Chapter 61 The Shape of Love
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
That day, more than ten years after their relationship had shifted, her husband Shūichi sought her attention in a way she hadn’t expected. She had grown complacent, thinking their dynamic was settled, but in hindsight, she should have considered the possibility of his renewed interest. After all, the nurses had commented that Haruto-kun’s massages had made her look younger and more radiant than before.
(Haruto-kun, I’m sorry.)
She felt a wave of guilt wash over her. She knew in her heart that her closeness with her daughter’s boyfriend was inappropriate, but seeing Haruto’s face made her feel a connection she couldn’t ignore. She thought it would be okay if they were just friends or confidants—she was a terrible mother for even considering more.
(Akane, please forgive me just a little more.)
But now, she had to think about how to navigate her husband’s renewed advances. After that night, he kept inviting her to spend time together. Each time she refused, but fearing Akane upstairs might notice, she couldn’t resist strongly and was eventually drawn into conversations she’d rather avoid.
(Compared to Haruto-kun, it doesn’t feel the same at all…)
Maybe it was because she was comparing him to Haruto, but she still felt something missing. Yui, unaware of her husband’s deeper emotions, tried not to show her inner turmoil.
Click-clack.
Lost in thought, she realized her husband had come home. It was almost midnight, so it should be fine tonight.
”Welcome home. Did you eat dinner?”
”I ate out.”
”I see. Then I’ll go to bed first.”
As she stood up from the sofa to say this, her husband reached out to stop her. She resisted, but physically, she was no match for him.
”No! Stop!”
Clattering sounds.
Somehow prepared, her arms were pulled behind her back and restrained gently. This was bad! She hesitated whether to shout, but she couldn’t let Akane upstairs notice.
”Dear! Even as a married couple, there are boundaries we should respect!”
”You always resist, but aren’t you really feeling something inside?”
”That’s not true! Let me go quickly!!”
Ignoring her pleas, Shūichi tried to comfort her, but she knew better than anyone how her emotions were tangled. She twisted her body to fight back, but…
Snap.
”Look, you’re feeling something, right?”
”That’s not true!”
Yui noticed her own reactions. Her body, accustomed to Haruto’s kindness, was sensitive to any touch. If Haruto were here, she’d feel at ease just from his presence. Now, Yui felt torn between her emotions and her responsibilities.
Sighing.
”Hmm… uh… uhmm… uh.”
Shūichi wrapped his arms around Yui, trying to comfort her, but she felt trapped. She tried to hold back her tears.
(No, no! Don’t feel it if it’s not Haruto!)
”Hey, there’s a voice.” (Good, good, hold on more!)
It was a real emotional struggle, not a performance. Shūichi, whose frustration reached its peak, took actions he wouldn’t normally do.
Smack!
”Huuuu!!”
Thud!
Yui was startled, and tears welled up in her eyes. She tried to hold back her voice. Shūichi, realizing his mistake, stopped immediately.
”Ahhh!”
She took a deep breath, trying to regain her composure. Still, she tried to hold back her tears. Shūichi couldn’t help but feel remorse.
Shūichi slowly stepped back. Then—
Deep sigh.
(Uh… Sorry, Haruto.)
(Yui, you’re doing your best.)
Listening to the silence resonating in the room, each person thought with their heart.
