Four guards were bothering me, and the other customers looked annoyed. I thought, “Should I just deal with them myself?” Just then, the shop door opened, and two more guards, dressed like the first four, came in. Ugh, reinforcements arrived first. I wondered if I could handle six of them. As I thought about it, I noticed the face of the guard who grabbed my hand earlier changed color when he saw the newcomers.
”What are you doing?” The taller of the two newcomers asked the first four guards.
”Um… Major. It’s just that… This girl seemed busy, so I thought I’d help carry the food…”
What a weak excuse. But I see… if he’s a major, then he’s their boss.
”I see. In that case, go ahead and talk to the locals. Hey, shopkeeper, give these four something to do.”
The shop owner looked surprised but quickly handed each of the four guards a dish to carry. Things started moving again.
Seeing this, the two newcomers sighed in relief and sat down. I quickly thanked them.
”Um… Thank you very much.”
”Are you hurt? Sorry about that. Everyone’s been on a long mission, so they’re a bit stressed. Please forgive them for me.”
”No, no, it’s nothing… By the way, Major, what would you like to order?”
”Ah, I’ll have the same as her… Just kidding. I’ll take wine and spicy bean soup.”
I was a bit surprised, but this Major might be my type. Not as much as the Emperor, but he’s tall and a bit muscular… I tried to talk to his more, but he was busy discussing work with his companion. Except for taking orders, there was no chance to approach him so he ended up leaving just like that.
”Ah, that Major. I wonder if he’ll come again… If I can get info from him, it would be really useful.”
Walking back from the shop to Ms. Norca’s house through the forest at night, I was thinking about these things when I felt something unpleasant approaching from behind.
”What is it, you guys?”
When I turned around, the same four guards were there. Honestly, I thought they’d gone home after the Major left… It’s shameful to ambush an innocent girl.
”Shut up. Don’t make a sound. We were interrupted earlier, but here, no one’s watching, right? Don’t underestimate us, and be prepared.”
”Even if you ask, I won’t underestimate you. But is this okay? If the Major finds out…”
”As long as he doesn’t find out, it’s fine. Anyway, you’re probably a shady runaway, right? Even if you’re found in a ditch tomorrow, no one will care.”
Ah, these guys are truly hopeless. Maybe I should force them down with my strength and make them submit. But I’ll act a little dramatic and pretend to be a girl.
”Stop it. What are you saying? Don’t say you’ll kill me over this. You guys just want to have fun with me, right?”
”Yeah, well… but after the fun, you’ll have to keep quiet, huh?”
These guys are hopeless. Truly scum. No room for mercy anymore.
”Then, just let me do this!!”
I dodged the man rushing at me and, as he passed by, punched him in the stomach.
”Ugh!!”
Hmph. Using my fist like this… I haven’t even trained properly. With this level of fighting, the Imperial Guards… the Emperor, I can only sympathize with their state of mind.
”Come on, next!!”
I noticed the remaining three were starting to get scared after seeing what I did.
”If you don’t come, I’ll come to you. I’ll toss all of you into the ditch, but you can swim, right?”
Suddenly, I heard applause behind me. What’s that? When I turned around, the Major from earlier was standing there. Huh, huh!? Could it be that he’s worried about me and came to help?
