Giuliana stood next to me, holding a stack of resumes for the 400 women in front of us.
Since we accept all races, women from different backgrounds were there. They were changing clothes for the practical test, which was the third exam.
Officially, we checked for slave marks on their bodies, but that was just an excuse. In reality, they were presenting themselves to me as part of the selection process.
”Hmm, Annabella mentioned she needs more staff for the Maid Corps. They’re short-handed.”
After the war, Annabella resumed her role as Head Maid and reorganized the Blackdagger family’s maids into the royal family’s service. I recalled her mentioning the challenges of managing everything with limited personnel.
”The Maid Corps, huh. But most applicants are eager to join the Hunting Group ‘Black Bullet.’ I can’t just reassign them to the Maid Corps.”
”Really? Annabella is looking for maids to assist each concubine. They’ll help with tasks like bathing and providing companionship at night. You know what ‘night care’ entails, right?”
”Assisting with evening duties, I see. If they’re assigned to each concubine, that’s a lot of maids. Kondrad will be upset. He’s already complaining about the shortage of female officers.”
”I’ll speak with Kondrad. Can you arrange the reassignment?”
”Of course, if it’s Annabella’s request, I’ll take care of it. Tell her to select the maids herself.”
”Thank you, Giuliana.”
I gestured for Giuliana to come closer and gently kissed her cheek. As the Training Instructor, she led the women’s development group, ‘Red Valkyrie,’ with great skill.
Initially, people teased her for being an ogre, but now she’s one of the most respected women in the Margrave South District.
Despite her impressive achievements, to me, she’s simply a dear friend.
”Just a kiss? I’ve been assisting you so much lately…”
I patted the sofa beside me, inviting Giuliana to sit. I offered her a token of my appreciation to hold.
”You appreciate this, don’t you, Giuliana?”
”It’s warm. Yes, I’m grateful…”
Giuliana’s expression softened as she held it. The formidable leader was now a woman touched by kindness.
”You know what to do, right?”
”Yes, give me a moment to prepare.”
With one hand still holding the token, she used the other to compose herself, getting ready.
Soon, a gentle atmosphere filled the room, and Giuliana’s expression became serene.
”Ahh, I’m ready.”
”I’m glad to hear that.”
As our conversation paused, Giuliana, who had been sitting beside me, moved closer. She gracefully accepted the token, embracing it fully.
”Wow, that’s quite a reaction. I wonder if the young ones on the other side of the room would be surprised to see Giuliana like this now.”
Giuliana’s response to my words was subtle yet noticeable.
The connection was just right, so I used the sofa’s comfort to express my appreciation. Giuliana’s posture relaxed in response.
”Ahh, aaah, ah, ah, Kent. That’s kind!”
I gently supported Giuliana, who was leaning back in contentment, and continued to show my gratitude.
Giuliana’s presence was reassuring, and her warm demeanor made every moment comfortable.
With each gesture of appreciation, her expression softened, and she seemed to relax more.
