Volume 3 Chapter 127-2 Falling Out Among Friends
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Don’t make a weak choice just because of that. Rushing into danger for duty and then getting wiped out is just foolish.”
”────but…”
”It’s okay. I’m here.”
Sarah gently rested her head on Kian’s shoulder.
”No matter what others say, I’m on your side alone.”
”Sarah…”
Kian’s expression crumpled, and he embraced his childhood friend.
Sarah, as if waiting, slid smoothly into his chest.
Kian gently patted her head and responded sincerely.
”I’m happy about your feelings, Sarah, but you’re not my only ally.”
”Stop saying that with a serious face.”
”If you’re trying to seduce me, it’s pointless, so stop it.”
”Huh!? I-I’m not trying to seduce you at all…?”
”Really? Lately, haven’t you been trying to get close to me every chance you get?”
”I haven’t… Sorry. I lied.”
Sarah let out a small sigh, turned to face Kian with a serious expression, and opened her mouth.
”By the way, why don’t you marry me?”
”That’s sudden.”
”Think about it—we work well together, and our strengths balance each other out. Even physically, we’re a good match, right?”
Sarah’s hands gripped Kian’s arms as she splashed water, making a loud noise.
”I want to enjoy your cooking every day. Being close, sharing moments—it’d be nice, don’t you think?”
”That’s not a topic to discuss when we’re talking about whether to abandon Serena or not.”
When Kian said this, somewhat perplexed, Sarah slightly moved away from him and patted her cheek.
”Y-yeah, that’s right. I don’t know why I was so anxious. When I thought I might lose you if I made a mistake during this quest, I just couldn’t help it… Sorry.”
”No.”
He didn’t say that Ms. Priscilla did something similar and told him not to mind it.
In the end──.
Kian and Sarah later enjoyed a passionate moment and finished their bath time happily.
When they started, it seemed like they’d go until morning, but they stopped because Wing Cain showed signs of returning halfway through.
The one who returned was the individual who had gone to search for Rean.
Rean was safe.
Despite falling from a roof at least ten meters high, he returned without a single scratch.
* * *
Changing into the warrior monk armor delivered by Yelmar’s client, Rean greeted Kian with a nonchalant expression. When Wing Cain, circling several meters in the air, descended and landed on the stone wall of the old fortress, Rean let go of its strong talon-like feet and landed.
”Kian, are you safe?”
”That’s my line. You were pushed off by Jibril’s puppet, but you’re lucky to be safe.”
”Jibril…? Ah, well, I was just lucky.”
”You saved me back then. Thank you.”
”No need. In the end, I was pushed off myself.”
Rean said that, then jumped down from the stone wall and patted Kian’s shoulder as if celebrating their safety. He turned his gaze to Sarah, who was beside Kian, also celebrating their return.
”I’m glad Ms. Sarah is safe. Having a magician means there are more options available.”
”Mr. Rean, do you have any injuries?”
Sarah approached him and checked his arms and legs.
However, Rean nonchalantly distanced himself from her with a casual motion and coldly said, “It’s fine. Don’t worry about me.”
Sarah’s keen eyes lingered on his black armor.
She squinted slightly but said nothing and backed off.
Rean glanced at the opened square box, the immobile golem, and the monk robes worn by Kian and the others, and seemed to sense something.
He turned to Kian and Sarah, alternating his gaze between them, and said,
”I want you to explain the situation. How large is the enemy, and what should we do from here on?”
”Understood.”
Sarah prepared 3 chairs and a table and started a fire.
Then, the 3 of them shared information while roasting dried meat and dried fish from Sarah’s backpack over the fire.
After they finished talking, Rean nodded once and stood up from his chair.
”I will immediately return to the ancient temple. Before the separate team that recovered Barghest’s research materials and the main force led by the warrior monk Linca join up, I will recover Ninini and Vest. And if possible, also Ms. Serena.”
”It’s dangerous. You shouldn’t go.”
Sarah said in a firm voice.
She was insisting on retreating to the Great Forest with a piercing tone.
”I understand the danger.”
”It’s not just any danger. If you go, you will be killed.”
”The puppet of the Twelve Divine Generals, Jibril, was defeated by Kian, right? In that case, it should be manageable. I feel like I can win against the warrior monk Linca. If I attack steadily without using the magic sword, eventually, an attack will hit her, and I should be able to defeat her.”
”Ms. Linca is not that easy of an opponent. Anyone who underestimated her like that has been killed by her without exception. ‘Penetration’ is not her only skill. She is an excellent warrior monk and also a magician. I don’t even know how many Secret Techniques she has hidden.”
”It’s fine. My armor is specially made. In fact, she couldn’t do anything to me.”
That might be an exaggeration, but from Rean’s perspective, that seemed to be the case.
Rean looked toward Kian and continued.
”It was fine with Kian. I can defeat her.”
”That’s probably underestimating Kian too much…”
”However, there’s no doubt that our forces have significantly increased by coming here, Sarah.”
Kian said that and looked at the two.
He continued speaking.
”While Sarah holds down Linca, Rean and I will handle the other warrior monks like Shura. If Jibril’s reserve forces haven’t joined yet, we should be able to suppress them all at once.”
”Then, with the firepower of my magic sword and Kian’s magic sword, we can definitely do it. Is Linca the only one who can deflect the magic sword?”
”Yeah, well, probably. I think what Ms. Linca used is a ‘Wall’ type Secret Technique called ‘Mirror Moon’. I’m not very familiar with it myself, but I’ve heard it’s quite difficult to master. It’s not something an average warrior monk would casually use.”
”In that case, there’s no problem. Or, is Ms. Sarah not confident she can win in a one-on-one fight against Linca?”
”I still have many parts I’m inexperienced in. I can’t say for sure whether I’ll win. But if told to do it, I would do what I can.”
”Is that so? Linca seemed to show quite a distressed expression when ‘Penetration’ didn’t work on you.”
When Kian spoke up, Sarah shook her head.
”That’s not true. But, well, if told to do it, I will. Just like Kian, I’ll stab her stomach three times, then slit her throat and kill her.”
”It’s decided. Kian, Ms. Sarah. Let’s go. Follow me.”
”──Wait a minute.”
Sarah grabbed his waist armor and pulled him to sit down on the chair.
”Do you both understand what you’re about to do? We’re going to fight more than 20 enemies with just the three of us. And if we take too long, powerful reinforcements might appear. We’ve just barely escaped death, and now you’re willingly jumping back into the flames. That’s something only a fool would do.”
