Volume 3 Chapter 127-4 Falling Out Among Friends

”Tsk…”
”Rean, you act too quickly. It wasn’t right to push your opinion by provoking Sarah. Try to have conversations without hurting others.”
”…”
”Please speak respectfully. You’re acting like children who don’t understand boundaries.”
Kian looked at both of them, then pointed to opposite ends of the courtyard.
”Both of you, calm down. Whether you’re helping or returning to the Great Forest, you can’t face enemies properly in this state.”
Sarah quietly moved to the back corner of the courtyard.
Rean moved to the front.
Kian sighed softly, then decided to prepare a meal with the ingredients he had. He knew he wouldn’t last until the end without eating something before going to save Serena and the others.
After a while, Rean and Sarah returned to the fire pit from their corners.
”Ms. Sarah, I’m sorry.”
”No. I was also immature. I won’t tell anyone about your situation, so don’t worry.”
”I agree. I think we should retreat too.”
”Eh, why all of a sudden, Rean?”
When Kian asked, Sarah answered for Rean.
”Anyway, you offered Ms. Ninini soul, right?”
”────”
(Is this a joke?)
Kian’s eyes widened at Rean, who looked down silently.
He barely kept himself from reacting aloud.
’Is this guy really heartless…’
’Glasses’ muttered, her voice showing amazement and a hint of fear.
Kian agreed with her.
”Falling from that height, there’s no way you’re safe. Ms. Linca must have hit you directly with her magic sword before that.”
”Yeah, the soul consumption is increasing more and more.”
Rean muttered in frustration.
”I thought it would be okay for a while after hunting so many Bloodsucking Kind monsters…”
”So, you exhausted yourself to save me, Rean.”
”Please don’t misunderstand, Kian. Whether I helped or not, I was using a magic sword somewhere, and my armor was damaged. The only difference was timing—early or late.”
”Do you think it’s okay to sacrifice your comrades’ souls so easily?”
”Of course it’s wrong. But──if I can hunt big souls, I can buy those girls back. I’ve done it once before.”
Rean’s private conversations were spilling out, but he didn’t seem to care anymore.
”There’s a chance to repay. I plan to make a big move soon. With that, Lyr and Ninini can be bought back. If that happens, everything will return to normal.”
”So, you didn’t plan to abandon Ninini…?”
”She wouldn’t be killed if I thought she were corpses, right? I just thought of recovering her later.”
”That’s terrible, treating comrades like objects…”
Kian frowned.
”Yes, do your best. And I’ll support you quietly. By the way, I still think we should help Ms. Serena and the others.”
”Why did you change your mind again, Sarah?”
When Kian asked, Sarah replied with a bored expression.
”It’s not a change of heart. I remembered something.”
”……?”
”Kian, I was Azrael’s justice apostle. Well, I used to be. When I was little, I said I wanted to become a warrior monk to help those in trouble, remember?”
”Oh.”
Rean nodded, glancing sideways with a satisfied expression.
Sarah often said this when she saw Azrael’s warrior monks helping patients and orphans.
”Earlier, I thought about it for a long time. Now, I wonder if I’m truly the warrior monk I should be. No, since I’m no longer bound by anything, now is the time to do good and justice.”
”You think too much.”
”It’s simple, Kian. I’m different from that trash over there. If I abandon Ms. Serena, no matter the reason, it’s the same thing. Azrael’s teachings still live within me. I’m no longer a warrior monk, but as Sarah, I’ll help my comrade Ms. Serena.”
Rean sneered.
”What would a hypocrite say…”
”Right. It might be hypocritical. But I have the power to help Ms. Serena. Unlike when I was a helpless child. I’ll choose the option that leaves no room for regret. Of course, I’ll help Ms. Ninini too.”
”Heh…”
Rean smirked cynically.
”Ninini? She’ll be gone from this world soon enough.”
”Rean, do you truly plan to reclaim your comrades?”
”……Sorry. That was inappropriate. I take her back. I guess I’m just tired.”
”Ms. Ninini hasn’t been pawned yet, has she? At least retrieve her body. If she returns, she’ll need a vessel.”
”Ah, right…”
Rean looked into the distance.
What kind of deal did he make with the Black Onyx spirit, and what was the collateral? Now wasn’t the time to ask. They needed to decide whether to rescue Serena and the others immediately.
”I agree with helping Serena. I brought her here. I can’t abandon her. Since I brought her, I’ll take her back.”
”Are both of you going, Kian, Ms. Sarah? Then I’ll go too. I want to retrieve Vest and Ninini.”
”The three of us finally agreed. Congratulations on forming your dream team.”
Sarah joked casually.
Rean asked, “Shall we shake hands?” but Sarah replied, “I won’t if you force it.” While a handshake wouldn’t steal a soul, considering Rean’s actions, Sarah couldn’t criticize him.
Kian suddenly looked up, sensing a Wing Cain approaching from afar.
”Is something wrong, Kian?”
”A Wing Cain is coming. This is…”
Kian squinted.
He commanded the large bat circling above the fortress to come inside the barrier.
The bat held a magic sword in its leg.
”What is that sword?”
As Rean tilted his head, Sarah’s eyes widened in recognition. “No way,” she said. Kian told them he would turn around.
”It’s the ‘Misty Magic Sword’ I asked Ms. Priscilla for. With this, I can better fight Linca.”
”What did you offer in return? Not your soul, I hope?”
”No. It’s needed to clear the quest, so Ms. Priscilla provided it free of charge.”
Kian took the magic sword from the Wing Cain.
”From now on, I’ll reclaim Serena and the others. Rean, support us without using too much power. Linca will be handled by me or Sarah. The remaining Shura should deal with those not fighting Linca. Agreed?”
Sarah and Rean nodded.
Kian mounted the Windsong Blade on his back holder.
”Let’s go. We’ll settle everything before dawn.”
