Rising-Monk v3c128

Volume 3 Chapter 128 Quest: The Nameless Asura I

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The ancient temple is a massive structure, covering one square kilometer, carved into the mountain’s slope.

The official way to enter the courtyard is through the front corridor, but you can also reach the roofs of the buildings surrounding the hall by climbing down the mountain slope from the back.

Kian, Sarah, and Rean, each holding onto their Wing Cain, looked at the huge entrance of the ancient temple ahead. It was about 700 meters away.

The area was still dark, with stars twinkling in the sky. Dawn was still some time away.

 ”────”

 ”……””────”

Kian looked back and signaled to Sarah and Rean, who were hanging onto their Wing Cain’s legs. They nodded. Sarah flew her Wing Cain to the right side of the temple, while Rean took a wide detour around the left side.

Once they landed, the Wing Cains would no longer follow their commands.

From this point on, success or death were their only options.

However, these were Sarah and Rean.

Their resolve was firm, and there was no trace of fear in them.

”Kian will attack from the front. I’ll assault the temple from the right side of the mountain slope.”

Before taking off from the old fortress, Sarah, now controlling two more Wing Cains, recalled the plan.

”Mr. Rean will take a wide detour from the left and appear on the mountain ridge behind the temple. The transport dragonflies are likely stopped there.”

She pointed to the detailed map of the temple drawn on the ground with the tip of her sheathed shamshir and continued.

”Our main goal is to rescue all the hostages, but first, we need to destroy the enemy’s transport dragonflies. If we take out the dragonflies, Ms. Linca and the others will be trapped here unless they get reinforcements.”

Sarah drew an arrow at the front of the temple.

”Kian is the decoy. You’ll appear at the front to draw the warrior monks’ attention. If you can weaken the enemy by breaking through, that’s great, but you shouldn’t push yourself too hard. Especially if Ms. Linca shows up, you must not fight her, even with the magic sword. Using the Wing Cain to escape into the sky should work, since their anti-air abilities are weaker than the ‘Storm Herd.’ And then──”

She drew an arrow from the mountainside to the right wing of the temple.

”While Kian distracts them at the front, I’ll attack from the side. I’ll kill everyone I meet. If I encounter Ms. Linca, I’ll kill her too. Once the enemy is defeated, we’ll calmly free the hostages and retreat.”

”Meanwhile, I’ll take down all the dragonflies. Monster hunting is my specialty. Leave it to me.”

”The dragonflies have multiple hearts and brains, so they can move freely. Don’t think their face is the weak point. Use the magic sword to drain their life.”

 ”Understood.”

(Rean will go around the mountain from the left and take down the dragonflies. Sarah will ambush from the right and destroy the warrior monks. And I’m the decoy, which is arguably the most dangerous role.)

Holding onto his Wing Cain, he looked down at the temple’s entrance below.

They’ll lower their altitude from here.

The enemy has probably already noticed his presence.

However, with the Windsong Blade, all ranged attacks will be ineffective.

Kian has equipped his ‘glasses’ to track the enemy’s position accurately, even in the dark.

(‘Glasses’, lend me your strength. Will you fight alongside me?)

’Of course. You are not alone. I’m here. Together, there’s no enemy we can’t defeat.’

 (You’re right.)

 He checked his equipment:

The black monastic robe used by Azrael’s warrior monks for missions.

The Windsong Blade secured on my back.

And──as a trump card against Linca, the ‘Mist Magic Sword’ wrapped in cloth and strapped to his left hip belt.

The cloth is wrapped in a way that allows him to draw the sword in almost one motion, thanks to his dexterity. Sarah told him to run if he meets Linca, but he has no intention of doing so.

(I want to fight a strong enemy.)

Just as he envied Oswald and Sarah’s swords.

Kian felt jealousy toward Linca’s well-honed warrior monk skills.

Having been beaten to the brink of death multiple times, he developed a systematic understanding of her martial arts. True to her serious nature, Linca had diligently trained her fists up to today. While honing her sword skills as a warrior monk, she simultaneously refined her physical techniques to a master level, showing her talent for acquiring skills.

Her innate ability to release ki was strong.

The absolute invincible ‘Penetration’ that other warrior monks couldn’t use.

 Beastmen-level sensing and tracking abilities.

 Natural athleticism.

A large number of tachyonian cells due to her lineage from a family that exorcises Eastern demons.

These were all things the weak Kian could never have.

That’s why he wanted to defile, degrade, humiliate, and trample her to pieces──.

With dark emotions boiling in his chest, he silently dropped from the Wing Cain.

His black monk’s robe fluttered, turning into mist at the moment of impact, as he slid up the mountainside.

He reached the limit of Mist Form mid-way and re-materialized.

By then, he had already reached the front of the temple’s entrance.

 ”────”

Now, he pushed up the bridge of his ‘glasses’ and looked up at the three shadows standing at the entrance.

 ”Welcome, Kian Vahid.”

 It wasn’t Shura.

However, they were the warrior monks who had fought him before.

They had already removed their oni masks.

The three warrior monks lined up straight at the entrance and spoke in unison.

”Sir Jibril foresaw that you would return.”

”Your important companion is captured in the Hall.”

”If you want to retrieve them, you must first defeat us and enter.”

 They planned to capture Kian.

So, the goal is to lure Kian with words and drag him into a position where he cannot retreat.

Probably, once they enter the temple’s corridor, it will be a death zone.

According to the plan presented to Sarah, as long as they attract the warrior monks at the entrance, there’s no need to advance further.

 (However)──

 ”────”

Silence as he drew the Windsong Blade from his back.

Holding the sword out to the side, the magic sword quietly sang a song as it weathered the cold wind blowing down the mountain slope.

 ”────” “Are you coming?” “……”

The warrior monks each drew their shamshirs and prepared their stances.

Kian, feeling the thrill of combat starting, curled his lips and deployed the application technique ‘domain’ of ‘Leap’.

Using a large amount of magic power to rewrite the physical laws around him, Kian appeared above the heads of the three warrior monks in a single Leap.

* * *

Several sparks bloomed chaotically in the corridor.

Surrounded by the three warrior monks, Kian maintained a perfect distance by releasing wind from the Windsong Blade or freezing the ground and enemies’ clothing with ice effects, fighting while skillfully adjusting his range.

 ”Ugh…”

The Windsong Blade roared, and the body of the warrior monk charging straight at him recoiled dramatically.

A shamshir pierced in from the side to help his comrade, but Kian slipped through the attack in Mist Form, then swiftly cut off the first monk’s head. He spun right on the spot, moving behind the man whose body was still moving, and prepared to strike.

Meanwhile, another warrior monk had already taken position behind Kian, but anticipating this, Kian quickly reversed the Windsong Blade, holding it in a reverse grip, and cut the warrior monk’s abdomen while facing backward.

The Windsong Blade amplified the power of its piercing attack, blowing apart the man’s abdomen where it stabbed. With major organs damaged, he dropped his sword without striking Kian’s head and slowly fell backward.

 ”I’m glad I could fight you…!”

The last one, like a magic bird dancing in the night sky, threw something at Kian while smiling.

The Windsong Blade neutralized the attack.

A wind barrier appeared around Kian, defying physics as the dark object clattered to the ground at his feet.

 ”You were our hope…! That’s why I can’t forgive you…!”

 ”…….”
