Rising-Monk v3c130-4

Volume 3 Chapter 130-4 Quest: Nameless Asura III

 ”Wait, Barghest!”

 ”──Yelmar!”

Kian spun around in surprise as a large man who’d jumped from behind approached him.

The young Wolfman, Yelmar, turned his rough face toward them and said, “Sorry, I’m late.”

The armed Wolfmen brushed past Kian and Sarah, rushing toward the dragonfly.

Among them was a female warrior monk from the black panther tribe, dressed in black robes.

 ”Ms. Katyusha!”

”Hee~~y, Sir Kian! Thanks for back then~!”

The female warrior monk waved casually while carrying a scimitar on her shoulder.

Beside her, a dark elf magician appeared out of nowhere.

”Surround them! Don’t let them escape!”

 ”Demete!”

 ”────”

The dark elf magician, with a gloomy expression, glanced briefly at Kian and Sarah but said nothing. He walked toward the dragonfly, which was already flying into the sky.

His pace was so slow it made Kian wonder if he was even serious about chasing them.

 ”This is…”

Sarah, who’d been scanning the reinforcements beside Kian, narrowed her eyes.

The reinforcements weren’t just Wolfmen—there were also monks in robes, clearly trained at Azrael’s monastery. They moved like shadows, leaping onto rooftops.

”Are Sven and the others gone?”

 Yelmar asked.

The dragonfly, already carrying Barghest and the others, had soared high into the air. There was no way they could catch up now.

Kian hesitated, wondering if he should use Windsong Blade, but stopped just before acting. He noticed two shadows watching from the dragonfly’s body.

 The enemies were unpredictable.

Just like Rean had done to Linca, firing a magic sword without thinking was dangerous.

Especially since the Azraelian woman had activated her ‘domain.’

Her energy, focus, and movements marked her as a master.

If the Secret Technique ‘Mirror Moon’ were reflected, not only Kian but Yelmar and Sarah could be caught in it too. Even if someone had a magic-armor like ‘Water Moon (Mizuki)’ from the ‘glasses’ blood technique, the result would be the same.

The effects of the Wolfmen woman’s small sword and the Azraelian woman’s hole-riddled magic sword remained a mystery.

”Oh, I let them escape, huh~”

”That’s because you didn’t seriously chase them, right? Useless.”

”I don’t want to hear that from you, Demete. If you’d paid the ransom for Sir Abbas, I might’ve been more serious~”

 ”Tch…”

The black panther warrior monk, Katyusha, and the dark elf magician, Demete, slowly returned toward them.

Behind them, Wolfmen warriors and some monks descended from the roofs, searching below for survivors.

”Yelmar, I’ve protected Colinna and Serena.”

 Several female Wolfmen approached.

They carried falchions at their waists and wore light armor typical of Adventurers. One larger Wolfman carried Serena, while a worn-out Colinna followed behind.

 ”Oh, nice. Thanks, you guys.”

”Thank you for protecting Ms. Serena.”

 ”Thank you.”

Kian, following Sarah’s lead, bowed his head lightly.

Lady Colinna staggered over to Sarah, grabbed her arm, and clung to her.

 ”Glen has been kidnapped!”

 Her face was pale.

”Severed from the Great Tree of Black Onyx and carried off. I… I can’t do anything about it.”

”It’s fine. The gate to another dimension is still open.”

Demete spoke in a cold, mechanical tone.

”There was probably someone among Barghest’s sacrifices—a backup with magic power like Glen’s. Likely the high elf Vestacia mentioned in the report.”

 ”Mentioned in the report?”

 Kian raised an eyebrow.

He alternated his gaze between the dark elf and the young Wolfman.

”Were your client this dark elf? I thought it was someone else, since you didn’t even know Demete’s name.”

”No, I didn’t know his name until recently. Besides, our client isn’t that gloomy magician over there.”

 ”Then who…?”

 It seemed impossible.

Kian felt a stir in his blood.

Demete twitched his elven ears and teleported from the roof to the courtyard.

 Yelmar slapped Kian’s back.

”Just in time. Let’s fulfill our promise. You were supposed to meet my client and hear them out.”

 ”────”

”Lord Kian, you know the effect of the magic scroll we promised, right?”

 ”Of course.”

Kian’s heart pounded against his ribs.

 Was this fate?

 A prank from Azrael?

His right hand trembled with anger, but he quickly calmed himself.

Kian nodded to Yelmar and walked to the roof’s edge, sheathing his two magic swords.

 Sarah, looking worried, followed.

They jumped off the roof into the courtyard.

Just then, Kian sensed people approaching from the temple’s entrance corridor.

The screeching sound of a wheelchair echoed strangely, tearing at Kian’s heart.

 ”──Ah, my worst failure.”

 ”────”

 Kian turned.

Sarah already faced the corridor, where an Azrael warrior monk saluted briefly.

Kian suppressed his anger and faced the old man in the wheelchair emerging from the shadows.

 Sharp eyes like a hawk’s.

 A thin, hooked nose.

 A crooked, nervous mouth.

 ”――――.”

Had his hair grayed more since last time?

Kian pressed down his trembling hand and looked down at the old man. In contrast, the old man gazed up at Kian, his black eyes burning with ambition.

”Long time no see, Exile Kian.”

 Kian didn’t bow like Sarah.

He simply looked down, his mind empty.

He forced words from his tight lips, his Azrael language mixed with a western dialect.

”Long time no see, Umar Vahid.”
