Volume 3 Chapter 131 Unexpected Reunion
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Cold wind blew through the old temple’s courtyard.
Kian and Umar stood facing each other. Around them, Sarah, Demete, Yelmar, and Katyusha lined up. Sarah looked worried, fearing Kian might attack Umar. Yelmar frowned at the tense mood between the two.
”Stand back, Demeter.”
Umar, who had just defeated a dark elf magician, slowly stood up. He pushed himself up using his wheelchair’s handles.
He was still tall, but shorter than Kian, who had been enhanced by vampire powers.
A thin tube was connected to Umar’s arm. At the end of the tube was a stand holding a liquid. The servant carefully placed the container on the stand, making sure it didn’t fall.
”First, I’ll tell you what I want. Use your connections to arrange a meeting with Margrave Izerland. I need to share important info with her. Some of it’s about Izerland’s future. If she doesn’t hear this, I’m sure Izerland will be destroyed in six months.”
”Meet Princess Maribel? Since you can walk, why not go see her yourself?”
”Do you think Azraelian experts like us will be allowed through the gate? They’ll stop us outside the fortress.”
Normally, that’s true, but Izerland’s security is weak now. Getting through the gate isn’t impossible.
But if they try to reach the admin office, Gao and the guards might catch them and kick them out.
”Plus, if you try to meet the Margrave without help, you might get captured and sent back home. But if you introduce us, as a hero of Izerland, she’ll likely not hand us over to Azrael.”
”I see. But why should I help you, Lord Umar? You’re──”
”Hey, wait a second.”
Yelmar, looking confused, interrupted Kian and Umar’s talk. He frowned at Umar.
”You start with that? Don’t you have something else to say? Lord Kian, you’re so calm, but that’s your dad, right? Shouldn’t you be happy to see each other? I thought you’d have a party to celebrate.”
”Y-yes, Lord Umar.”
”No problem. My talk with Kian is fine this way.”
”I agree. Yelmar, if you want to drink, go ahead.”
Yelmar muttered, “No way…”
He looked around and saw the warrior monks, Katyusha, and Demete weren’t reacting. He frowned, thinking, “Am I wrong?”
”Um, Sir Umar.”
Just as things got tense, Sarah spoke softly, trying not to upset Umar. She touched Kian’s arm to calm him.
”I heard you were imprisoned in Vahid’s palace. How did you escape?”
”I have many allies.”
”──You must be joking.”
Kian spoke coldly, but Umar kept talking.
”‘The Death Customer List.’ Lady Sarah, you know about it.”
”────. I see.”
”What’s the Death Customer List?”
Yelmar tilted his head. Katyusha, who had been watching, spoke up.
”The Vahid family got famous by making and selling poisons and bombs. About 30 years ago, warrior monks relied on swords, but poisons and bombs are powerful. You don’t need to train assassins; just brainwash people and use them to poison or blow up important figures.”
”The ‘Death Customer List’ is a record of Sir Umar’s clients. It includes signed contracts.”
Demete continued calmly.
”Details are hidden, but most women in Umar’s harem have used poison or aphrodisiacs. When powerful people disappear, the Vahid family is usually involved.”
”Hmm. So, my clients were the founders of poisons and bombs?”
”I’m not the founder. Research started after the Empire of Night fell. I just collected, improved, and organized it.”
Sarah turned to Yelmar.
”The new poison and bomb department at Azrael’s monastery was Sir Umar’s idea. Though he didn’t want his son studying bombs.”
”I can’t risk my lab or harem getting blown up.”
”Haha, I don’t have the guts for that.”
Kian laughed dryly, debating whether to kill the man in front of him.
But he had promised to listen via a magic scroll, and Umar mentioned Izerland’s destruction.
The info this man had was too important to ignore.
Killing him out of emotion is always an option, but first, he should check Maribel’s plans.
(And…)
Kian looked at Umar’s weak face.
Demete steps forward, his skin crawling with shivers, but Umar holds his back with his hand.
(Killing him now would be too easy. I want to make him regret his choices, watch him suffer, and then carve him up slowly.)
Just killing him would be no different from a random murder.
Even before gaining his current power, he could’ve killed him with bombs.
But Kian didn’t act because that wouldn’t be real revenge.
Fifteen years ago, Kian lost his status and honor, not his life. So, he must take Umar’s status and honor to complete his revenge.
The problem is Umar has fallen further than expected, but if Jibril is also killed, it’s possible.
Umar and Jibril are enemies.
There’s no reason not to let them fight.
(If I get bored, I’ll kill both him and Demete. Actually, I could kill Demete right now.)
”So, you used the ‘Death Customer List’ for funds?”
While Kian struggled with his anger, Sarah asked.
Umar shook his head.
”Some contracts were traded for funds, but most weren’t. My Azrael funds were frozen, but I have hidden assets in Western countries like Franz and Shin. For example, the Tigris mine in Châtillon. It’s run by the Boco Halam brothers and their wives, but I own a third of the voting rights.”
”Eh, is that so!?”
”I bought those rights under a different name. Their father was bad at making money, and so are his sons. I don’t trust their skills.”
Kian raised an eyebrow.
”So, that’s why the Tigris mine quickly supported me.”
”Yes. I needed to persuade some of Boco’s side since I didn’t have a majority.”
”────”
He was surprised Umar’s reach extended to him without him noticing.
But despite his schemes, he was betrayed by Jibril and imprisoned. This man is too naive. With only confidants like Demete, his power is weak.
”Lady Sarah, I thought you were dead. In Azrael, they said you were defeated by the Knights of the Sun.”
”I was saved by luck and Kian.”
”My condolences about your father and house. If you want to serve Azrael’s justice, will you work for me?”
Sarah shook her head.
”Don’t you want to take revenge on Jibril? Then, will you help me gather the scattered family?”
”I’m afraid Sir Umar can’t do that right now. And I don’t think you owe Nakash family that much either.”
”I do owe them. Lord Shajar and I were friends.”
”You must be joking. My father sent me as a fiancée to steal the Insect Master’s skills. Since you cut ties with Kian, doesn’t that mean you decided the Nakash family was no longer useful fifteen years ago? I don’t think it was a situation where friendship could grow.”
”As ‘Azrael’s Death Sword User’, don’t you want to punish Jibril? If you truly are Azrael’s apostle of justice—”
”I’m no longer ‘Azrael’s Death Sword User’. I’m just Sarah.”
Sarah said this quietly and leaned against Kian’s arm.
”Now… I just want to live quietly, making up for my past sins. Of course, I’ll take care of the Nakash family eventually.”
”It’s sad for a Death Sword User… But if you’ve decided, I won’t force it.”
Umar closed his eyes, looking disappointed.
He seemed so still that Kian reluctantly spoke up.
”We’re getting off track. Sir Umar, are you asking me to meet Princess Maribel?”
