Chapter 121 Harue’s Part II
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Three Years Later
Soft music played in the store.
A clean smell filled the air, making people want to take a deep breath.
Inside the store, Haruto’s mother, Harue, was giving a massage to a regular customer.
At first, she didn’t know if she could keep doing this job. But she worked hard, and in time, she became a certified aromatherapist, which had been her goal.
”Like always, your massage feels so good, Ichijou-san.”
”Thank you! I’m really happy to hear that.”
”My skin hasn’t been acting up much lately. Do you think it would help more if I came here more often?”
Harue thought back to a time, three years ago, when she followed the lead of another worker.
A customer had asked something like that before.
Of course it will! she had wanted to say back then.
”It might help with rough skin and keep it from getting worse, but we can’t treat skin problems with beauty care.”
That’s what she had said instead.
”I see. But if it might help, maybe I should come more.”
Skin problems often depend on a person’s body and skin type.
Some people may never fully heal.
But Harue’s skin had gotten better after Haruto massaged her, and she hadn’t worried about her skin since.
So, for a long time, she had believed the massage alone was enough.
It wasn’t until she started massaging people herself that she saw the truth.
Haruto’s massage was different.
”Thank you again. We hope to see you soon.”
(If it were Haru-kun, he could probably fix this lady’s skin problems right away…)
As Harue took a break, her last massage finished, the manager came over.
”Nice work today, Ichijou-san.”
”You too.”
”Hey, since you have your license now, how about going full-time?”
Harue had heard about the job offer system during her first interview.
She told them she didn’t want to be a full-time worker because she planned to quit when Haruto opened his own shop.
But the manager still wanted to keep good workers on staff.
※This system lets part-time or contract workers become full-time workers.
”I’m sorry. I’m not planning to become a full-time worker.”
”I only said that because I thought it made sense. You already work the same hours as full-time staff anyway.”
※Some jobs treat you like a full-time worker if you work the same hours, even if your job title is different.
She had never told them her plan to quit later…
She had started this job to make good use of her free time.
But now, she was working full-time anyway.
So, the manager’s idea wasn’t strange at all.
”…Actually, I made a promise to my son. We said we’d open a shop together.”
”Oh, really? That’s such a nice story! If I remember right… weren’t he a college student?”
”Yes. He’s in his fifth year now.”
”Huh!? Five years? So, he’s in med school? Does he work at a hospital?”
Aromatherapists who work in hospitals are called medical aromatherapists.
They study at special schools approved by the Japan Aromatherapy Integrative Medicine Association.
If Harue were one of them, she wouldn’t have time to work here.
”No, my son doesn’t want to run a hospital. He wants to run a massage shop.”
”…That’s a very high-level skill. Seems like a waste…”
You can’t do medical work like a dentist without a license.
But you can still do things nurses or physical therapists do.
Even so, many people think being a doctor is the best path.
But after hearing that Harue and her son wanted to open a shop together, the manager gave up on making her go full-time.
Instead, she truly supported her dream.
”That’s a great goal. I’ll cheer you on too!”
”Thank you very much!”
Their talk ended, and so did the work day.
Just as Harue stepped outside to go home, her phone rang.
”Huh? A call from Akane-chan? That’s rare.”
’Hello? What’s up? …Eh…?’
