Chapter 123 Regret Of On-Site Training
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Today’s training is in pediatrics.
Haruto looks at the waiting room in the children’s department and thinks.
(There are only little kids here…)
Pediatricians are doctors who take care of children from birth to age eighteen.
In other words, they treat sicknesses from babies to teens.
But many people think it’s only for little kids.
In real life, like what Haruto is seeing now, most of the patients are very young.
So, students in middle school or high school might feel shy about coming.
(There are many women doctors here… I’d go to a place like that too…)
Haruto’s thoughts start drifting into silly ideas again.
But it’s true—there are many female doctors in pediatrics.
People often think that the most female doctors are in obstetrics and gynecology.
But actually, the most are in dermatology.
Then anesthesiology, then eye care, after that OB-GYN, and then pediatrics.
As Haruto is thinking about all this, he’s taken to the children’s ward.
This is where kids with many kinds of illnesses stay in the hospital.
But the more he walks in, the worse Haruto looks.
The worry he’s carried since he first thought about becoming a doctor
is finally turning into something real.
(I thought I was ready… but this hurts…)
The children are fighting their sickness with all they have.
Just by touching them, Haruto has the power to take away their pain.
But if he really used that power here…
it would cause a big problem.
Most people would be happy to see someone healed.
But people don’t like things they can’t explain.
Some might not believe it was healing—they’d say it was a mistake or wrong test.
(What if I showed this power to everyone? What if I traveled the country and healed people?)
It wouldn’t just cause trouble.
There are sick people all over the world.
They would come from every place.
And very sick people can’t travel, so requests might come in non-stop.
Since very sick people can’t move, the number of requests could get too high.
If a powerful person, or someone close to one, got sick…
They would do anything to take Haruto for themselves.
But that’s not all.
Even if Haruto healed people one by one…
Some would be happy.
But what about the people he didn’t reach in time?
They would blame him.
They would say, “If only he had come sooner.”
Even if they knew deep down it wasn’t his fault…
(In the end, I have to hide this power… If that’s true…)
Then he doesn’t want it.
If having these memories and powers only brings pain,
then it’s better if he never had them.
(Why… why did I choose this power…)
At the time, Haruto thought about becoming a policeman.
But the god’s words made him change his mind.
(Why… why did I choose the modern world…)
If it were a world of magic and fantasy,
he could’ve helped people more easily than here…
Why?
How come?
Even though he knew thinking about this wouldn’t help,
Haruto couldn’t stop.
No matter how much he looked back, there was no answer.
Still, the daily training went on.
And slowly, Haruto’s heart began to break.
