Volume 4 Chapter 72-2 Cat Ear Tail And Ocean Schemes

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 ”What’s wrong?”

I asked. Of course, there was no reply. The fairy could not talk.

It flapped its little arms fast, trying to show something. Behind it, I saw the ship’s deck.

”Looks like it found something in the sea,” Lifia said softly. She peeked from the side.

If they called me, it meant this was urgent. I turned to Korukona. Her face was still red.

”Well then, Korukona, we’ll pick this up again tonight.”

 ”Huh… c-continue? Wait—there’s more? What… More than this?”

She looked so confused, I had to laugh. Her cat ears twitched and her tail moved side to side. It was cute, really.

We stepped through the door of the love hotel and returned to the deck.

There, many Brownies stood in rows, waiting.

 ”What’s going on?”

I asked again. The fairies pointed to the front of the ship.

 There, I saw land.

”That must be the pirate hideout,” Lifia said.

We had already arrived. Even without wind magic, it was not far away.

 Now, what should we do?

We already beat the pirates who caught Korukona. But that didn’t mean they were all gone.

If this was their base, many could still be hiding there. We had to stay sharp.

The hideout was a strong building at the bottom of a cliff. The cliff stood behind it. The land stuck out into the sea.

”It’s not an island,” Lifia said.

”Yeah,” I nodded. “I guess pirates like to have other ways to move around—by road, not just ship. It helps with supplies or escape.”

Korukona taught me that. That was good to know.

She looked serious again. Her cheeks were still red, but her eyes were sharp.

Still, I felt some distance between us. Maybe she was still shy, or careful.

That was fine. I didn’t need to rush things. I’d take it slow—step by step.

 Anyway, we were here now.

 Should we storm the place?

No. That might make them destroy clues or hurt themselves, like the pirate leader before. Maybe I should use the magic item—the Siren’s Harp—to break their will first.

But first, I needed to understand the situation.

I lifted the telescope and looked at the hideout.

 ”Hmm?”

There was a ship. A big one.

It was as big, or even bigger, than the pirate ship we had just fought.

Was it part of the same crew? No. There was no skull flag. It looked different.

This one had a neat flag—gold edges and a blue lion in the middle.

 ”Let me see!”

Korukona grabbed the telescope and looked.

”That’s the navy’s flag. I’m sure of it!”

She told me that the flag was the sign of the Kingdom of Nakuos—the kingdom that called us here as heroes.

And the flag next to it? That was the Royal Navy’s battle flag.

So the navy was at the pirate base.

A large warship stood there. Small boats, likely for boarding, floated nearby.

If we followed logic, we’d think this was a raid to stop pirates.

But I didn’t trust it. Something felt off.

 That pirate leader—he was strange.

He flew a loud skull flag, looted like he already knew when the navy would be gone, and died before saying a word.

And the navy? They didn’t seem eager to stop pirates that were clearly asking for attention.

 Too many things felt wrong.

What if some people in the navy were working with the pirates?

What if this mission was to erase clues… to silence witnesses?

And right after we beat that pirate ship? Too perfect. Too clean.

”Why is the navy here… all of a sudden?”

Korukona narrowed her amber eyes at the warship.

I had no love for the kingdom.

They pulled people from my world. If they thought we were weak, they would throw us away. They saw us as tools, not people.

Now, they wanted to use our names again. Use us as weapons.

 I didn’t trust that.

And now, the navy’s move only made that feeling worse.

What if the attack on Korukona’s village, and the navy’s silence after, were all planned?

 I looked at her again.

She stood in the sunset. Her short black hair moved with the breeze. Her cat ears twitched.

Her brown skin glowed under the red sky. She looked straight at the warship.

This girl—she had the heart to give up everything to save her people.

I found that brave. I found that beautiful.

To hurt her, to use her body and her hope—that was evil.

 I wouldn’t let it happen.

We didn’t have proof. Not yet.

But the clues were adding up.

Now, we had to see it for ourselves.

We had to hear the truth.

 And then, we would act.

With that in my chest, I closed my hand into a fist.
