Chapter 140 Haruto’s Position
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
After the second time in the bathroom, Haruto was too tired to do anything else. The hour was already late. He moved to the bed and fell asleep right away, as if someone had turned off a switch.
The next morning, Akane made a small breakfast. It wasn’t much, but it was warm and kind, just like her. After the two of them finished eating, they got ready and went to Haruto’s apartment together.
Harue had been told through a short message, just enough to let her know what was going on. But it wasn’t the same as seeing them with her own eyes. She had been worried—of course she had. So when she saw them standing side by side, her face lit up with joy. It was clear she had been waiting for that moment.
But joy wasn’t all she felt. Guilt weighed heavily on her heart. Over and over again, she apologized to Akane.
”Akane-chan… I’m so sorry! If only I had been stronger as a mother… If I had done better…”
Akane shook her head gently, her eyes soft.
”Harue-san, it’s alright now. And honestly… I don’t think I could have helped Haruto on my own.”
Akane had been busy with hands-on work training. Because of that, she hadn’t been able to stay by Haruto’s side when he needed someone. Even if she had stayed, the way he had used her—like she was only there for his body—would have been too hard for her to bear.
Haruto was broken then. The one who helped him stand again wasn’t Akane. It was Harue. A mother’s love had reached him in a way nothing else could.
”No… I still think Haruto and I should return to being just a normal mother and son…” Harue said.
”…Ah, Mom. Actually, I wanted to talk to you about that.”
”I know what you’re going to say. Don’t worry about me!”
”No, I think… it’s not what you’re thinking.”
Yesterday, right before Haruto left to go to Akane’s place, Harue had told him something important.
—”Haruto, don’t think about me. Make your choice for Akane-chan first. She’s the one who matters most now.”—
Because of that, Harue believed she already knew what Haruto was going to say. She thought he would end their special relationship. And she had prepared herself to accept that.
But then, Haruto said it straight out.
”…Actually, we decided the three of us will be… together.”
”……eh!? ……what?”
”I promised Akane that I won’t do anything with you, Mom, when she’s not there. So… if it happens, it has to be with all three of us. That’s what it means now.”
”…Akane-chan… are you really okay with that?”
”I thought about it a lot. I understand that Haruto is different from other people. I know he’s special. So I thought about what would be best for all of us.”
”…And that best choice is… for all of us to be together in that way?” Harue asked, her voice shaking.
”I didn’t want him to choose only me. I didn’t want him to choose only you either. No matter which way it went, someone would end up hurt. That’s why…”
Her voice became quieter.
”If we all feel a little pain together, at least we’ll understand each other. That’s better than leaving someone behind.”
That was Akane’s answer. Not a perfect answer, but one she could live with.
”…You’re amazing. I never would’ve thought of that,” Harue said quietly.
”No… I was just scared. I didn’t want to face the choice,” Akane whispered.
Harue shook her head.
”That’s not true. Accepting everything like that is even harder than choosing one side.”
”I agree,” Haruto said. His voice was clear and firm. “Thank you, Akane. I’ll make sure you both feel happy. I promise.”
”Hehe. With two women by your side, Haru-kun, you’re going to have a tough time.”
”Yes! We’ll both take good care of Haruto, won’t we? Especially when it comes to love and relationships!”
”Ugh… j-just… not too hard, okay?”
Haruto had learned something in his past life: when a group had more women, the man’s role often became smaller. That’s why he had avoided situations like this.
But this time, he knew there was no escape. And honestly… maybe that was okay.
