Volume 3 Chapter 142-5 Linca Training!

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Linca let out a dry laugh.

”Suppressing civil wars and dealing with bandits… it’s way easier with a magician around. Not to mention things like managing the Oasis Springs, maintaining the farmlands by the river, and controlling the weather… there’s a lot to do, huh?”

Kian sighed heavily, staring at his sword.

”I’ve been doing nothing but swordplay, and I’m still getting nowhere…”

”I don’t think that’s true,” Linca replied, shaking her head gently.

Kian smirked, looking a little bitter.

”Sarah told me my control over my energy and my release speed are so bad that they’re barely even on a monk’s level.”

 ”Oh…? Is that so?”

”Do you think so too? Do you think my energy control is at a 1 out of 10?” Kian’s voice held a note of frustration.

Linca, who seemed more interested in her tea than his training, tried to steer the conversation away from his frustration.

She swallowed her bite and tilted her head thoughtfully.

”Well… I’m not sure. But I don’t think it’s a 1. The fact that Sarah said your energy control is worse than monk-level training is a bit weird, though… after all, Sir Kian, you graduated from the monastery, right?”

”I just barely passed… Energy control and release speed were definitely my weakest points. Honestly, I think I probably got a failing mark for those.”

”You know… if you really failed, you wouldn’t have graduated. It means that, at the very least, you must’ve had the basic abilities. And besides, Sir Kian, you used a ‘Leap’ technique against me last time, right? The one with the spiral energy wrapping around your legs before you shot forward?”

”Ah, that’s ‘Pursuit of the Shadow.’ But, honestly, it’s not even perfected yet. It’s supposed to be an unavoidable attack, but people always dodge it.”

”Wait, people? Sir Kian, are you some kind of head-chopping ghost with a vendetta? That’s some serious killing intent right there.”

”Don’t start with me,” Kian shot back, clearly annoyed.

Seeing that they were going in circles, Kian decided to demonstrate.

”How about this?” He called out, releasing a small blast of energy and shooting out a thin thread of ki.

”What exactly do you want me to say? I don’t know how serious you’re being, Sir Kian. You didn’t even suck any of my magic power out during that. You’re just holding back because you don’t want to waste energy.”

”I’m not holding back. This is my full power,” Kian said seriously.

Linca stared at him, unconvinced. “Eh… really?”

”Yeah. Really,” Kian insisted, but Linca just shook her head.

”In that case… this is really bad, huh?”

”Ah, I figured you’d say that,” Kian sighed.

Linca stood up and picked up a stone, tossing it effortlessly toward a massive tree several dozen meters away. Her energy flared up, making the stone explode upon impact with the tree. The tree shook violently, dropping branches and sending birds flying in every direction as it slowly toppled over.

”See? That’s how it’s done,” Linca said casually, as if it were no big deal.

”Wow. Alright. Now try it,” she added, handing Kian a stone.

Kian threw the stone in the air with a flick of his fingers, using his energy to push it. When it started to fall, he tapped it back up.

”Okay… now try it with two stones,” Linca said, a bit of a teasing tone creeping in.

 ”Wait, what?!”

 Kian’s eyes widened in surprise.

The moment the stones doubled in number, Kian’s concentration faltered, and they fell to the ground. It was basic training, and even with his power, he couldn’t pull it off properly.

 ”No way…”

”Well, I barely managed to heal myself three times a day until just three months ago,” Linca shrugged. “My skills with ‘Wall’ and ‘Shot’ were pretty bad back then too.”

Kian felt a sharp sting of embarrassment, but he tried to shake it off. Just then, he felt the pressure building in his head, like the weight of all his failures was finally hitting him. His vision blurred, and his knees buckled.

”Wait, Sir Kian!? What happened?” Linca’s voice rang with concern.

 ”I… I can’t. I don’t think I can get up right now…” Kian muttered, almost in disbelief.

Feeling utterly defeated, he collapsed, overwhelmed by the weight of it all. It felt like the past fifteen years had just crumbled away. He wanted to cry, but his pride wouldn’t let him. He had to get it together, but right now… he couldn’t.

Linca knelt beside him, worry filling her eyes.

”Sir Kian, don’t worry! I’m here! You’ll master ‘Shot’ in no time! Don’t lose hope!” she said, trying to comfort him.
