While many of the doctors were busy focusing on the ongoing transplant surgeries,
Haruto was walking alongside a group that wasn’t part of the main team of attending physicians. These were rounds—hospital visits to check on patients—but the teams had been split up.
Because there were so many patients admitted, the hospital had divided the rounds into several different groups.
These groups were what Haruto had mentioned earlier—factions formed inside the hospital.
But honestly, Haruto didn’t care about any of that.
What mattered to him was learning as much as possible about the patients.
Following these rounds was simply the most efficient way.
(This patient has early-stage cancer and is waiting for surgery… And that patient—his cancer has already spread, so he’s undergoing chemotherapy while still considering surgery.)
A drug designed to suppress cancer cell growth and promote their death.
He took notes on every patient like this. It wasn’t just for curiosity.
Haruto’s goal was to find patients he might be able to heal with his ability…
No—more accurately, to explore ways to help them without anyone finding out.
In the case of the early-stage cancer patient, surgery was still possible.
There was no need to intervene—at least not yet.
But for the other patient, where the cancer had already spread…
If the chemo worked, surgery could still be an option.
If not, the treatment would just continue with anti-cancer drugs indefinitely.
In other words, if Haruto’s ability could quietly heal just the parts damaged by the spreading cancer, that person might have a real chance.
Even if some of the cells were already weakened by chemo, healing them with his power could give them a shot at surgery.
(If I keep calm and think it through like this… maybe I can make my ability useful.)
At the moment, all he could do was follow along during the rounds. There was no opportunity to touch the patients yet.
Besides, even if he healed someone instantly, they’d still have to wait their turn for surgery.
So for now, he focused on gathering information—and figuring out who needed help the most.
After several days of steady effort, Haruto finally finished seeing all the surgical patients.
And the one he decided to prioritize with his ability was someone on the waiting list for a transplant.

Organ Transplantation
A medical procedure used when an organ becomes too damaged by illness or injury.
To survive, the patient must receive a healthy organ from another person.
In Japan, there were currently about 16,000 people hoping to receive transplants.
But in one year, only 600 people actually received them—that’s a mere 4%.
Because of that, the wait times were cruelly long:
* Heart: Around 3.5 years
* Liver: Around 1 year
* Lungs: Around 2.5 years
* Pancreas: Around 3.5 years
* Small Intestine: Around 10 months
And for kidneys—the most common—people often waited over 15 years.
The longer they waited, the more lives were lost before their turn came.
That’s why Haruto made his decision.
Even if he couldn’t replace their organs, he would use his power to strengthen them—just enough so they could hold on until their chance came.
(Healing them doesn’t mean they’ll survive the whole wait… But it’s still better than standing by and doing nothing!)
