Volume 1 Chapter 17 Absolute Ace (Cute But Super Scary)
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Chinatsu-chan took down Weed-san in a single strike. That was her payment for getting the sword for free.
We all stood frozen. Weed-san’s head flew through the air—way beyond what the sword could possibly reach. It had to be over ten meters away. Just like that, Chinatsu-chan had defeated Weed-san, who was supposed to be a top-tier fighter in this world, ranked 30th with the “Swordsman” skill.
”Hehehe, Takumi-kun, were you watching properly?” Chinatsu-chan asked me with a grin, just like always.
Weed-san’s body started its resurrection, breaking apart into glowing light before disappearing completely. Time, which had felt like it stopped, suddenly started moving again. The stunned members of the 5th Division, along with Yawashi-kun, broke into cheers and ran over to Chinatsu-chan.
”That was amazing, Chinatsu-chan!”
”Yeah, I couldn’t even follow the movement.”
”I didn’t know you were this strong…”
Chinatsu-chan looked a little embarrassed by the praise, and the tense vibe around her melted into her usual, easygoing mood.
”Hey, what just happened back there?” one of the members said. “I blinked, and it was already over.”
”Yeah, I just drew and cut with iaido,” Chinatsu-chan replied like it was no big deal.
That explanation didn’t help at all. Chinatsu-chan says things like that sometimes, but still… I had to ask for more details.
”So first, you drew your sword with iaido, right?” I asked.
”Yeah, that’s right,” she nodded.
”But the slash didn’t look like it was anywhere close to hitting.”
”True,” she said without hesitation.
”…Why?”
”Because I can cut from outside the sword’s reach.”
”What? How?”
”That’s the ‘Weapon Enhancement’ skill. It makes the weapon stronger, so the slash flies out. Chisame is amazing, you know. And kind of selfish. Also a big eater.”
I didn’t totally get it… but I guess the main point was that Chinatsu-chan and that cursed sword were a perfect match.
”Hey, Takumi-kun, I’m strong, right?” Chinatsu-chan asked, tilting her head.
”U-uh, yeah. You really are,” I said, nodding with a nervous smile.
Honestly, her strength was terrifying.
She had just defeated someone ranked 30th in the world in an instant. Not long ago, she was struggling against goblins and complaining all the time. Now it was like she’d turned into a cheat character.
As we talked, Weed-san returned from the church, where he’d been resurrected.
”Whew, been a while since I last died,” Weed-san said with a laugh. “You’re strong, Chinatsu. You’re about as scary as Rira—the one ranked 5th.”
”Thank you. Uncle was strong too,” Chinatsu-chan replied. “If I didn’t have Chisame and just had a regular sword, I would’ve been sliced in half. Then Takumi-kun would’ve seen my insides, huh?”
She said it in her usual dreamy voice, but the words were way too creepy.
”I’m going to stay in McGaref for a while to train and prepare,” Weed-san said. “If you’re up for it, let’s have a rematch sometime. Also, since you guys seem tight on money, here—take this.”
”Eh? N-no, we already got the sword, and you even paid the deposit for the church, so—”
”It’s fine,” Weed-san interrupted. “Someone as strong as Chinatsu wearing worn-out leather armor? That’s too embarrassing. Don’t worry about it. With your level, this’ll become pocket change in no time.”
He pulled out a leather pouch from his Magic Bag and handed it to me before walking away. It was heavy… obviously a lot of money.
”…Hey, Hikari-chan, do you think he’ll come back?” Chinatsu asked.
”Yeah,” Hikari-chan nodded. “It’s pretty obvious he likes Chinatsu…”
I opened the pouch with Hikari-chan. Inside were 20 gold coins. Seriously? If that’s considered spare change, then Chinatsu-chan’s strength must be worth more than I realized.
”Hey, Hikari-chan. Let’s head back to the dungeon,” Chinatsu said. “I want to let Chisame eat all the monsters it wants.”
Hikari-chan looked at me like I’d betrayed her. I gave her a weak smile and nodded slightly.
Understanding my hint, Chinatsu-chan cheered and dragged Hikari-chan away with her usual energy.
Hikari-chan glared at me with eyes that said, you traitor…
Sorry, Hikari-chan. But right now, you’re probably the only one who can keep up with her.

By evening, Chinatsu-chan returned from the dungeon full of energy. Behind her were the completely worn-out 5th Division members—and some from the 3rd and 4th Divisions—looking like they’d seen something terrifying.
”…Takumi-kun,” Haruka-chan said, stepping forward. “Hikari told me some of it, but I want to hear it from you too.”
”Yeah,” Kentaro-kun added. “It wasn’t hell for us. It was hell for the monsters.”
From the look on their faces, I could already tell what kind of chaos had unfolded.
”Ah, yeah. Chinatsu-chan was really fired up, right?” I said.
”Fired up?” Haruka-chan’s voice turned sharp. “You’re calling what happened ‘fired up’? That girl was laughing while wiping out monster after monster, like a lawnmower cutting grass.”
”Ah… sorry.”
”You don’t get it,” Kentaro-kun said, sighing. “The other adventurers and government soldiers who saw her lost it. She kept screaming ‘This is fun! So fun!’ while swinging that sword. Asakura-san, seriously…”
”Yeah,” Haruka-chan nodded. “Our job was just to follow her and pick up magic stones. Other parties even complained that she was stealing their prey, so we had to split the stones with them. Everything we worked for…”
”She can’t stay in the upper layers anymore,” Kentaro-kun said. “At this rate, she’ll wipe out every monster in three days. And you know extinction is banned because the monsters need time to respawn.”
Still smiling, Chinatsu-chan walked over.
”Takumi-kun, I did it!” she said proudly. “I finally helped everyone.”
”Uh, yeah. You really worked hard,” I replied.
”Of course!” she beamed. “To me and Chisame, goblins are like plankton. Armadillo worms are like pill bugs.”
Wait, weren’t armadillo worms supposed to be super tough monsters in the lower upper levels? Only Ginga-kun’s magic sword and Kano-kun’s greatsword could even deal with them. And she just called them pill bugs.
”Oh, also, this,” Chinatsu-chan said, pulling out a long staff from her Magic Bag. “The Staff of Agilaus.”
Haruka-chan and Kentaro-kun’s eyes shot wide open.
”Huh?! That’s the Staff of Agilaus, right?! Why do you have that?!”
”Remember when Hikari and I got separated from the group?” Chinatsu-chan said casually. “We explored the labyrinth and found a treasure room full of chests. It was in one of them.”
”That’s the treasure room in the lower upper layer! What happened to the guardian?!”
”Oh, that guy? He was too slow, so I couldn’t wait and split him into 17 pieces. Took two hits, though. He was kinda strong.”
We all looked up at the sky, speechless. That monster was the one even the 1st and 2nd Divisions had to retreat from…
”…Hey, I think Chinatsu’s earnings today might be more than our combined total from the past few years,” Kentaro-kun whispered.
”Don’t say it. Just don’t…” Haruka-chan replied.
Then we looked at each other… and couldn’t help it—we burst into laughter.
”Hey, Takumi-chi.”
”What’s up, Kahoru-chan?”
”Isn’t Chinatsu-chan too strong? Isn’t she breaking the story’s balance?”
”It’s fine. The balance hasn’t broken by the end of Chapter Then, I’ll leave it to you.”
