I stood by the entrance of the labyrinth, seeing off the new 3rd Division making their first advance into the middle layer, and the new 4th Division heading up to earn some money. Normally, we’d see them off at the gate, but since this was their first formation, I had gotten prior permission from the gatekeeper to meet them here. By the way, the new 4th Division was still led by Mido Kentaro-kun, and no one had changed.
”Hey, Takumi,” Mido-kun said with a small sigh, “if only Shibata-san had joined, it’d lift our spirits by at least fifty percent…”
Everyone except me nodded in agreement.
”What’s so sad about spending my days with these guys again…” I muttered.
Mikoshiba was one of those lucky types surrounded by girls whether he was in the old or new 3rd Division — a fortunate situation.
One of the others added with a shy smile, “I just want to show off to the rare free Shibata-san.”
I could sense their genuine hopes, but Shibata-san had refused, saying, “I definitely don’t want to dive with those guys; it might be overwhelming on the first day!” There was no changing her mind. It was because of their constant teasing that she kept her distance. Honestly, they might as well just go quietly to a brothel and spare everyone the trouble.
”You say that, but being surrounded by girls can also be stressful, you know,” Mikoshiba Isshin-kun said quietly, sounding a bit weary.
We didn’t attend the same middle school, but I’d heard about Mikoshiba’s harmless stories. Once, a girl complained, “Teacher, the boys are looking at us inappropriately!” and so the swimming class was split — boys on one side, girls on the other. That was why he could safely mingle with the girl gang. My middle school? Ginga-kun was the one in charge.
By the way, Mikoshiba also often visited brothels, but strangely, no one disliked him for it. He was quite lucky.
”Anyway, take care, Hikari-chan. Don’t push yourself too hard,” I said while we double-checked our belongings.
Suddenly, government soldiers arrived noisily, collecting magic stones — important energy sources — as part of their training. Among them was our commander and mentor, Captain Kanare, part of an elite unit challenging the middle layer.
”Ah, it’s you guys. You’re heading for the middle layer, right?” Kanare-san said with a battle-hardened yet polite air. “I’ve received reports—Chinatsu and Haruka have gotten pretty strong.”
He seemed a seasoned warrior but kept a respectful tone. Rumor had it he once ranked as high as 800th in his youth.
”I’ve already given you the lecture, but don’t overexert yourselves. Especially watch out for the Opal Cerberus; it’s a tough enemy. If you encounter it, retreat immediately. If it activates, it could endanger others. Make sure to inform the contact soldiers at the entrance.”
”Understood. Thank you very much,” Hikari-chan replied courteously.
I glanced toward the labyrinth entrance, watching them. Though called upper, middle, and deep layers, the labyrinths weren’t connected—they were just named by difficulty.
The deep layer’s entrance was usually surrounded by buildings to prevent accidental intrusion. It was a place where battalion-level armies had been sent, only to return devastated with no success.
”By the way, Takumi,” Mikoshiba whispered, “that ‘Godspeed Weed’ is staying at McGaref. I asked for some guidance but was told, ‘There’s no need for a showdown.’”
We knew that old man well. He’d faced Chinatsu-chan and was defeated instantly. Even Kanare-san, an upper-tier powerhouse, couldn’t handle Weed-san, who was quickly taken down by Chinatsu-chan…
”Takumi-kun, the check’s all good,” Haruka-chan and Mikoshiba-kun called out with confident, reassuring voices.
”If this goes well, we should contact Ginga-kun and have him return. At this pace, everyone might be able to buy citizenship someday.”
”Yeah… a future where we can live normal lives doing regular jobs. The future we’d given up on is right in front of us…” Haruka-chan whispered, eyes glistening, holding Hikari-chan’s hand tightly.
”…Um, sorry, it’s about that time,” I said quietly.
”It’s fine. We’d rather the turn come quickly,” Hikari-chan replied calmly.
”Yeah, me too. …Um, today I’m sure my body’s going to get all heated with excitement, so I want Takumi-kun to help me cool down…” Haruka-chan said softly, avoiding the boys’ gazes.
We exchanged words quietly — yes, today I had a very important mission.
”Well then, I’m off. Come on, Chisame, there are lots of treats waiting. I’m looking forward to it,” Hikari-chan said as everyone headed into the labyrinth.
I went toward Shiori-chan’s shop to buy a stamina recovery potion.

”Welcome back, Takumi-kun! Would you like to take a bath? Have a meal? Or perhaps some company?” Rira-chan greeted me warmly the moment I returned to base.
The others left at base were Yawashi-kun, Takada Honoka-chan, Shimizaki Kurumi-chan, Endo Saki-chan, and Shibata Koji-chan.
How had things come to this? Originally, Haruka-chan was supposed to be the last to experience intimacy, but she asked Rira-chan if she could give up her place and be with me on the first day. Rira-chan had responded encouragingly, “Then I’ll be ready later, so you should definitely enjoy a special night with Takumi-kun!”
Apparently, Yawashi-kun had already been with Honoka-chan. When we discreetly asked him, he gave a straightforward reply: “Protagonist types can do as they wish. I’m happy with my share, so don’t worry.” Kurumi-chan had no objections either.
So today, my role was to spend time with Rira-chan and Haruka-chan. When did I become the lead actor in this story?
”Then, let’s start with Rira-chan,” I said.
”Yeah! I’m happy to make this a special moment for you!” she smiled brightly.
We shared a gentle greeting and held hands as we headed toward my room.

”Hey, Chinatsu-chan wore her uniform, and Hikari-chan dressed up, right?”
”Yep! Rira-chan, will you wear something nice too?”
”Of course! I’ll dress in something that’ll make Takumi-kun smile just by seeing me. Please wait a little longer,” Rira-chan said with a playful grin, her black hair cascading softly as she asked for a quick smile from me in the hallway.
”Ah, I’m so jealous… but today’s a special day for Rira, isn’t it?” Kurumi-chan passed by and looked at us with a teasing smile.
”Then how about a little get-together with Kurumi-chan later?” Rira-chan casually suggested with a wink.
If Chinatsu-chan didn’t interrupt, this would be my first time spending special moments with three people…
”But since it’s Rira’s special day, maybe it’s better to keep it just between us,” I said, hoping to be considerate.
”That’s fine, as long as the memory is a happy one. We shouldn’t focus only on me or only on Takumi-kun’s feelings—balance is important!” Rira-chan smiled, gently linking her arm with mine.
Hey, the ‘balance’ thing was probably just to keep me on my toes, right?
”Well then, I guess I’ll join you too! As a good friend, I’m always up for anything!” Kurumi-chan said excitedly.
It seemed almost certain the three of us would be spending time together. Once the girls agreed among themselves, I had no say.
”I’ll get ready too. I’ll put on something nice to surprise you, Takumi-kun.”
And so, left alone in my room, I pictured Rira-chan’s sweet and charming outfit. I was glad I’d bought an extra stamina recovery potion…
