Chapter 6 The Students Who Were Given

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Currently, the entire class, including Ayumu, was lined up in front of a brilliant red crystal orb. It wasn’t that their will was weak or that they lacked intent. It was indeed true that the officials from the otherworld were proclaiming, “You will be provided with preparation funds and unique items,” and “After defeating the Demon Lord, you can choose any partner you wish.”

However, more than that, Kiritani’s persuasion—”There’s no going back even if we oppose it, so we have no choice but to fight,”—and the undeniable reality that “Even if we throw a tantrum, we can’t return to our original world,” couldn’t be ignored by anyone. Therefore, everyone chose the option to fight as heroes. No, it would be more accurate to say they had no choice but to choose it…

”Oh! What an incredible power! A skill called Inspiration that allows multiple martial arts skills from the start!”

”Yesss!! We did it! It’s a winning skill!”

”Huh? Lame… I’ve got a 75% physical damage reduction, you know?”

”Shut up! My skill is obviously stronger! Your ability is toast the moment you get attacked by anything other than physical!”

The classmates were steadily awakening to their own relatively powerful abilities. Amidst this, a hushed conversation could be heard. “Hey. Next up is Gotanba, right?” one whispered.

”Ugh! As if he wasn’t already oppressive enough…” another muttered.

”This is amazing—a berserker with superhuman strength and a two-handed sword,” another bragged with a malicious smile.

”Hehe— that’s right! You guys better not defy me,” Gotanba warned, his tyranny about to escalate.

Next to stand before the soul orb was the vice class representative, Mineyama. As she raised both hands to the orb as instructed by the surrounding locals, her body radiated a silver light, shining like a gemstone.

 ”What is this?!” someone gasped.

”Indeed… divine radiance—a holy knight with over 100 in all ability values, possessing naginata jutsu and a holy attribute…” a priestly figure nodded in satisfaction.

[T/N: Naginata jutsu — traditional Japanese pole weapon technique, a martial art focusing on the naginata.]

It must have been quite the divine blessing, as those dressed in priestly attire murmured their approval. It seemed she also had high ability values in the otherworld, which led to wondering what Kiritani would receive next…

”W-What is this! Golden Flash Slash?! I’ve never seen a skill like this!! All ability values are over 100… how wonderful! Beyond expectations!” the locals exclaimed.

Even the girls surrounding Kiritani, let alone the folks from this world, were cheering with excitement. “Kiritani, you’re so amazing…” one whispered.

”Takuya is a special existence even in this world♪” another breathed.

”Having high potential beyond just his looks is fantastic! I want him to protect me…” they murmured, in a rather creepy manner.

(I guess just these guys—classmates—are fine… Just let me go back. To my original world.) Ayumu thought bitterly.

Gotanba clicked his tongue and muttered, “Tch,” but to be honest, Ayumu didn’t care. No matter how amazing Kiritani was, as long as that power wasn’t directed at him, that was fine. He had said it many times, but couldn’t they at least find a way to send him back? (´Д`) Hah…

Next up was the class’s Madonna, Yuzuki Yuka. She was a girl with a neat appearance and a gentle, pure aura. Her hair fell to her shoulders in light chestnut waves, with slightly curled sideburns that made her movements look graceful.

According to what Ayumu had heard, she was kind to everyone, pure, and excelled in both sports and studies, rivaling the vice class rep, Mineyama. Truly, when she stood, she resembled a peony, and when she sat, a lotus; her walking figure embodied the essence of a lily. She was popular among the other girls because she never flaunted it.

(It’s likely that those who didn’t want to follow Kiritani stepped aside… how unfortunate. Well, I’m one of them too…) Ayumu thought.

”Oh… this person is also wonderful! Specializing in attack magic and rare healing. They can even use advanced area heal and sleep status!” a local resident praised.

”It’s a Saint… a Saint! How wonderful—how wonderful…” others whispered, worshiping Yuzuki. She looked bewildered, but to them, she must appear as a divine messenger. Her eyes involuntarily widened as she turned her gaze to the next candidate.

(Next is… ugh! Miyake?) Ayumu frowned.

There was a reason. Miyake Yuka was a cute girl with dark brown hair tied in twin tails, but she had disliked gloomy Ayumu like a cockroach since middle school, and naturally, Ayumu hated her just as much as the monkeys that threw poop and the alpacas that spit.

However, she was bright, popular in class, and had many friends—the complete opposite of Ayumu. She got along well with Yuzuki Yuka from earlier, and the only one she disliked in class was Ayumu.

”What a surprise… once again, we have the combat class we desire! It’s the Bow Hero! Wow, amazing! Truly amazing! May the goddess Viness bless you!” a local cheered.

From Ayumu’s perspective, it wasn’t amazing at all. Of all people, Miyake Yuka was the ranged attacker, so if they ended up on the battlefield, he had to be careful of what was behind him!

(No, even if I dislike her, she wouldn’t come to kill me…) he thought, but facing reality, he couldn’t say it was 100% impossible. Just the thought of an unreliable person aiming for his back made his blood run cold and left him uneasy.

”Sarin? Are you okay? You look pale,” Marika Sakashita called out.

While lost in thought, Marika, who often got scolded by vice class rep Mineyama for wearing her uniform in her own style, approached him. Despite her appearance as a gal and her gal-like personality, Sakashita had an incredibly high level of communication skills, able to converse about subculture, games, and even risqué topics with people of all ages.

Furthermore, since she was not known for bad behavior, she had the trust of the teachers and interacted equally with both the nerds and the sports club members. She was a hyper girl who was liked by everyone, so perhaps if Mineyama had not been in the same class, she would have become the vice class rep.

”Ah… yeah. Ms. Sakashita, huh… It’s okay. I was just lost in thought,” Ayumu replied.

 ”Lost in thought~?” she teased.

”You see, Ms. Miyake seems to dislike me, right? If an arrow were to suddenly fly at me from behind in the chaos, I’d be scared and think, ‘Oh no, that’s terrifying…’” he confessed.

It wasn’t something to hide, so he decided to tell her what he was thinking. She suddenly burst into laughter, clutching her stomach.

”Bubub! Puhah, puhaa! Hahaha! No! I’m sorry! S-sarin! What is that! That’s super funny!!” she laughed.

”No… um… I’m seriously worried about this, you know…” Ayumu said, embarrassed.

”No! Pupu! Puhpuh… No matter how much Mii-chan dislikes Sanai, she wouldn’t deliberately shoot an arrow at you! Really! Were you actually worried about that? S-sarin? Don’t people often say you’re overly self-conscious?” Sakashita asked.

”U-um? …Now that you mention it… I guess that’s something people say often?” Ayumu admitted.

Indeed, he did have a tendency to be overly self-conscious. Am I being too concerned? He tilted his head while pointing his index finger at his mouth.

”What? That’s so cute, S-sarin. Hehe,” she teased.

Apparently, his upward gaze while tilting his head was cute.

”Come on, S-sarin, you’re just interesting and cute~ You’ll be just fine! Mii-chan is a good girl,” she said warmly.

(That’s right. Miyake is a good girl… just not to me!) Ayumu thought bitterly.

After saying that, Sakashita left. Nothing was resolved at all…
