Chapter 7 It’s Not Good To Be Kind To Everyone
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The students’ Hero Ritual continued in a steady, ceremonial rhythm. Tension hovered beneath the surface, but the process itself was calm. Sakashita, the fashionable gyaru, awakened as a Magic Warrior. Sashima from the library committee followed as a Barrier Technique Adept. Now, only two remained: the bullied Takuma Sada… and Ayumu.
The others had already gone through the ritual. At this point, most had lost interest or simply looked on with blank stares that seemed to say, “Just finish already.”
”Well then,” the facilitator prompted with a polite nod, “please step forward, whichever of you prefers to go first.”
”But… what should we do?” Ayumu asked, glancing at Sada. “Do you want to go first or last?”
Sanai, standing nearby, asked this not out of politeness, but caution. Sada was the type to remember every slight—better to confirm things and avoid unnecessary grudges.
”Shut up!! Don’t look down on me, Sanai!” Sada snapped, venom thick in his voice. “I’m above you! Obviously I’m going first!!”
Whether it was pride or irritation that Ayumu had brought it up first, Sada looked aggravated. He grumbled to himself—“Tch… seriously, what a pain…”—then moved forward without waiting.
”It’s decided, then,” the old facilitator said. “Now, place your hand over the gem.”
Sada stepped up, shoulders stiff with tension, and hovered his hand above the glowing red orb.
Just like before, the gem began to shine… but this time, the light wasn’t warm.
A jet-black aura erupted, swirling around Sada’s body like smoke from a cursed flame.
”This is… incredible!” the old man exclaimed, eyes alight. “A Dark Knight—shadow attribute! A hybrid class, adept at both melee and ranged combat! His base stats average 100 across the board… and he already has access to Shadow Slash, Shadow Blink, and Shadow Aura. That last one’s especially noteworthy—it spreads fear to nearby enemies while lowering their attack power. An extremely effective support skill.”
He practically buzzed with excitement. No doubt about it—Sada had drawn one of the high-tier classes.
”So… I’m strong, huh?” Sada asked, trying to sound casual but visibly trembling with adrenaline.
”Of course!” the facilitator confirmed with an eager nod.
Sada stared downward. A quiet, trembling laugh escaped his lips—”Hehehe…”—then erupted into full-throated mania.
”Hahahaha!! I always knew this day would come!! Compared to me, those other losers are just trash! Parasites feeding on society’s scraps! Once we graduate, they’ll be crawling at the bottom while I rise! Pathetic fools obsessed with popularity and emotion—weaklings clinging to fleeting things!”
The sudden arrogance wasn’t unexpected. Sanai simply watched. This was the real Takuma Sada, exposed for all to see.
”Ah?! You think you’re hot shit now, Sada?!” Gotanba roared from the side. “Just ’cause you scored a decent class, you think you can talk down to everyone? I’ll break your damn jaw!”
Gotanba stormed toward him, fists clenched.
”Isn’t that your problem, Gotanba?” Sada sneered. “You thought you were someone just because you had slightly better stats? Don’t flatter yourself. Even back in the old world, we weren’t equals. We’re not even on the same plane of existence.”
”You little—! I’m gonna kill you!!” Gotanba lunged and grabbed Sada by the collar, veins bulging.
Tension thickened the air like static.
WHAP!
”Gyahhh!!” Sada yelped as he dropped to the floor.
”Ugh! The hell, man?!” Gotanba stumbled back. “Kiritani?!”
Kiritani stood between them, arms relaxed, expression unreadable. He had moved in fast—striking both of them at their pressure points with practiced precision.
”Huh? I just shut up the two monkeys screeching at each other like it’s feeding time at the zoo,” he said calmly.
He turned to the class.
”It’s embarrassing… watching you idiots fight during a sacred ritual. You’re dragging the rest of us down with your pettiness.”
Gotanba hissed through his teeth and backed off. He knew better than to pick a fight with someone like Kiritani, who was practically a one-man army.
Sada, meanwhile, was curled on the ground, clutching his side and wheezing.
Pathetic.
Sanai watched silently. (…I’m not helping him.)
He’d seen this pattern before. If he offered a hand, Sada would just twist it into something humiliating. “Sanai looked down on me,” or, “He’s mocking me,” or worse. With Sada, humiliation wasn’t something he felt—it was something others inflicted on him. That’s why everyone always left him alone.
”Hey! Yuka! Stop it!” Miyake shouted.
”Huh? But leaving him like that is just sad…” Yuzuki replied, already taking a step forward.
Sanai agreed with Miyake—Yuzuki should stay out of it.
Kindness wouldn’t help someone like Sada. He’d just convince himself, “The class madonna must like me—that’s why she helped.”
T/N: Madonna refers to the class’s idealized “perfect girl”—admired, unattainable, and universally beloved.
And Sada would think exactly that.
Still, Yuzuki ignored Miyake’s warning and knelt beside Sada.
Sanai sighed inwardly.
…Poor girl. She doesn’t realize her kindness might be the very thing that ruins her.
