Chapter 27 Alchemist!! Birth Of Ayumu Sanai?

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”…This is strange,” Ayumu muttered, tilting his head as if the weight of the thought might tumble right off his shoulders.

That morning, under the pale light spilling through the Alchemist Guild’s high windows, he had joyfully received his official certification from Master Rhines. His master’s voice still rang in his ears—loud, gravelly, and impossible to ignore.

”Enough! I have nothing else to teach you!! Get out!!” Rhines had barked, slamming his cane against the stone floor for emphasis.

Ayumu had always assumed a mentor-apprentice relationship was an unending chain—the master never retiring, the apprentice forever apprenticing, their bond cemented until the end of days. This sudden severing felt… unnatural.

”For the master to kick out the apprentice… is that normal in this world?” he asked aloud, voice carrying the bewilderment of a man who had just been handed both a diploma and an eviction notice.

He *had* learned a great deal from Rhines—alchemy circles that shimmered with life, recipes for potions that could outlast winter, and yes, how to haggle so hard that merchants wept. His coin purse was pleasantly heavy now, but still… being dismissed outright? Without scandal, without wrongdoing? It was as if the ground itself had tilted beneath him.

The clang of the guild’s iron doors closing behind him echoed down the empty street, the sound sharp and final.

Ayumu straightened his back, forced his lips into a determined smile, and bowed deeply toward the building’s weathered facade. “Thank you, Master Rhines!” he called, his voice a mix of gratitude and a stubborn refusal to let his confusion overshadow his respect.

With that, he turned and stepped away from his old nest—his boots tapping against cobblestones that suddenly felt much larger beneath his feet—toward whatever awaited him in the alchemist’s wide and mercurial world.

Notes:

• Rhines – A weary apothecary who serves as the protagonist’s mentor at the Alchemist Guild.
