Chapter 37: The Surroundings of Yugan
One week after the Round Table Conference in the Holy Kingdom of Alyurein…
In the bustling streets of Yugan, the town crier, Bell, rode atop a horse, his trumpet blaring.
”Hear ye, hear ye, citizens! A hero summoned on the opposite continent beyond the Birene Mountains has committed a heinous crime! Truly, the minions of the Evil Goddess Viness show no mercy! It’s said the incident was covered up on the other side of the mountains!”
Ayumu, who had been enjoying a bowl of wheat porridge from a street vendor, nearly choked on his food at the announcement.
(What the hell are they up to…?)
Ayumu had indeed killed a few people—but only those who deserved it. He’d never harmed an innocent, nor would he dare. If he did, he wouldn’t last a day in this town. The guards would likely beat him to a pulp before he could escape. The people of this world weren’t stupid or incompetent. Other countries were probably the same, give or take.
The more he thought about it, the more he struggled to understand why anyone would commit such a senseless act. Honestly, it seemed idiotic.
(Well, it’s not my problem anymore. I’m done with them.)
Shaking off the thought, Ayumu pulled out a map of the world, tracing his finger to confirm his location.
”Ah, so this is Yugan…”
He marked the spot.
”And here’s the Kingdom of Elandric.”
He scanned the map further, noting the other nations:
The northern country of Nelrearia Saint Kingdom,
The elven nation of Lukursa Theocracy,
The dwarven realm of Valend Cave Kingdom,
And the southern beastfolk nation of Lusrith Beastfolk Kingdom.
(So many countries, and most of them are ruled by non-humans…)
He noticed smaller territories within the nations:
Valend Cave Kingdom had the halfling autonomous region of Merkvala,
Lusrith Beastfolk Kingdom had the ket-see autonomous region of Danucool,
And Lukursa Theocracy had the skyrunner autonomous region of Nathia.
(Skyrunner? What’s that?)
Without hesitation, Ayumu approached a group of drunken men nearby.
”Excuse me, what’s a skyrunner?”
”Huh? Skyrunners? They’re skyrunners, pal. You don’t know?”
”Hah! You must be from the other continent, eh? That’s why you’re so polished.”
”Hey, don’t assume! But yeah, you’re not from around here. Skyrunners look like us humans, but they’ve got bird wings on their backs.”
”Right! They use those wings to deliver messages for the nobility. If you ever serve a high-ranking official, you might see one. Hahaha! Hic!”
Overwhelmed by their boisterous laughter, Ayumu stepped back slightly. “Uh, right… take care of yourselves…”
