Chapter 49 Interlude – Hiyori Sashima
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The surplus Hero Group naturally formed, and just as naturally dissolved… Months passed…
Now, Hiyori moved alongside her best friends, Tokihara Misaki and Ootori Fuuka.
”Fuu-chan, are you okay? Should we slow down more?”
”Yeah, Fuu-chan. It’s that time of the month, right?”
The sharp-featured beauty, Misaki, and Hiyori both worried about Fuuka, who forced a smile in response—
”I’m fine. Thanks… sorry, you two. It’s lighter today, so I’ll try to keep going.”
Despite her words, the pain of her period hadn’t vanished. Though they hadn’t walked far, sweat already glistened on her forehead. The other girls, incidentally, had left her behind yesterday, unable to move due to the pain…
While the severity of periods varies, the unique suffering women endure should be understood. Yet, the others had said, “We can’t wait any longer,” and abandoned Fuuka and them.
Misaki had fumed, “How cold-hearted can they be!” But Fuuka defended them, “Stop, Misa-chan… It’s a dangerous world… I’m sorry for putting everyone at risk because of me…”
Even though her stomach pain left her immobilized…
In the end, unable to abandon their dear friend, Hiyori and Misaki had stayed behind last night.
”Of course. Fuu-chan’s a precious friend. We could never leave her.”
”Right. Just like Natchan says. Let’s keep going a little more, then rest at that hill up ahead.”
”Okay… sorry… Hiyori-chan, Misa-chan,” Fuuka murmured softly.
Thanks to Misaki’s combat-oriented blessing, they’d survived this far, but the otherworld was brimming with danger. Terrifying monsters were one thing, but the most unpredictable threat came from humans, particularly bandits…
Since leaving the town where the boys were, they’d already been attacked five times by malicious individuals.
Each time, Hiyori, a Barrier Technique Adept, protected everyone, while Misaki knocked the attackers unconscious. Honestly, Hiyori felt helpless otherwise. All she could do was create barriers, store items in a subspace to lighten their load, and little else.
Fuuka could use magic, but pushing her was out of the question. Her blessing made her a target for those with ill intent, so a fighter always needed to be nearby.
(Our current group composition is flawed… We need to reunite with other combat-capable members soon!)
Suppressing their urgency, the trio pressed on through the otherworld’s wilderness—
Their destination: the leveling grounds targeted by Sayumi Mineyama’s party—
The Caesaran Empire’s Birene Mountain Range Underground—
The Birene Mine Tunnel.
Notes:
• Mineyama – Vice class rep, serious and disciplined.
