Chapter 57 My Jaw Won’t Close!!
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Ayumu Sanai found himself inexplicably confined within the Grand Palace, the residence of Emperor Yugan.
”How… how did it come to this?” he muttered, staring at the opulent walls that now felt like a gilded cage.
He recalled the morning clearly. When he opened his shop, there had been more customers than usual—but before he could react, a sudden shout of “Secure him!” erupted. Men swarmed in from the back doors and windows, and before he knew it, he was being restrained. His shock was beyond words.
But the true astonishment came when he realized that Emperor Yugan had an heir: the Crown Prince. To Ayumu’s memory, there had been no mention or hint of a prince ever existing.
Yet the reason for this omission would soon become apparent.
* * *
”Maternal lineage… male-exclusive onset… chronic bleeding symptoms… There’s no other explanation. These are the signs of the so-called royal disease—hemophilia,” Ayumu stated candidly.
At once, the royal physicians and imperial mages turned on him with accusations.
”What did you say? I’ve served as a royal physician for forty years, and I’ve never heard of such a disease! Don’t lie! You charlatan!” one yelled.
”You only wish to win the emperor’s favor! Don’t let His Majesty be deceived! This man is a fraud!” another barked.
”Yes! Rely on him at your peril! There’s no way he can cure an incurable disease! He only wants the imperial treasury!” a third added.
Ayumu felt the injustice of it all. They had kidnapped him under imperial orders and yet berated him like a criminal. He longed to escape.
(I just want to go home…)
”Silence!” a high-ranking woman’s voice rang out, sharp and commanding. The room fell quiet instantly.
”You failed to save my son, did you not?” she demanded, her voice trembling with fury.
Ayumu froze. Who is this person…? My son…?
It took a moment for realization to hit him. “W-wait… Empress Sarendra?” he stammered.
Tears glistened in the empress’s eyes as she continued, her voice unwavering despite her sobs.
”If this man cannot save my son, then I shall see him dead!”
(Wait… what?! Seriously?! Are you for real?!)
It seemed that if Ayumu failed to save the Crown Prince, he would be executed as a consequence. He was now caught in an impossible situation—completely collateral damage in the prince’s fate. They kidnapped me, and now this…?!
Ayumu’s fear left him speechless. He hoped someone might intervene, call out the injustice—but no one did.
”…If that is what Your Majesty wishes, we have no choice,” a previously defiant physician said reluctantly, bowing deeply. “We are your servants. If you command it, we shall cooperate to the utmost.”
Ayumu watched in disbelief as those who had been shouting against him earlier turned obsequious before the empress. Their earlier words seemed like a distant memory. Two-faced… he thought bitterly.
And so, Ayumu Sanai was forced to save the Crown Prince—for the sake of his own life.
