Chapter 62 Interlude – Is This the Symbolic Emperor System…

”This needle is far too thick… I’ll need something finer if it’s going to fit into Crown Prince Aare’s veins…”
Ayumu’s memory flickered back to the time he had supervised the prototype of the injection needle, brow furrowed in concentration.
If his memory was correct… no, it wasn’t just memory—it was something he had read recently in a book. There was no way he could be mistaken.
In the history tome that had accompanied him in Yugan, it was recorded that the former Emperor of Yugan had rebuilt the nation from the brink of collapse by deliberately decentralizing power and shrinking the territory—a true man of vision.
And yet… the reality before him made no sense.
He surveyed the neatly arranged motor components he had just completed. “Let’s see… are the measurements correct?” he murmured to himself.
Examining each piece carefully, he thought, Measurements check out… But this was hastily made, wasn’t it? Is it really strong enough?
Shaking off his doubts, he reminded himself: The materials are top-class. I even drafted in the finest blacksmiths in all of Yugan. There’s no way this would fail.
Indeed, the craftsmanship was exceptional. The metal gleamed with a luster unlike anything he had seen in his original world… but that was not the point. How on earth had he processed it like this? And how had he gathered such skilled artisans—people who had not even been here yesterday?
Bringing out his appraisal lens, he examined the items meticulously.
Yes… structurally sound. Durable. This would certainly meet the minimum requirements for practical use. That it could be completed the day after submitting the specifications was beyond expectation.
But the surprises were far from over.

”Time to retrofit the grain mill’s windmill,” Ayumu muttered, almost to himself, as he adjusted the mechanism. “Now, if I wrap the copper wire neatly around the components at high speed, it should work perfectly.”
His stomach tensed. What am I doing? Retrofitting the windmill… At high speed, it could wind the wire faster and more neatly—but the windmill was the state’s property, used to grind grain for the people’s bread. A vital piece of national infrastructure. Was this really acceptable?
Wouldn’t the price of grain skyrocket and anger the populace?
And yet… reflecting on the historical record, he felt dissonance. The books had insisted that the Emperor of Yugan no longer wielded significant power. But observing the tools, materials, and resources at his disposal, Ayumu realized the reality was far different.
What kind of power had the Emperor held before? He shivered at the thought.
He didn’t like someone’s facial features? Then execute the entire family, children included.
It was horrifying—and all too imaginable.
”I might have come at a lucky time,” he admitted quietly to himself.
Indeed, in that moment, he was grateful to witness the decline of imperial authority.
