Chapter 87 Interlude – Hiyori Sashima
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Meanwhile, at that same time, Sashima and her companions were preparing to depart from Goon, the imperial capital of the Caesaran Empire.
”All set now. Let’s go,” one of them said.
”Who would have thought we’d miss them by mere moments?” another muttered.
”Just our luck… really not our day,” came the weary reply.
With that, they turned toward the direction that Mineyama and the others had supposedly taken—toward the Birene Mine Tunnel.
At first, Hiyori’s group searched for a carriage bound for the tunnel, but the news quickly crushed their hopes: no carriages were scheduled to leave. A private coach could be chartered, yes, but the fare was far too high. Their funds were limited, and they dared not risk running out should unexpected expenses arise later. After deliberation, they chose instead to spend one night in a cheap inn and then make the journey on foot.
It was a decision born of necessity, not strength. By now, their bodies were near the breaking point, their spirits dragged just as low.
As they trudged forward, the weight of more than exhaustion pressed on them. Resentment festered. The girls who had abandoned them, the boys who had degraded their belongings, even turning their undergarments into mockery—each thought gnawed like a wound.
Step after heavy step, with bitterness rising in their chests, Hiyori and her companions pressed on toward the Birene Mine Tunnel.
Notes:
• Sashima – Family name of Hiyori. A quiet, caring girl from the library committee, empathetic toward Sanai. She followed as a Barrier Technique Adept.
• Mineyama – Vice class rep, serious and disciplined.
