A warm meal had restored everyone’s strength, and their spirits seemed lighter. Ayumu guided them to where Mineyama had last been seen, noting with relief that the girls’ expressions were far brighter than before. Most of all, the smile finally returning to Ootori Fuuka’s face let him breathe easier.
She was a girl with a soft presence—short mouse-gray bob, brassy-gold eyes—an heiress who never flaunted her wealth, always gentle and unassuming. That air of calm sweetness drew Ayumu to her, perhaps because his own mother had been the opposite: fierce, even terrifying, the kind of woman who fought back against his violent father. It was little wonder he longed for a refined, gentle lady like Ootori.
Yet Ayumu’s father’s blood also left its mark—he could not keep his eyes on only one girl. Another figure lingered in his heart: Nakaoin Kasane, from Yukina Yuki’s group. She was everything Fuuka was not: twin-tails suited her arrogant, imperious personality, a proud daughter from a family once tied to the Imperial court. Refined, high-born, and haughty—yet Ayumu found himself drawn to her as well.
Still, her difficult temperament pushed her down to second place in his personal ranking. Ootori held first. In the end, he believed, kindness mattered most—whether in men or women.
(If I can show Ms. Ootori my good side, maybe we could get closer…)
For all his internal posturing, Ayumu Sanai was a boy of his age.
Lost in such thoughts, he, walking ahead, suddenly jolted in alarm. He froze. The others halted behind him. An enemy stood before them.
(All right… now’s my chance to impress Ms. Ootori…)
He braced himself.

”Whew—done already,” came a calm voice.
Ayumu’s eyes widened.
The mushroom monsters before them had been obliterated—by Tokihara Misaki, who had wiped them out in less than ten seconds.
(Wha—she’s that strong?!)
The ground lay gouged and smoking from the blast of light she unleashed. Moments ago the creatures had been hopping about, and now they were left in mangled ruin too grisly to describe.
”Eh? What… what was that?” Ayumu asked, stunned.
”Hmm? Just a weapon skill,” Misaki replied, as if wondering, Did I do something strange?
”I… see. Nothing, never mind,” he muttered quickly.
Inside, though, Ayumu made a firm vow: (Yeah… I am never crossing this one.)
Notes:
• Mineyama – Vice class rep, serious and disciplined.
• Ootori – First appears in Chapter 49 of the story. One of Hiyori Sashima’s best friends, alongside Tokihara Misaki. Fuuka is currently experiencing menstrual pain, which slows her down and causes her discomfort, but she persists in moving forward with her friends. Her blessing makes her a target for those with ill intent, so she relies on Misaki’s combat skills and Hiyori’s barrier abilities for protection.
• Nakaoin – A haughty, twin-tailed girl from a former aristocratic family.
• Yukina – Sayumi’s friend, a half-Eastern European girl with silver hair and blue eyes, who offers support and expresses concern about the recent events.
• Tokihara – Family name of Misaki. One of Hiyori Sashima’s closest friends, alongside Ootori Fuuka.
• Misaki – a sharp-featured beauty and one of Hiyori Sashima’s closest friends, alongside Ootori Fuuka. She is portrayed as a loyal and caring individual who prioritizes her friends’ well-being above all else. Misaki possesses a combat-oriented blessing, which she uses to protect the group from dangers in the otherworld, particularly bandits.
