Volume 9 Chapter 60 Day Three (Before I Knew It, I Was Emperor)
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
I was honestly bewildered.
Well, of course. Before I knew it, I’d become emperor of the Quvarian Empire.
”When did you become emperor, Takumi-sama?”
”I don’t know. But I do feel I am the emperor.”
Even to Nyx’s question, I had no good answer.
And yet, the troublesome harassment from the Quvarian Empire had stopped completely.
The troops who had destroyed bridges were rebuilding them, and the ones who had dug holes in the roads were now fixing them.
”Takumi-sama, your mother and the others will go ahead to McGaref.”
”Got it, Meruru. But tell them to be careful.”
At this pace, we’d reach McGaref by tomorrow morning.
Haruka-chan’s group too must be moving faster than expected.
But not all the news we had was good.
”Even Sheryl… how could this happen…”
This morning came the news that Emperor Quvar and Princess Flavia had died.
And now Sheryl was dead too—executed by me, supposedly.
Even though I was here… it made no sense.
We also heard a report that the prince left in the capital had been assassinated. The empire was in chaos.
”So, since you’re emperor, does that make it the Takumi Empire?”
”Stop it, Aria. But really, this makes no sense. I have no idea how things got this way.”
If I didn’t know, nobody could explain. Nyx only tilted her head as well.
”What happens to this war now?”
”Normally, if I’m attacking me, it’s over, right?”
”But the Ghost Army under the First Emperor seems to move with its own will, not with the empire’s.”
”True… But in this case, Dalcur-san and the others can enter the capital, move its troops to McGaref. We might negotiate a ceasefire with the Gonan Kingdom, even strike the Ghost Army from both sides.”
The problem was how to give orders.
We could send messages in plain text, but how could I prove I was Takumi Nasu?
The commanders nearby were too low-ranked.
”Maybe we just have to go to McGaref.”
”The Minister of Military Affairs, Roshima, seems to be close. If you could meet him, great progress could be made.”
Nyx advised me, having drawn intel from the army.
Roshima had halted his march toward the Ghost Army for some reason.
”Yes. Somehow, we’ll win him over… But will he side with me, the one who supposedly killed Sheryl?”
”We can only hope he puts the nation’s future first.”
Our army marched toward McGaref.
Seron’s silence worried me, but too much was happening. I had no room to look back.
* * *
”Oh my, both boring and amusing things are happening.”
It was late on the third night.
After venting her frustration with a massacre in Seron, Livia used her godly authority to gather information.
”Well, Nasu-kun becoming emperor went as planned. But a princess committing seppuku? Such a soft way to die. Girls should be killed more gruesomely. I’ll have to teach them. Has my poison magic already faded…?”
Using the world’s control screen, Livia could retrieve and sort all information.
She couldn’t do anything major, but she could alter and meddle a little.
Even Takumi’s so-called teleportation magic was only her altering positions with this authority. The Rankings too were made with it.
”So dull. I meant to regain my divine abilities and play more. Now, who did she hand the godhood to? My bet is her daughter, or maybe her granddaughter… or Nasu-kun as a long shot.”
When Rusty was about to be killed by Livia, she chose to pass on her divine authority instead of resisting.
It had to be someone who could answer instantly in an emergency.
But when Livia confirmed the result, her face twisted in rage.
”What!? Yoshizaki Rira!? That Yoshizaki-san!? Don’t screw with me! In McGaref with Cartera? That’s just harassment! …No, impossible. If she’s the god herself, I can’t meddle through Divine Oracle Skill anymore.”
The reason Rira had fallen to Livia’s poison so quickly was because Livia had spoken directly:
”It’s been a while, Yoshizaki-san. It’s me, Livia-sensei from the same bus.”
Hearing that, Rira had let down her guard.
Knowing she had Divine Oracle, Livia eroded her mind, seized control, and gleefully ordered her to kill her friends.
She had failed to kill Shion… because the small life inside her womb couldn’t be cut down, even by poison.
”Damn that lewd elf… Watching a so-called god turned into a courtesan, sucking ck and spreading her legs was fun, but she really screwed me at the end…!”
Livia, too, as a former god, had nearly endless life, but not immortality. She could still die.
There were two beings she feared.
One was Cartera. If Cartera attacked, Livia’s magic power would not be enough.
”As much as I hate it, Cartera is too strong. So I want to pit Date-san… Dora Ghorat against her.”
The other was the Underworld Emperor Dora Ghorat.
Not quite Cartera’s equal, but still one who might kill her.
So she planned to make them clash, strike when weakened, and plunge the world back into chaos.
She had grown bored of the order brought by the Four Great Nations.
”I wanted the magic stone shortage to last longer, but killing too many is dull. War is best for slaughter.”
Smirking at her imagined world of fear, Livia contacted the court witch of Astoria, the Witch of the Four Seas Maribel.
She had wanted her in McGaref, but distance was an issue.
Instead, she gave her a separate task.
”Ah, Maribel? It’s me, Livia. You did well with Flavia. Yes, now strike the Burgan Theocracy. Kill as many as you can, then retreat before you die.”
”Understood, Livia-sama. A shame I won’t see the chaos after, but I will show you a harvest of deaths.”
Maribel was one of Livia’s masterpieces in this life.
Since Takumi Nasu had risen too fast, Livia had poured her all into brainwashing Maribel as a piece for chaos.
”The peaceful Astoria Kingdom… flower-headed girls are easy to taint.”
The gentle Maribel had fallen quickly.
So too had the straight and honest Yoshizaki Rira, who should have been Livia’s perfect toy for despair and grief.
”Well, fine. Date-san, Sanada-san, just wait. What tragic roles shall I give you? Ufufu, I can’t wait. And Dora Ghorat’s secret—when should I reveal it? I bet he hasn’t told anyone. He’d hate that.”
Laughing with delight, Livia stretched out.
Teleportation consumed vast magic power, so she couldn’t spam it.
She would wait until morning to confront Date Haruka’s group.
For now, she gazed at the new list of the dead, and rested.
