Volume 9 Chapter 61 Day Three (Livia’s Desire)
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The place I came back to life was a church inside Seron’s castle.
The same church where, once upon a time, Seron’s Queen had been resurrected after falling in battle—only to be cornered by Naje and forced into suicide.
Yeah. That infamous place.
And just like that queen, I didn’t even get a chance. Livia was waiting, and she snagged me in an instant. No suspense, no escape. Just… caught.
”Livia-sensei…”
”Oh my, Endo-san. You’re the only one who revived, hm? I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. Even a non-combatant like you bothered to register resurrection. That’s so like cautious Nasu-kun.”
She said it with this cruel smile—still streaked with blood she hadn’t even bothered to wipe away. My throat locked up. My face twitched.
”P-please… please don’t kill me again…!”
”Hmm. For now, maybe I’ll keep you around as a conversation partner. A way to kill time.”
I nodded, pale as a sheet, my whole body trembling. She was in a good mood, humming as she led me through the castle halls. The walls still dripped red, corpses still cooling, but she walked like she was out for a stroll. She pushed into a lavish chamber—Nyx’s old quarters, I realized—and draped herself onto a throne-like chair.
”Chatting with one of my students again… it’s been a while. And a student who actually knows about me, no less. I can’t even remember the last time that happened.”
”Y-you really are… Livia-sensei?”
”Of course. I’m Sakasaki Livia. Your homeroom teacher.”
She smiled, tossing her golden hair, pressing up her—yeah, her chest, which was fuller than I remembered. She even showed it off.
”Nice, isn’t it? Changed both my face and body. Even boosted my chest. The way men’s eyes stick to me now—mmm, the superiority feels incredible. I finally understand how Funakoshi-san and Yoshizaki-san felt, being fawned over.”
She flicked her eyes toward my flat chest, smug and sharp as a knife.
”Endo-san, you always die quickly in every timeline. Well, with a body that plain, you wouldn’t last as a courtesan either, so I guess it can’t be helped. Funakoshi-san and Kadokura-san are sluts, so if Nasu-kun survives, they usually cling on longer, trying to support him by selling themselves.”
”Why… why are you doing this?”
”Oh? Which part? Bringing war and famine to this world? Or dropping you kids into it, watching you suffer and die?”
”…Both. The Livia-sensei I knew… was kind.”
Her laughter cut me off. High, mocking, echoing off the stone.
”Ahahaha! Don’t joke. That version of me doesn’t exist. I don’t remember her, and if I did, she’d only disgust me. So drop it, okay?”
The hatred in her voice was raw, bottomless. My fear spiked so hard I—my body gave out, humiliatingly, right there.
”My, my. Wetting yourself at your age? Pathetic. Still… amusing. You remember I taught history, yes? I was always fascinated by war. By hunger.”
”History…?”
”Human history is almost nothing but war and hunger. Even in Showa-era Japan, girls were sold like livestock. I want to see that kind of world. It thrills me. That’s why I’ll never get bored, no matter how long I live.”
And the look on her face—rapture. There was no lie in it. But still, I couldn’t swallow it. It didn’t add up. And if I was going to die anyway, I wanted answers.
”You had a sister. Sakasaki Lumine. In our timeline, she committed suicide too. Why… why did you abandon her?”
”Oh, that? Because she had a boyfriend. I hated it. Unfair, right? Same half-blood as me, but she got the beauty, the attention, the charm, while I was the plain one. So I make a point of always watching her die. It’s my little ritual.”
It clicked. That face of hers, the way she’d reshaped her body—she’d modeled herself after Lumine. Her own sister.
”And Funakoshi-san… I’d love to see her die horribly. But she tends to scrape by with some cushy mistress gig. Always disappointing. Usually she or Date-san are the last to go. Still, interfering too much isn’t my style.”
”You mean… Haruka-chan?”
”Yes. Date-san’s Magic Power is top-tier. With proper guidance, she and Kano-san both become witches. The branching paths are fascinating. Though… often they end up dead in wars I sparked. Heh.”
She was getting carried away, rattling off names, lives, deaths, like she was recapping a TV show. I swallowed hard, waited for my chance, and slipped in the biggest question.
”Livia-sensei… were you always a god here?”
”No. I was human, just like you. The difference was my ‘Turning Heavens’…”
She stopped herself, lips quirking.
”Oh dear. I may have said too much. Let’s keep that a secret, shall we? Anyway, Endo-san. Are there any more classmates here in Seron?”
I knew the truth: Nagai Kahoru was here. And if Livia found out, she’d kill her. My whole life, I’d been passive, timid, but in that moment I pulled strength out of nowhere.
”No. No one else.”
”Hmm. Shall I check your heart and see?”
She flicked her fingers. Poisonous magic slid into me, slick and invasive, writhing through my mind. I couldn’t resist. I didn’t have the combat ability. Still—I stood. Somehow, I stood.
”We… we’re not your toys…!”
I raised the little paper knife I’d grabbed, charged her. I knew it wouldn’t kill her. I knew.
Her Magic Power speared through my chest, searing. Blood filled my throat, choking me as it gurgled upward. My vision dimmed, but I kept rushing until my body gave out.
”…Pathetic. Too weak. Not fun at all.”
She nudged my corpse with her foot, bored. Just like that, I was gone again. But thanks to me, Kahoru survived a little longer, hidden in the castle shadows.
