Chapter 121 Maekawa-san’s Monologue ♯

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

After morning practice, I trudged back to the dorm, my muscles aching but my spirits high. Himeno was sprawled on the couch, scrolling through her phone. She glanced up, her eyes glinting with that knowing look of hers. “Yo, Tsuchimiya-kun, you’ve got a message from Amahara-senpai,” she said, tossing her hair like she was starring in her own drama.

I opened the chat room for The Last Survivor and skimmed the message. It was a wall of text about the officer meeting’s decision on handling the recovery spring water. Apparently, calling it “recovery spring water” was too much of a mouthful, so they settled on Universal Water. Sounded like something you’d see in a shady infomercial, honestly. I’d been half-joking about calling it Super Holy Water myself, but that felt a bit too much like ripping off Dragon Ball, so Universal Water it was. [T/N: Universal Water is the official name for the magical recovery spring water, which heals or boosts abilities. Tsuchimiya’s Super Holy Water quip is a playful nod to Dragon Ball‘s sacred water.]

The message droned on about collaborating with the School Management Committee and coordinating with the healing mages in the infirmary to distribute it. Written yesterday, just before midnight. I’d read it properly later—or maybe just ask Sogahara-senpai when we dive this afternoon. No need to stress about it now.

Then I noticed another message, this one from Kijima-senpai. It was in our secret chat room—just the two of us, though it’s not like we were up to anything shady. It’s mostly for keeping tabs on Sogahara-senpai’s antics. Like that time I reported, “Sogahara-senpai’s pretending to check out Njorn but is definitely staring at Kanon’s chest. Do something about it.” By the next day, Kijima-senpai had sorted it out. Guy works fast.

 I tapped the message open.

 GC: Shiori×Tsuchimiya

Shiori: Arrived at 5th floor. Exploring the north area.

Just a routine update, sent around 6:30 this morning. Sogahara-senpai and the others were already diving at the crack of dawn. He’d been worried about my workload lately, so he gave our team the morning off to recharge. We’d join them after lunch, ready to roll.

The living room was buzzing with post-practice energy. Some of the team lounged around, others prepped for showers. The air was thick with chatter about spear techniques and sparring moments that stuck out. The team’s morale was sky-high, and it felt good. Nishina-san and Kanon were whipping up a late breakfast, to be served after we’d all cleaned up.

”Tsuchimiya-kun, good work out there,” Maekawa-san said, handing me a glass of chilled barley tea. Her voice was soft, but there was a warmth to it that made me grin.

”Thanks,” I said, taking a sip. “You’ve gotten pretty good yourself, Maekawa-san. Your reaction speed out there? Kinda blew me away.”

Her eyes flickered, and for a split second, her face clouded over. I froze, caught off guard. “Uh… you okay?” I asked.

”Tsuchimiya-kun,” she said after a beat, her voice quieter now. “Can we… talk? Just the two of us?”

”Uh, sure,” I stammered, scratching the back of my neck. “I’m cool with that.”

A brief silence hung between us. Maekawa-san glanced at the others, her expression tinged with something like unease. Satou-san caught her look and waved a hand. “Don’t worry about us, Hiromin. If you’re running late, we’ll head to the special zone first.”

”Yeah, take your time,” Hano-san chimed in, her tone as breezy as ever. “It’s all good, Hiromin, no stress!”

Something was definitely up. Maekawa-san gave a small nod, her lips twitching into a grateful smile. “Thanks,” she said softly. Then she turned to me. “Tsuchimiya-kun, let’s go.”

* * *

”Come on in,” Maekawa-san said, holding the door to her private room open.

”Thanks for having me,” I replied, stepping inside. It’d only been a week since we moved into these dorms, but her room felt… empty. Not just tidy—almost barren. A neatly made semi-double bed sat against the wall, next to a simple wardrobe. In the center, a muted rug and a round low table were surrounded by a few cushions. That was it. No clutter, no personal touches. It felt like a model room, devoid of life.

It reminded me of my own room when I first moved in with my stepmom after Dad remarried. She’d told me I could have anything I wanted, but back then, the idea of “my stuff” didn’t even register. Everything felt like it belonged to someone else. A few days later, things started piling up without me asking, and I was overwhelmed. That empty room, though—it was like a snapshot of my headspace back then, and the memory still hit hard.

Maekawa-san gestured to the table, and I plopped down on a cushion. She hesitated, then slid a cushion closer and sat right next to me, her gym uniform and bloomers rustling as she settled with a soft plop.

”So, about what I said earlier—” she started.

”Whoa, hold up,” I cut in, raising a hand. “If this is about your gift, you don’t have to force yourself to talk about it, you know.”

Her sudden improvement in training had to be tied to her gift—nothing else made sense. I didn’t know what her gift was, and I figured if she didn’t want to share, that was her call. Gifts are personal like that. No need to spill if you’re not ready.

But Maekawa-san shook her head, her gaze dropping to her lap. “No,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “I should’ve told you a long time ago. I was just… scared.”

”Scared?” I echoed, leaning forward. Her hands were clenched into tight fists on her knees, and I couldn’t see her face. What was going on?

She took a deep breath, then started talking, slow and deliberate. “I’ve always been good at reading people, Tsuchimiya-kun. If someone’s hiding something or feeling guilty, I can tell right away. That ability—it saved my life once. But it also dragged me into some pretty dark places. And then, in this world, when I got my gift… it got sharper. My gift is the Magic Eye of Truth. It lets me see through any lie.”

”Magic Eye?” I blurted, my voice spiking with excitement. “That’s so cool! You’re basically an anime protagonist! Guaranteed OP character status!”

She blinked, thrown off. “Anime? I don’t really know much about that…”

Crap. I’d let my inner otaku slip out. Talking anime to a girl who’s not into it? Rookie mistake. I coughed, trying to recover. “Uh, I just mean it’s an awesome gift. Honestly, I’m kinda jealous. I’d love to have a Magic Eye and, like, shoot laser beams from my eyes or something.”

”It doesn’t shoot lasers,” she said, a faint smile tugging at her lips. “But… you’re not scared? Knowing I can see through any lie, even the little ones, just by talking to you?”

I shrugged. “Kinda feels like old news. Higurashi’s always saying my lies don’t work on girls, and she’s probably right—she sees right through me. Himeno, too. She spots my bluffs in, like, a second. If we’re talking scary, Himeno’s got you beat by a mile.”

Maekawa-san let out a soft giggle, her shoulders relaxing just a bit. “Himeno-san’s so into you she can’t control herself,” she said, her tone teasing.

I grinned, meeting her eyes. “Look, Maekawa-san, I’m fine with it. Look at me—really look. I’m not scared.”

She hesitated, then lifted her gaze, peeking at me sideways. Slowly, she placed a hand on my knee and leaned in, her face so close I could see the flecks in her eyes. “Okay,” she whispered. “I can tell, Tsuchimiya-kun. Your feelings… they’re warm, like always.”

I chuckled, scratching my cheek. “I’m not great with words, so it’s kinda nice you can just get it like that.”

She smiled, soft and relieved. “Heh…”

”So, Satou-san and the others know, right?” I asked.

”Yeah,” she said, nodding. “I told Tomo-chan and Akari right away. Chika, too, when she joined the party. She was just like, ‘Cool, whatever!’”

 ”Classic Hano-san,” I said, laughing.

”But most people wouldn’t react like that,” she went on, her voice dropping again. “That’s why I kept putting it off with you guys. We got so close so fast, and I was terrified you’d pull away if I told you. But keeping it secret… it felt wrong. I couldn’t keep going like that.”

I nodded. It made sense. Her gift was a double-edged sword—powerful, but it could push people away if they knew. If word got out, it might spread, and that’d make things messy. The less people knew, the better it worked. But the closer you got to someone, the harder it was to keep quiet. “Higurashi’s probably fine,” I said. “She’s the type to get hyped about something like this. Himeno and Kanon don’t sweat the small stuff either, so I bet they’d be cool with it. Asuka-chan, though… feels like she might’ve already figured it out, huh?”

Maekawa-san’s face flickered with unease, but she steeled herself. “Yeah… I’ll talk to everyone properly, take my time. But Asuka-chan… I think she’s onto me.”

I leaned back, thinking. Higurashi’s got her own secrets, but she’s sharp. If anyone could handle Maekawa-san’s gift, it’d be her. She might even have a countermeasure ready.

”But how’s this tied to your fighting?” I asked. “I get that your Magic Eye makes you immune to feints, but your reaction speed’s on another level.”

Her eyes widened, and she hesitated before speaking. “It didn’t help much against monsters at first. Goblins just charge in without thinking, so it was useless. But since we got back from the Abandoned Floor, my Magic Eye‘s been… evolving, I guess.”

 ”Evolving?” I echoed, leaning forward.

”Yeah,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “Now I can see… what’ll happen if I attack. Or where an attack’s coming from. During practice earlier, I could tell that no matter where I aimed, you’d counter and take me down. But then your vibe shifted, and I knew you were holding back, giving me a chance.”

My jaw dropped. “Wait, that’s basically future sight, isn’t it?”

”Maybe,” she admitted, biting her lip. “Just a second or two ahead, but sometimes I can see what’s coming. In everyday life, too.”

Holy crap. She’s straight-up a protagonist. That’s an insane ability, and it might still be growing. “Since the Abandoned Floor… maybe it’s the Spirit King’s Protection?” I suggested.

”It’s the only thing that makes sense,” she said, giving a wry smile. “I don’t know for sure, but it fits.”

I grinned, the pieces clicking. “Well, that explains a lot. You’re gonna be a beast to train with, Maekawa-san.”

She laughed, a soft, genuine sound. “Go easy on me, okay? And… thanks, Tsuchimiya-kun. For accepting me.”

Before I could respond, she leaned in, resting her head on my shoulder. My breath caught. Maekawa-san was always the type to keep her distance, watching from a step back. This kind of closeness? It was new.

”Maekawa-san…” I started, my voice softer than I meant it to be.

”Talking about it… it feels like a weight’s lifted,” she murmured. “Hey… after we shower, wanna… hang out a bit longer?”

An invitation from Maekawa-san? I blinked, caught off guard. We’d had plenty of chances before, but she’d never joined in… that way. I figured she was handling her Evold urges with the other girls, keeping things platonic with me. We were close as teammates, and if she didn’t want that kind of relationship, I was cool with it. But now, it hit me—maybe she’d been holding back because she felt guilty about hiding her gift.

”Tsuchimiya-kun,” she said, her voice soft, almost hesitant. “You’re… not against this, right?”

”Nah, of course not,” I replied, my heart doing a little flip. The words “Is someone like me okay?” nearly slipped out, but I caught myself. She already knew everything—my Level 1 status, my thing for Himeno, all of it. Her Magic Eye of Truth saw right through me. Asking that question would just be me fishing for reassurance, and I wasn’t about to do that.

The truth? Everyone else in the group had already crossed that line with me. Excluding Maekawa-san now would be unfair, especially after she’d opened up like this. If I was in, I was in—no excuses. Why she’d pick a guy like me was a total mystery, but that wasn’t the point right now.

Here’s the thing: as a Level 1, just one Evold girl was enough to push me past my limits. Somehow, I’d ended up with seven of them. Every night, I was basically wrung out until I passed out. One more? At this point, it felt like a drop in the bucket (or maybe I was just delirious). As a healthy high school guy, I loved this stuff, don’t get me wrong. But with Evolds? It’s like being offered the most mouthwatering feast when you’re starving, only to realize it’s a mountain of food no normal person could finish. And you can’t leave any on the plate. They just keep shoving it in, no matter how overwhelmed you are.

But this time? It was short-term, safe. Maekawa-san had that controlled vibe, not like Himeno’s wild intensity. This was as safe as it got. So…

I slid my arm around her back, my lips brushing hers lightly. Her eyes, already glistening, locked onto mine, a faint heat in them. I kissed her again, then trailed my lips down her neck, giving a soft slurp.

”N-no… I’m all sweaty…” Maekawa-san protested weakly, her voice trembling.

Ignoring her, I ran my tongue along her smooth neck, tasting a hint of salt mixed with her sweet scent. “Let’s shower first…” she mumbled, her cheeks flushing.

”I want you now, Maekawa-san,” I said, my voice raw with honesty.

She raised an eyebrow, a teasing glint in her eyes. “…You want to do it with me in this outfit?”

”…Yeah,” I admitted, grinning sheepishly. Her in those bloomers and gym uniform, looking like that? Waiting for a shower was unthinkable. Her Magic Eye had totally seen through my otaku fantasies.

Maekawa-san giggled, resting a hand on my neck like she was soothing a kid. “Fine, you win,” she said, her voice warm and indulgent.

With her green light, I scooped her up in a princess carry, her body light in my arms.

”Wah!” she yelped, clinging to my neck, her eyes wide with surprise. “…This is the first time someone’s held me like this. It’s… kinda embarrassing.”

I carried her slowly to the bed, setting her down gently. Her face was flushed, her movements flustered. Maekawa-san was supposed to be experienced, right? What kind of stuff had she been doing before? The thought flickered through my mind, but I shoved it aside, focusing on her—right here, right now.

She wrapped her arms around my neck, pulling me into a kiss, her damp eyes gazing up at me. “Do whatever you want, Tsuchimiya-kun,” she whispered.

Her words, paired with that gym uniform, sent my body temperature skyrocketing. I leaned over her, kissing her deeply while my hand slid over her chest, feeling the soft fabric of her uniform. I could tell I was getting worked up, but I kept my touch gentle, savoring the shape and bounce of her perfectly sized breasts.

When I slipped my tongue into her mouth, hers met mine, curling softly in response. I half-expected her to take control, remembering her skills from before, but she didn’t. She was letting me lead, giving me free rein. My hand slid under her uniform, grazing her smooth stomach. She squirmed, ticklish, as I pushed the fabric up, revealing a light blue sports bra.

Pulling back to take in the sight, I couldn’t help but stare. A girl in a gym uniform, sprawled on the bed, her body exposed in the most tantalizing way—it was like something out of a fever dream. I tugged her bra aside, and her pale breasts spilled out with a soft pop, their sweet scent hitting me like a wave. They were perfect—just the right size for my hands, with small, pink nipples standing at attention.

”Beautiful…” I murmured, unable to stop myself.

Maekawa-san turned her head, her cheeks burning as she avoided my gaze. That shy look, those subtle gestures—they were dripping with allure, her whole body radiating a kind of effortless sensuality. Had she always been this stunning? I’d always thought her smile was cute, but this… this was different. It was like she was glowing, every inch of her screaming charm.

One hand reached for her breast while the other slid over her smooth thigh, my lips latching onto her nipple. I swear, I needed two or three extra arms and maybe another neck to keep up with everything I wanted to do. She let out a soft “Ah… nn… Tsuchimiya-kun…” as she cradled my head, her body twisting under my touch.

My right hand drifted to her crotch, feeling the damp heat through her bloomers. The fabric was thick, sturdy—none of that flimsy panty-line nonsense. These were the wholesome, classic uniforms worn in schools nationwide. And yet, they were insanely hot.

Her hands roamed my back and neck, sending shivers down my spine. I was losing my cool fast. To regain some control, I shifted down her body, only to realize she’d grabbed the hem of my T-shirt, tugging it up. I let her peel it off—why fight it? It felt like she was playing me like a fiddle, but you know what? I was happy to be played by a girl in bloomers.

I lifted her legs, spreading them into an M-shape. She blushed but didn’t resist. Her pale thighs against the navy bloomers were a sight to behold, a different kind of allure than regular panties. I leaned in, pretending to just sniff, then—whoosh—I dove right in, nuzzling her crotch.

”Hyah!?” Maekawa-san yelped, her legs snapping shut in surprise, trapping me between her soft thighs. Guess her future sight didn’t catch that one. She swatted my head lightly in protest, but as I kept nuzzling—careful not to graze her with my teeth—her legs relaxed, the fight draining out of her.

We had plans to hit the special zone for shopping after breakfast, so time was tight. Reluctantly, I hooked my fingers into her bloomers, sliding them down. A cute pair of panties with a tiny red ribbon peeked out. I tugged those off too, and Maekawa-san lifted her hips to help.

”It’s… okay to go in now,” she murmured.

Sure enough, her slit was glistening, slick with arousal. Evolds were always quick to get ready, but knowing she was this excited for me? That felt good. I wanted to drag out the foreplay, but time was short, so I shucked off my track pants and boxers in one go.

Last time, I hadn’t gotten a good look, but her pubic hair was neatly trimmed into a small triangle above her clit. Her folds had a slight flush, not much different from Himeno or the others, despite their “recent” inexperience. I pressed myself against her entrance, feeling the slick warmth pull me in.

”Going in,” I said, giving her a heads-up.

I pushed forward, sliding in with a wet schlup. Maekawa-san let out a soft “Nnh…!” her body trembling slightly. But as I sank deeper, something felt… off.

 Wait. Was it… loose?

With Evolds, it’s usually like being gripped by a vice from the moment you’re in, their inner walls pulsing and writhing. But this? It was softer, gentler, the folds brushing against me without that intense clamp. I reached her deepest point almost too easily.

I froze, confused, and Maekawa-san shot me a mischievous grin. “That’s what a normal girl feels like, Tsuchimiya-kun. You’ve only been with Evolds, right?”

Her words sank in, and my brain finally caught up. “Whoa… this is a normal p***y…!” I blurted, my inner otaku taking the wheel.

She giggled. “Used to Evolds? Is this too tame for you?”

”N-no way,” I stammered, pulling back slowly to test the sensation. Her folds clung to me softly, like a shy glance begging me to stay. The ridge of my tip caught just right, sending a warm, pleasant thrill through me.

”An♪” she moaned as I thrust back in, her voice dripping with allure.

”This… this is good,” I said, meaning every word. Normally, I’d be gritting my teeth, fighting off the overwhelming stimulation of an Evold’s relentless grip. But this? I had room to breathe, to control the pace. It was like being pulled from the front lines of a brutal war to a cushy rear-guard post. Last time with Maekawa-san, I remembered a vacuum-like intensity that left me reeling. Was she controlling it now, dialing it back for me?

”Heh,” she said, her eyes narrowing with a playful smile. “Go at your pace, Tsuchimiya-kun. Feel good.”

 Maekawa-san, you absolute angel.

I started moving, slow and deliberate, savoring the slick, clinging sensation of her folds. Her breathing grew ragged, syncing with my rhythm. When I grabbed her breast, her walls tightened for a split second, sending a jolt through me. I pressed myself deeper, grinding against her core, and her hips twitched, her waist arching off the bed.

”Ah… Tsuchimiya-kun… there, that’s good! Ahh!” she gasped, her back bowing as I kept up the pressure.

Maekawa-san let out a soft gasp, her body trembling as her walls clenched tight around me, pulsing in slow, gentle waves. The contrast made it feel intense, but compared to the bone-crushing grip of a full-on Evold, it was nothing. My arousal climbed steadily, a smooth curve, but I still had plenty of control.

Wait a sec. Was I… not a quick shot? I’d half-joked about having some kind of “fast-draw skill,” but maybe I’d been forged in the fires of Evold intensity. Against a normal girl? I could probably hold my own just fine. In a world where everyone but me was an Evold, it wasn’t my fault—I wasn’t weak. They were just too strong.

Feeling a bit more confident, I lifted Maekawa-san’s soft hips with both hands, angling her for deeper thrusts.

”Ah… ahh, Tsuchimiya-kun… an! Nnh!” Her hips bucked with each motion, her voice rising in pitch.

I lowered her hips back to the bed, switching to missionary and driving into her core with steady, forceful thrusts. Her moans turned into something like a scream, raw and unrestrained. I lost myself in the pleasure, my hips moving faster, unstoppable now.

 ”Ma… Maekawa-san! I’m gonna!” I gasped.

”Come, Takeru-kun! Fill me up inside! Uahh!”

”Here it comes!” With a final thrust, I buried myself deep, releasing in a rush of heat. Maekawa-san convulsed beneath me, her body shaking as her walls tightened and writhed, her thick folds caressing me with wild abandon. She’d lost control now, no doubt about it.

The sensation dragged out my release, and I collapsed onto her, breathless. She wrapped her arms around my neck, clinging tight as our trembling bodies pressed together. Even as the spasms faded, we stayed like that, locked in an embrace. I’d always liked Maekawa-san, but now? It felt like something closer to love.

She stirred, pressing her lips to my cheek. I finally found the energy to move, returning her kiss before sitting up. “Thanks, Maekawa-san. That was… amazing. I feel kinda confident now.”

”It was amazing for me too,” she said, her voice soft and warm. “Use me anytime, Takeru-kun.”

Whoa. Did that mean she’d keep doing the “normal girl” thing? “I’m all for it, but… are you sure that’s okay?” I asked. She’d been so passive this time, but Evold girls usually had a conqueror’s drive, getting off on taking charge.

”Yeah,” she said, nodding. “This is enough for me. Remember when I told you a bad first experience can make a girl hate s**? That was about me. It was my only weapon back then, so I kept going. But the first time I… served you, Takeru-kun, I felt grateful. I could accept the pleasure honestly. Right now, I’m so happy. You’re the only one who makes me feel this way.”

”Uh… wow,” I mumbled, floored. I’d figured she just liked me a bit, but this was serious. My chest felt all tingly, but I told myself to step up.

”You don’t seem convinced,” she teased, peering into my face with a playful grin. “Not my Magic Eye talking, by the way.”

”It’s not that,” I said, scratching my head. “I just don’t get why you guys like a nobody like me.”

”Hmm, you’re such an oblivious dork, Takeru-kun,” she said, her eyes narrowing mischievously. Before I could react, my still-half-hard length inside her was squeezed tight, her legs wrapping around my waist in a full-on daisuki hold. [T/N: The daisuki hold is an ACG trope where a girl locks her legs and arms around her partner, symbolizing intense affection.]

 ”Ma-M-Maekawa-san!?” I yelped.

”I got interested in you the moment you came back from your First Dive,” she said, her voice low and close to my ear. “When I saw your eyes.”

 ”My eyes?” I echoed, confused.

”You used to hide them behind your bangs, right? That day, I saw them for the first time. I was shocked—they were just like his.”

”His?” I asked, my brain scrambling to keep up.

”Not like that,” she said, giggling. “He’s way too old for me to feel that way. It’s Akari’s grandfather.”

 ”Satou-san’s!?” My mind was spinning.

”In middle school, I got into trouble with some nasty senpais,” she continued, her voice calm but heavy. “They handed me over to some yakuza types. I was abducted, assaulted… the plan was to sell me to an illegal brothel or kill me. But I had a knack for it, I guess. I turned the tables, charmed them instead.”

Her voice was steady, but I couldn’t see her face as she spoke into my ear. Her walls kept clenching rhythmically, driving me to full hardness again. She was definitely doing this on purpose. How was I supposed to process this story and this sensation?

”They were lowlifes, but one guy got possessive, locked me up. Word spread, and soon a higher-up came for me. Then another. Eventually, I ended up with the organization’s top dog, then passed to an even bigger boss. By the time I was his mistress, I had some freedom, but my life was a mess. I hated Akari back then—always picking fights with her.”

I remembered that photo of her, Akari, and Nishina-san together. My head was swimming, and her relentless clenching wasn’t helping.

”Then Tomo-chan showed up,” she said. “Akari’s childhood friend. They hadn’t seen each other since Akari started at the Academy’s middle school. Tomo was shocked to see what Akari had become.”

”Tomo enrolled at Seito Academy to fix Akari,” Maekawa-san continued. “Akari’s weak to her, so Tomo stuck to her like glue. I ended up talking to Tomo one day, and before I knew it, I’d spilled everything. She just said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll handle it!’ Even though I was kinda the enemy. Weird, right?”

Nishina-san’s a force of nature, that’s for sure. But, uh, Maekawa-san, could you ease up on the clenching? I was about to lose it, and coming again in this mood felt wrong.

”I was too far gone to turn back,” she said. “But Tomo and Akari got Akari’s grandfather to step in. He basically snatched me from the yakuza boss. I was made his mistress, technically.”

”Wait, he stole you from a crime lord?” I blurted. Who was this guy?

”He told me to live freely,” she said. “I didn’t know what I wanted, so I said, ‘I’ll be Ken-chan’s mistress.’ He was flustered—Akari threatened to disown him if he agreed, practically had him in tears. He told me to live like a normal student, maybe find a boyfriend, go to college. If I still felt that way later, he’d consider it.”

”So you became a normal girl,” I said.

”Yeah. I didn’t think I could do normal love, though. I figured I’d just be Ken-chan’s mistress—or maybe his caretaker, given his age. I owed him that much. But when I saw you, Takeru-kun, I was floored. Another person with eyes like his, sitting right behind me.”

She giggled softly. “What kind of eyes?” I asked, half-laughing. “I’m just a regular, nerdy otaku.”

”They’re cold, sharp, like a drawn blade,” she said. “But pure, kind… they make me feel safe.” Her arms and legs tightened around me, her walls clenching hard. I might’ve let a little out.

”You’re overselling me,” I protested. “I’m not scary at all.”

”That’s just my take,” she said, smiling. “You’re fine as you are.”

I wasn’t buying it, but okay. “Oh, and Ken-chan tried to play it cool with Tomo, saying, ‘You owe me one.’ She shot back, ‘Guess I’ll be your mistress too!’ He literally begged her to spare him.”

Maekawa-san laughed, recalling the scene. Nishina-san’s sly like that—probably knew her looks gave her leverage.

”So, that’s my story,” she said. “Grossed out?”

”Nah,” I said, meeting her eyes. “Sounds like you went through hell, but none of it’s your fault.”

Her face lit up, and she hugged me tight. “Ah… wait, Maekawa-san! I’m gonna—”

 ”Call me Hiromi,” she whispered.

 ”Hiromi! Ease up, I’m—!”

 ”Come lots, Takeru-kun.”

I let go completely, and somehow, we went for another round.

* * *

After a quick shower, we headed to the living room. The others had already left. Hiromi and I grabbed the breakfast left in the fridge, scarfing it down before she went to fetch Valeria. That girl’s always holed up in her room, but she sticks to Hiromi like a shadow when it’s time to go out.

We left the dorm and headed to the school’s shop street, passing students heading to the teleportation facility or browsing the stores.

”They’re checking out leather armor,” Hiromi said, glancing at her phone. “They want your input, Takeru-kun, so hurry up.”

My phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out, expecting a group chat update. But it was a DM from Kijima-senpai. My heart stopped as I opened it.

”Takeru-kun!?” Hiromi called as I broke into a sprint toward the teleportation facility, her footsteps pounding behind me. There was no time to explain. The message had just one word: “Help!”
