Chapter 163 Too Late Cream Puff

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Ayumu had gathered all the Keldan executives and the executive cadets—or rather, he’d herded them together because as Keldan slowly grew, more and more of them didn’t even know each other’s faces anymore. So this was meant to be a welcome party and a big meet-and-greet rolled into one, except…

”Mmmn~♡ Is it really okay for a Half-Elf like me to be eating something this fancy~♡”

”It’s absolutely not okay ꐦ Just having a mixed-blood mutt like you sitting at the same table is disgusting ꐦ Be silent ꐦ”

”That’s… that’s so cruel of you to say ꐦ Poor Ms. Myucel ꐦ”

Ayumu had thought good food would smooth things over and make the vibe better, so he’d served thick-cut steak, but of course, the Knight Yuvus, who clearly had a problem with Half-Elves, just had to start dissing Myucel—and *bam!* Sarasa slammed her hand on the long table, exploding in anger for her. Meanwhile…

Over on the other side, the Knight Whitney, who was from the same Elandric people as Yoluminette, and Alize, who was Nelrearian, were practically drawing their swords over the cream puffs and shortcakes, and the whole welcome party had turned… very—very sword-drawn tense!!!

[How did it come to this?!] Ayumu thought desperately, eyes darting left and right in panic. He really shouldn’t have told Sarasa there’d be thick-cut steak at the party. She wasn’t even an executive, so technically he hadn’t invited her, but—

”Steak?! Something that fancy’s gonna be there?! Yes, Chief Sanai!! I want some too! Can I come with you?! Please?!”

He’d thought *well, it’s a party, why not,* and let her tag along… and never in a million years expected her normally gentle self to end up clashing like this!!!

He’d only just appointed Yuvus as a Knight recently too, because after Yahaha he wanted another male guard, and Yuvus had risen fast in the Domain Army. Plus, he was the same age as Sarasa—sixteen—so Ayumu figured they’d get along. He never dreamed this flawless handsome Knight would actually *hate* beautiful Half-Elves. Did this guy… not even have a sex drive?!

H-he had to somehow fix at least *one* of these problems—!!

”W-well. Well… y-Yuvus. You don’t have to speak so harshly, right? I’m the one who invited Myucel. Since she’s now *my* Knight, she’s also an important member of Keldan. It’d make me really happy if you could get along with Half-Elves too…”

When Ayumu, his direct superior, spoke gently to him, Yuvus grimaced bitterly but still gave a stiff bow. “Yes, my lord. My apologies. I did not mean to sour the mood…” he muttered, finally lowering his metaphorical sword.

On the other hand, being called an “important member” by Ayumu seemed to light something in Myucel—though she’d flinched when Yuvus yelled, her smile slowly came back. “Sorry he scared you… Yuvus is really loyal, he’s not actually a bad guy… If he says anything again, just come to me, okay?” Ayumu whispered quickly, covering for both of them at once.

”Yes! I’m used to being yelled at so I’m totally fine! Thank you for caring, Lord!” Myucel replied, still in a whisper but practically bouncing with energy.

The second time he’d met her, after she’d found out he was the Lord, she’d flooded him with so much sugary praise—”Great Lord! You look so cool today too!”—that he’d been shocked, thinking (*does she have a two-faced personality or something?*). But looking back now, he figured that was probably just her feeling insecure about being Half-Elf.

He didn’t care about guys, but girls like her… he really wanted to protect.

And just as that protective urge welled up, the girls had started arguing over who would get the last cream puff.

Especially Yoluminette and Evri, who led the recon squad, were clashing hard. “Cream puffs are the greatest invention of this century! You should respect your senior and let me have it!” Yoluminette declared, while Evri shot back, “If you’re my senior, you should be letting your junior have it! Your claim is unjust!”

O-okay… this was bad. He needed to call in Sera, Whitney’s best friend and the solid, reliable leader of the bowguard squad, to calm things down.

So he caught Sera’s eyes and gave her a subtle nod—

Her eyes sparkled. “Hah?!” she gasped, and then suddenly whipped the bow off her back, stringing an arrow. “That cream puff shall go to me, who has the Honorary Count’s trust!!” she proclaimed—escalating the fight even further?!!

N-noooooooo!!! That’s not what he meant at all!!! How did she even take it like that?! Ayumu clutched his head in despair.

And because Sera had joined in, the bickering instantly blew up into an all-out brawl.

But that was fine—because this was exactly why he’d made Velma the guard squad leader. This was her cue to step in!!

 He turned toward her.

”Hey! You! Half-Elf—! If you try any funny stuff in Kelnyaaaan, hic, I’ll take you on myshhhelf!! Hic!!”

 Gyaaaaaaahhhhhh—!!!

She was completely drunk and slurring threats at Myucel instead!!!

Like, okay, maybe brawls weren’t rare in this world, but how could they all be acting like this was normal—were they all just weirdly thick-skinned or something?!!

As Ayumu ducked in disbelief, a glass bottle—no idea who threw it—went flying right toward Myucel’s head!!

”Look out!!” he shouted, but too late—the bottle smacked her on the back of her head and Myucel snapped. “What do you think you’re doing ꐦ”

”Windmill!! ꐦ” she barked—and the air around her exploded.

Whoosh—two thin shockwave-like arcs tore through the air. Ayumu screamed, “Uwaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!” because of course—those shockwaves were slicing through all the furniture in the room!!!

”My brand-new long tableeeee!! It was expensiveeeee!!”

And worst of all, at the end of it, Yoluminette ended up punching a car-sized hole right through the just-repaired interior wall that faced outside.

 ”Gyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!! My freshly repaired wallllllllll!!!!!!!”

Even Ayumu, who was normally weak against pretty girls, couldn’t take it anymore—

”Uwaaaaaaaaahhhhnnnn (sob) From next time, no one’s allowed to bring weapons anymorerrrr!!! And none of you are getting paid this montttthhhhhh (sob)!!!”

He bawled like crazy—like, way more than anyone would expect from a seventeen-year-old boy—until the girls just stared at him in stunned silence.

Of course, all the executives and cadets were horrified to hear they wouldn’t be paid this month, but honestly, just losing this month’s pay was a mercy—because the cost of all the damage was way higher than all their salaries combined.

Really, letting them off with only this much showed how kind Ayumu actually was.

And later, when Vanya pushed a food cart carrying a new batch of cream puffs toward the party room, she opened the door to find the whole place blown open into a two-story mess—and of course, she squeaked, “Whaaaaat happened heeere?!!” in pure shock.

Her voice probably mixed right in with Ayumu’s cries, echoing through the cold night air of Yugan.

May luck somehow find poor Ayumu…
