Chapter 203 Senelio
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
A long-haired young man with a face of striking beauty, the complete opposite of Crown Prince Erik, sat engrossed in a book.
Even men found themselves captivated by his looks, yet his deep crimson eyes and jet-black hair unnerved others. Being an illegitimate child, whispers followed him: “The king was seduced by a quarter-elf and fathered her child…” or “Unworthy of the royal court, a bastard born of folly…” Cruel truths that Senelio knew all too well.
His name was Senelio. Despite his appearance and lineage keeping him from the royal roster, he shared a peculiar connection to the young High King Karl: Senelio’s mother had been Karl’s first lover and original fiancée.
Yet, as a quarter-elf, his mother Felvis had been relegated to concubine status. Similarly, Senelio’s position in the line of succession was lower than his half-sister, Dear Princess Lizbett, placing him third despite being Erik’s elder brother.
One day, another black-haired youth arrived, seeking access to Elandric’s rare royal manuscripts. The newcomer, with warm brown eyes, approached Senelio at the Royal Library and, in a nervous stammer, asked, “Excuse me… um, could you tell me where the rare texts of the Elandric royal collection are kept? I don’t know…”
Senelio, ever gracious, guided him to the librarian. The librarian, seeing the short-haired youth, muttered “Senelio…” with a disapproving glance. The youth froze.
”Eh? …Prince?!” he stammered, tears welling. “I-I am so sorry, Your Highness! It’s not that I didn’t recognize your nobility! It’s… it’s just… a momentary lapse! Please forgive me!!” He clung to Senelio’s feet, sobbing.
(What on earth is this kid?!) Senelio thought, inwardly amused, yet he soothed him gently: “Calm down… I have no right to punish you.” The short-haired youth’s eyes widened in awe. “Such generosity!” he whispered, bowing deeply, and accompanied the librarian as he left, clearly respectful from the heart—not out of mere appearances, unlike the court officials who sneered at Senelio behind closed doors.
“Quite an unusual person,” Senelio mused, as he eventually departed the Royal Library himself, reflecting on the encounter.
Later that day…
Word soon spread through the Kingdom of Elandric that a prominent noble from neighboring Yugan had pledged support to Senelio, sending ripples of shock throughout the court—but that, as they say, is a story for another time…
To be continued…
