Rerobaku 220

Chapter 220 Scottish Grenadiers!!

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

On the northeastern edge of the Demi-human Continent lies an island nation, the Rostic Kingdom.

This was the homeland of Princess Sary—now Empress Sarendra—who had married Rai, the former Crown Prince of the Yugan Empire and now its Emperor.

Rostic is a naval state, renowned for its maritime strength. Alongside the oceanic power of Solis, a peninsula nation barely clinging to the southwestern side of the central continent, it is considered one of the strongest and most prosperous naval nations both economically and militarily.

One of Rostic’s royal fleets, belonging to the kingdom’s navy, docked at the refurbished port of Keldan, officially for goodwill and resupply.

(T/N: In truth, the “goodwill” claim was more a cover; the port fees and pilot charges here were far cheaper than in neighboring Livonia.)

From the moored warships disembarked infantrymen dressed in uniforms that resembled the British royal guards of the other world. This time, because Empress Sarendra herself was visiting Keldan, the royal military band of Rostic had accompanied them as well.

To Ayumu’s surprise, among them were soldiers who looked unmistakably like cat beastfolk, likely descendants of the Lusrith Beastfolk Kingdom.

According to Empress Sarendra, these were the descendants of Susie, an ancestor abducted by Rostic generations ago. They had since become the most elite corps of the Rostic Kingdom. True to their folded ears, they were known as the Scottish Grenadiers, a unit of royal grenadiers.

These soldiers were said to make full use of their beast-like physiques to hurl hand bombs with remarkable power. Their only weakness, however, was that unlike other feline beastfolk—such as those resembling the British Shorthair—their joints were fragile, making them prone to joint pain.

Ayumu couldn’t help but note the odd appearance:

The rabbit beastfolk of Keldan already looked like the Sylvanian Families or Peter Rabbit toys from his original world. Now here were cat beastfolk, dressed in bright British red coats, looking like something between Scottish Fold cats and “Puss in Boots.” The surrealism of the sight was almost overwhelming.

The Grenadiers showed keen interest in Keldan Domain Army’s new time-fuse grenades, which exploded three to four seconds after being thrown. After testing their performance, they negotiated a license agreement for production back in Rostic.

As an aside, while Empress Sarendra visited, she was joined by Princess Norfemina, Second Princess Ronafermia, and Princess Anastasia. The three of them suddenly threw themselves at the cat beastfolk soldiers, smothering them in cuddles.

 (ФωФ) Gaba!

 Σ(☉Д☉;) Sudden cuddle attack!

 (>‸<;) Nyaaaan!

”P-please stop, nya! To fluff us without consent is murder of the soul, nya!!”

Despite their protests, the spectacle was undeniably adorable.

While watching the scene of beastfolk being mercilessly fluffed, Ayumu was startled by Empress Sarendra’s words.

”Isn’t it fine? Anyone who dislikes fluffing is just like the traitorous America, always striking from behind!”

 The cat beastfolk panicked.

”N-no, that’s not true, nya! We would never betray you like America does, nyaaa!”

 Ayumu froze.

 America?

Wait—what? Did she just say America?! How?

He had spoken to Emperor Rai about his original world before, but never had he mentioned that he was born in a Japanese hospital and had lived in America until finishing elementary school.

When he asked Empress Sarendra cautiously, she confessed she did not know when or why the word “America” had come to mean “traitor” in common speech.

”…It must be coincidence, right?” Ayumu thought, beads of sweat trickling down his neck.

For now, he resolved never to reveal that he had once lived in America—not in front of these people.
