Chapter 129 City Festival Preparation Period and Various Happenings in the Research Lab
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The room echoed, as if it were a sealed space. The bathroom was filled with moisture, and the scent of cypress created a calming atmosphere.
”…Is it alright to be escaping reality like this, Master?”
”Don’t pull me back to reality from a mere one-bar monologue.”
Ichika, who was literally washing my back with her body, whispered in my ear. Her sweet voice sent a sweet numbness through my back, hardening my manhood.
Yohira, who was servicing my manhood with her mouth, glared at me resentfully, but her upward gaze only fueled my excitement. She then took her mouth off my manhood and grumbled.
”Isn’t it a bit rude to be escaping reality when we’re both serving you?”
”I can’t maintain my sanity if I don’t distract myself. The Acting Head of Family would kill me just for having premarital relations, and if I got you pregnant, they’d put my head on a pike.”
I was desperately suppressing the impulse to make love with Yohira right here and now. Even though she must have noticed my strong feelings for Ethelena, why does Yohira underestimate my feelings for her?
”What, wasn’t your excitement over my slender body just a lie?”
”When did I ever say my excitement for you was a lie?”
”You always have Ethelena and Ichika serve you, so I worried I wouldn’t be able to satisfy you.”
”You’re a noble lady, remember that. You’ve become quite commoner-like in this house.”
Yohira provocatively lifted her modest chest from below, but I was already sufficiently aroused by her alluring figure. Being washed by Ichika from behind was also an exciting factor, but it wasn’t the sole reason my manhood was erect.
”Fufu, not commoner-like… you mean more vulgar, don’t you?”
Saying that, Yohira wrapped her hair around my manhood.
”I found a book on etiquette like this in your father’s study. Let’s give it a try.”
”Should I burn that study down?”
I seriously considered burning down that den of iniquity that gave Yohira and Ethelena such unnecessary knowledge. It was fun role-playing meeting the former emperor’s concubine with Ethelena yesterday, but this is different. As I was thinking this, Yohira rubbed my penis with her hair. The sensation of her meticulously cared-for, glossy hair was unknown, and I couldn’t help but groan at the unfamiliar stimulation. Yohira, smiling enchantingly at my reaction, stuck out her tongue and stimulated the opening of my wetness before swallowing my glans. The sensation of her tongue licking the tip and her hair rubbing against my penis was an almost unbearable stimulation.
”Master, you mustn’t forget about me, degozaru.”
She whispered that from behind and gently bit my ear. In an instant, pleasure overflowed, and I ejaculated involuntarily. I heard Yohira’s moaning voice, but unconsciously, I placed my hand on her head to prevent her from escaping. When I released her after she drank the last drop, Yohira wiped her mouth with her hand.
”Honestly, you should give me some warning beforehand.”
”Sorry, I couldn’t.”
I apologized to Yohira, who was looking at me with resignation. The problem was that my manhood was still not satisfied. I hadn’t expected to receive such intense service when I was brought here by the two of them on the way to the couple’s bath. Although my thoughts had calmed down after ejaculating once, my manhood was still energetic. I could relieve myself by pushing Yohira down, but that would be extremely dangerous. Ethelena had mentioned during pillow talk that Yohira and I had surprisingly good compatibility. She said that while one time might be a 50/50 chance, two times would be a sure thing. My manhood was losing its hardness after ejaculating, but Ichika placed her hand on it from the side. Ichika’s hand rubbed my penis and caressed my glans, restoring its hardness. I could see why she was trained in the arts of pleasing men as a former Oniwaban. She pinpointed my weaknesses from my reactions and relentlessly stimulated me until I regained maximum hardness.
”Hey, Ichika…”
”Neither Yohira nor I can go all the way, degozaru… so we’ll leave the rest to our helper, degozaru.”
”…Helper?”
As I tried to caution her, Ichika said that, and I was bewildered. Who was this helper? Just as I wondered, I heard the sound of the bathroom door opening. Looking over, Ethelena stood there, completely naked. What helper? She summoned the final boss under the guise of a helper.
”Ethelena-sama, Master’s preparations are complete, degozaru.”
”Yes, thank you.”
”No, it’s all for Master, degozaru.”
”Wait, what are you talking about!?”
It seemed Yohira and Ichika had a mixed bath with me to prepare my body. I didn’t understand what they were saying, and I didn’t understand what they were saying to me. My head and my groin were about to go crazy.
”Only Ethelena can be intimate with Tatara, so there’s no one else to rely on to heal Tatara.”
”I also have no choice but to avoid intimacy if it risks affecting the child, degozaru… Although I really want to be intimate with Master too, degozaru.”
Ichika’s slightly pathetic expression pained me, but I couldn’t say anything since I was the one who got her pregnant.
”Well then, here I come, Tatara.”
Ethelena straddled me, facing me. A face-to-face seated position and a 4P with my sides held down… What should I do?
While I was bewildered, Ethelena lowered her hips and welcomed my manhood into her vaginal canal. The pleasure information flowing into my brain from my manhood, which had been ejaculated once by Yohira and made erect again by Ichika, was so overwhelming that I almost lost consciousness. As my back arched reflexively, my face was turned to the side, and Ichika kissed me. Her tongue traced my lips, and as they parted slightly, her tongue invaded my mouth and ravished it. From the opposite side, Yohira guided my hand to her private parts, leading it to her vulva and rubbing it. It felt less like I was having sex and more like I was being devoured by three people; my brain couldn’t process it all. The pleasure Ethelena gave me. The compassion Ichika offered. The stimulation Yohira demanded. I, with my shallow experience, couldn’t handle it all. I didn’t know how much time had passed; it felt like an eternity and an instant. In my state of sensory overload, I ejaculated into Ethelena’s vaginal canal. Ethelena cried out in pleasure, Ichika gave a congratulatory kiss, and Yohira let out a wet moan of pleasure. From there, my consciousness became hazy, and I simply indulged in the situation. I pushed Ethelena down and had Yohira and Ichika lick my coupling. I held Yohira down and had Ethelena and Ichika lick me. I embraced Ichika and had Ethelena and Yohira stimulate me. The four of us spent a decadent night.
”…No, I’m really sorry.”
I bowed deeply in front of Ethelena, Yohira, and Ichika. All four of us were naked.
”No, Tatara, you shouldn’t be the one apologizing!?”
”It’s our fault for calling Ethelena-sama, thinking you wouldn’t be satisfied with just Yohira and me, degozaru…”
”It was also my fault that my pheromones excited everyone. Tatara, please lift your head?”
They each spoke to me as I knelt, but my guilt only grew.
”Ethelena, one question.”
”Yes, what is it?”
”Are you all wearing clothes?”
”…No, we’re naked.”
”Then I can’t look up.”
I can’t lose my reason by looking at the three of them first thing in the morning. I have work assigned by the City Mayor and the Merchant Guild Master to do.
”Could it be that Master… gets excited seeing our naked bodies, degozaru?”
”You’re energetic for this early in the morning…”
”Don’t underestimate a young body. Besides, with ‘Sex Sorcery,’ I recover faster than normal people.”
”Ahaha… you’re deepening your connection with me to satisfy me, aren’t you?”
Ichika understood, so I replied with a defiant statement, but the guilt remained. It would have been easier if they had scolded me, but their kindness made me want to die.
”If we don’t wear clothes, Tatara won’t be able to look up, so let’s go change.”
”That sounds like a good idea, degozaru. Master, please go ahead and prepare breakfast, degozaru.”
As if they had switched gears, Yohira and Ichika left the bathroom after saying that. What am I doing having a 4P in the bathroom until morning?
”Tatara.”
”Um, Ethelena-san?”
As soon as we were alone, Ethelena called out to me and moved closer. Could it be that Ethelena isn’t satisfied yet? Surely not.
”…Let’s continue, shall we?”
It was exactly that. I might die this morning.
After finishing a harmonious marital sex session with Ethelena in the morning, I went to the living room. I was surprised I wasn’t flustered, and when I looked at the kitchen, Ichika had finished cooking with Cornremu.
”Sorry I couldn’t help, Ichika.”
”Sorry, Issan. We were just having some quality time as a couple.”
There was a huge difference in temperature between my apology and Ethelena’s unnecessary remark. Ichika turned around and smiled.
”Please don’t worry about it, you two. Ethelena-sama, there’s no problem because I told you in advance, degozaru.”
Oh?
”Ethelena-sama has been yielding to others lately, degozaru. She might be accumulating pent-up frustration, so she needs time alone with Master, degozaru.”
Hmm, I didn’t realize she had been yielding to others. At least, it feels like there were more days I was with Ethelena in the past few days than not.
”Yohira also wasn’t in any condition for training today, degozaru, so it’ll be ready soon, degozaru.”
”We were doing it all night, so I’m starving.”
As Ichika and Ethelena, with light steps, brought breakfast to the table, I watched Cornremu and carried over plates.
Am I the one who’s strange, or is the world? I found myself thinking philosophically.
”So, Tatara, what’s your schedule for today?”
After breakfast, Yohira was the first to confirm my plans. Since the telepathic message to Tatia yesterday wasn’t heard by the others, I had to discuss it here.
”Today, I have work requests from the City Mayor and the Merchant Guild Master, so I’ll be going there. In the morning, I’ll head to the Metropolitan Magic Research Institute, and in the evening, to the Merchant Guild Headquarters.”
The City Mayor’s request is about the equipment for experimenting with medicinal solutions related to the Spell Formula for making hot sake that I gave her. My job will likely be to interact with the researchers at the institute and improve the equipment’s perfection. The Merchant Guild Headquarters is a bit unclear. It’s a direct request from the Merchant Guild Master, but it only says he needs help. It’s abnormal for the Merchant Guild Master to not write the details when making a request for the evening. I have to head there by the specified time.
”I see. If it’s a request from the city’s Central Administration, you can’t refuse, degozaru.”
”That’s right. If it were just decorations for the commercial district or the central area, the Golems could handle it, but if it’s something else, I have to go in person.”
Ichika seemed to understand, and I explained the reason. As a resident of the city, I sometimes get asked to help with decorations in the neighborhood.
”Then, shall we help out with the neighborhood decorations?”
”No, I’d rather you and Tatia gather divestatus up items and go level up. I’ll take care of all the city festival-related work myself.”
Honestly, I want Ethelena and the others to prepare for the 60th-floor攻略 after the city festival. I’ve prepared the equipment, but it’s not so easy that we can clear it with just that. Well, the defensive aspects are mostly no longer a problem.
”In that case, Tatara, may we have our equipment?”
”Ah.”
As Yohira requested, I handed them their respective equipment. They immediately equipped themselves and checked their status, looking astonished.
”…This is too much, isn’t it.”
”It looks like overkill, doesn’t it…”
Yohira and Ethelena murmured. Well, the absorption of the four great attributes and the increase in basic status are indeed in an incomprehensible realm.
”…Shall we go out together when Tatia arrives? We can adjust the new armor while walking outside.”
”Don’t say ‘Tatara’ so casually.”
To be treated as ‘Tatara’ with this… what is my skill, I wonder.
Tatia arrived, and I immediately handed her the Inner Muscle Armor. The outer shell can be shared, so that remains the same. As I said earlier, we’ll finish the basic adjustments on the way to the dungeon.
”…It’s far more powerful than before.”
”Ah, I aimed for something that could compensate with equipment without needing to raise status with items.”
”Wouldn’t it be more efficient for us to sublimate our existence and then level up on the 51st floor and beyond?”
Yohira’s words have a point. In the game, after level 100 was unlocked, there was no status reduction, so some players completely ignored the intermediate stages. However, this is reality. We should minimize risks as much as possible, I think.
”Honestly, I want to avoid tackling the 51st floor and beyond with the same mindset as when I was just listening to the story.”
My words drew gazes from the members. In the game, I had information up to the deepest part, but since reincarnating, there were many situations where my knowledge didn’t apply. If that could become a huge bomb from the 51st floor onwards, I want to avoid all avoidable risks. The stakes are our lives. I have no intention of taking a bad gamble.
”…Then, we’ll postpone our sublimation of existence for now, won’t we?”
”Eh?”
I turned my gaze to Yohira’s words. Yohira, with a serious expression, continued.
”At least, as long as we have abilities that don’t reach the limit, we should avoid it. Like Ethelena, if we can acquire the ‘Steal’ skill and steal from the ‘undead king’ together, we should postpone sublimation until we have enough items to reach the limit.”
Yohira’s words were a method to eliminate risk to the limit. Since the fifth skill slot is also unlocked, it’s suitable for leveling up skills.
”Well, the next time I complete a skill, I’ll acquire ‘Steal.’ Then, we’ll have items faster, you know.”
Seeing Yohira’s confident yet optimistic smile, I sighed.
After parting ways with Yohira and the others, I headed to the Metropolitan Research Institute, the destination for the City Mayor’s request. Like the Royal Research Institute in my homeland, it’s a public research institute, and the internal facilities are based on those of my homeland, modified accordingly. I had only heard about it from the City Mayor, but today I would see it directly for the first time. Honestly, I’m excited. I immediately entered reception and went to the security office. I handed over the request form from the City Mayor and completed the procedures. I had to fill in my full name and address. The person I was meeting was requested to be written under the City Mayor’s name on the request form to prioritize confidentiality, so I complied. I expected them to be wary of bringing in recording media, but it seems they haven’t developed a culture of being wary of such things like research institutes in my previous life. However, in this world, there’s Inventory, which makes it impossible to bring anything in unseen, so it’s too difficult. The guard guided me to the laboratory, and after knocking, I entered. Inside, a researcher in a white coat was experimenting with their back turned to me.
”Excuse me, I’m here on a request from the City Mayor.”
”Ah, yes. Please wait a moment!!”
It seems the experiment was at a crucial point. I thanked the guard and he left without a word. Could he be part of the vigilante corps? His professional demeanor didn’t seem like that of a civilian. The researcher seemed to have finished their work, wrote something that looked like a report, and then turned to me.
”Yes, thank you for your cooperation today……?”
Turning around was a woman I recognized. No, it was Kalmia Scientia, my classmate.
”Nice to meet you… Scientia, you work here?”
As I greeted her, I casually asked that, mixing in some small talk. Scientia completely froze.
”I don’t quite understand why I was called here today, so if you could explain, I’d appreciate it… Are you listening?”
I waved my hand in front of her to check if she was conscious. Scientia, trembling like a small dog, started to speak.
”T-T-T-T-Tatara-kun!?”
”Yes, I am Tatara Julon.”
”W-W-What are you doing here!?”
”It’s a request from the City Mayor.”
”But, aren’t you the one who made the new Magic Device!?”
”Yes, I’m its developer.”
When I looked at her, the prototype Magic Device that adjusts temperature, which I gave to the City Mayor, was placed there, and some kind of chemical was being heated and manipulated. Perhaps it’s stabilizing the reaction by keeping it at a constant temperature? Scientia took a while to process my words, and her reaction was delayed.
”Developer…?”
”Yes.”
”Eh, this innovative experimental equipment?”
”Ah, it was a byproduct of making something else originally.”
”…No way…”
She seemed to be in disbelief, as if her common sense had been overturned.
”So, if there are any improvements or changes you’d like to make to the Magic Device, please tell me. It’s just a thought, so feel free to suggest any convenient functions.”
”Hya!”
She made a strange noise when I spoke to her. It hurt a little, but I endured it and spoke to her.
”…Scientia, I want to confirm something.”
”Hihyu!”
”Do you understand how this Magic Device heats and cools the target?”
This was a gamble, a test and a means of communication. Asking a researcher about their understanding of magic principles is a double-edged sword.
At my words, Scientia’s eyes gleamed. Well, it worked, but I might have messed up.
”This adjusts the temperature by interfering with the molecular motion inside the target using the ‘Acceleration’ Spell Formula, increasing or decreasing its speed… It’s a next-generation experimental apparatus.”
She answered fluently, as if her previous panic was a lie. It’s a little scary.
”Unless it’s something whose efficacy changes with Mana reactions, it’s the best Magic Device for experimenting with heat retention or the effects of temperature differences on various liquids. It can instantly switch between extremely high and extremely low temperatures… I can only thank you, Tatara-kun.”
While slightly backing away from Scientia, who spoke with a suspicious smile like a mad scientist, I asked about the Magic Device’s shortcomings.
”…What are the current complaints?”
”Operability. There’s a difference between the target temperature and the actual temperature, and fine-tuning is difficult. It took me three hours with the manual to be able to use it.”
As Scientia said, I first created the base Magic Device for modification. For the temperature adjustment function, I incorporated a status display using ‘Appraisal,’ similar to Hanger, and programmed the Spell Formula to update according to the temperature adjustment. The dial for temperature control was further divided into finer stages for more precise adjustment, and red and blue arrows were drawn to indicate the direction of temperature increase or decrease.
”Here’s what I’ve incorporated based on your requests. It’s a bit makeshift, but would you try it?”
”Why can you make it in just a few minutes?”
She looked at it with disbelief. The City Mayor also made a tsukkomi, so this reaction is understandable.
”I’ve been offered the position of next Chief Crafter, so this much is normal. Come on, try it quickly and give me your feedback.”
”I’m curious about the information you’re withholding…”
Urging the grumbling Scientia, I had her try the Magic Device. At first, she seemed hesitant, but after operating it for a while, her expression changed completely. She thoroughly examined the responsiveness of the finer dial and the current temperature management, the parts I had modified. She placed a beaker of water on the Magic Device for testing and continuously checked the internal conditions. After about 10 minutes, she asked for fine-tuning, and I complied. It’s fun to complete something collaboratively like this. Scientia, as a researcher, has the knowledge and skills to articulate her detailed requests, so the adjustments proceeded smoothly. After about 30 minutes, the Magic Device’s improvements were complete.
”It feels like the operability has become quite sensitive, but is it okay?”
”This is a place where some of the highest-class researchers in the city gather, so making it responsive is the right choice.”
”Isn’t it contradictory that the result is professional-level sensitivity when the problem was operability…”
I confirmed with Scientia, but her response was the opposite of what she said before, and my head started to hurt. However, the temperature display and adjustment are much easier now, so it should be possible to collect more detailed research data. In terms of research advancement, I think I made a significant contribution to this request.
”Oh, you’re already working on it?”
A familiar voice came from behind Scientia and me. Turning around, the City Mayor was standing there as expected.
”Ah, good morning, City Mayor.”
”C-C-C-City Mayor!?”
My normal greeting, due to being accustomed to it, and Scientia’s extremely flustered reaction created a stark contrast.
”Good morning… Did it finish already?”
”Well, it’s based on Scientia’s requests, but if we’re talking about tailoring it to each researcher, I’d have to charge extra for the commission.”
”I won’t let you do that. Besides, who would allow such a cheap sale of technology?”
The City Mayor approached, saying that with a voice that was neither exasperated nor angry. She looked at the Magic Device. She was probably assessing its performance using ‘Appraisal.’
”…You’ve significantly improved the operability. It’s a bit too sensitive, but the advantage is that you can control the temperature more finely.”
”It turned out this way based on Scientia’s requests. Also, a major change is that I added a status display using ‘Appraisal’ for temperature and quality control.”
”You really do attach inexplicable functions, don’t you?”
”Th-th-th-that!”
Scientia, whose consciousness had completely drifted off, restarted and spoke to the City Mayor.
”Tea, immediately!?”
”No, don’t worry about it. I’m not here to be entertained, but to hear your opinion on whether Tatara Julon’s new Magic Device is suitable for mass production.”
At the City Mayor’s words, Scientia’s expression changed. I genuinely liked her ability to switch gears so quickly.
”May I give my personal opinion?”
”I can’t think of anyone who could give more valuable input than the person in charge of testing. Please tell me.”
”First, I would like to state that mass production and implementation should be carried out promptly. Based on my estimates, if this Magic Device is deployed in each department, the increase in research speed can be expected to be at least 16%.”
”…That much?”
”Yes, including changes due to elapsed time, the scope of research that can be conducted will expand explosively. This Magic Device, which allows for simultaneous confirmation of multiple effects, thus enables multiple research projects to proceed. While one researcher can only focus on one direction, the number of tasks they can perform simultaneously increases, which directly translates to increased efficiency. Although there are few problems, I recommend its implementation.”
Scientia and the City Mayor continued their conversation fluently. I was impressed by Scientia’s excellence in instantly producing figures of influence, even if they were just estimates, and I was happy to be evaluated by such a genius. Regardless of whether she inherited the blood of an original character, Scientia’s own aptitude is commendable. She correctly evaluates and utilizes the Magic Device I created… This sense of exhilaration is something only a Crafter can experience. Crafting is indeed the best.
”Oh, Lumi, and City Mayor?”
Just then, a female voice came from the entrance of the laboratory. Looking over, I saw two figures. One was a tall, thin man wearing a white coat, and the other was a woman with long, wavy hair… no, a pervert.
”Mom!?”
”What are you wearing, you pervert! Have you no shame, you damn fool!?”
Scientia’s scream and my angry shout were almost simultaneous. No, a woman wearing only a white coat over her underwear is nothing but a pervert… Ah, the man next to her is nodding.
”…Let’s keep that kind of attire at home, shall we?”
”What are you talking about, Tarchis? There’s nothing shameful about my body?”
”Think about the fact that the attire itself is shameful, okay?”
The man called Tarchis was cautioning the pervert. The impact of the pervert next to him was so strong that I hadn’t noticed, but her ears peeking out from her long black hair were long and pointed. It seems she’s a creature of the night… She looks somewhat familiar, even more so than Scientia next to her? And the woman Scientia called mother does indeed look familiar. She must be the daughter born between that god-slayer and the witch. This is definitely trouble. The mother of Scientia, wearing a red lace undergarment at an extreme angle, a garter belt, and stockings, entered the laboratory with her white coat fluttering, bra-less. I involuntarily averted my gaze; the wind threatened to lift her coat and expose her nipples. Someone, save me from this hell.
”You’re the boy Lumi was talking about, aren’t you? Tatara-kun, is that right?”
”Yes, I am Tatara Julon. Please, I beg you, maintain some distance and adjust your attire.”
I spoke to Scientia’s mother, who was addressing me while I averted my gaze, almost pleadingly, but it was as if she completely ignored me. Scientia’s father looked at me with a truly apologetic expression. Is he always henpecked?
”Sorry for the late introduction. I am Lilith Scientia, the Vice Director of the Royal Magic Research Institute. And I also happen to be Kalmia’s mother.”
”I should introduce myself as well. I am Tarchis Scientia. I am the director here and Kalmia’s father.”
I received introductions from Scientia’s parents, but I couldn’t face them. Given Mother Scientia’s attire and her husband standing next to her, it would be too rude.
”To reiterate, I am Tatara Julon. I am a second-year student in the advanced education department, working as a shopkeeper for ‘forgeron’ and the next Chief Crafter.”
”Oh, if you’re going to introduce yourself, at least look at the person you’re talking to.”
”That’s because Lee is wearing something that’s poison to the eyes of young people, so you should be the one to be careful, not me.”
I received a tsukkomi for my greeting, but Papa Scientia defended me. Good, he’s sensible. However, looking again, Papa Scientia also seems familiar. It’s as if he’s a combination of characters from past works. Creatures of the night with black hair… it seems to fit, yet it doesn’t. His features are gentle, like my own royalty, but he’s more like the magic-obsessed enemy I initially faced.
”Vice Director Scientia, please pay more attention to your attire.”
”Oh, City Mayor, there is nothing shameful about my body.”
”Please stop it, because the person walking next to you feels embarrassed.”
I couldn’t help but object to Mother Scientia’s words while looking at Papa Scientia.
”Hahaha… It’s okay, I’m used to it.”
”My heart goes out to you.”
Her eyes are dead.
”Oh, Tarchis, you like my body, so you must be happy to see it all the time, right?”
”He doesn’t like other men looking at me. It’s good that Julon-kun is a gentleman and considerate, but if it were a normal high school boy, he would have been staring at me.”
Scientia looked complicated seeing me try to avoid looking at her mother. It’s understandable that she wouldn’t want her mother to be looked at strangely.
”Anyway, Scientia, you agree to use my Magic Device here at the institute, right?”
”Yes. I think Tatara-kun’s Magic Device is highly valuable for implementation.”
”I see… Are there any problems?”
”Um… the amount of Mana required. Compared to other Magic Devices, it consumes extra Mana.”
Scientia answered fluently to my and the City Mayor’s questions, and we both fell into thought. Mana Stones to secure Mana; at this scale, the facility would consume about one medium Mana Stone per day. If that increases significantly, the City Mayor would also hesitate.
”Director Scientia.”
’Yes.’
”Ah, um… Director Tarchis Scientia.”
Both parents reacted simultaneously, and I ended up calling him by his full name. What should I do?
”What is it, Julon-kun?”
”What is the daily Mana limit allowed for this institute?”
”Hmm… It’s four medium Mana Stones per day.”
”Honestly, is that enough?”
At my question, Papa Scientia gave a wry smile. He probably couldn’t say it in front of the city’s highest authority. Alright, I’ll create a debt.
”City Mayor.”
”Yes? I have a bad feeling about this.”
”As an experiment for city-wide operation, I propose the introduction of my household Mana Reactor, starting with multiple facilities centered around this institute.”
’Household Mana Reactor’
At my words, the Scientia family reacted.
”…You’re going to introduce that?”
”It might require consultation with the finance department, but I am confident that research will advance as a result of this introduction.”
”That may be true, but do you know how much that costs for overseas sales?”
”I’m not asking for full payment. Maybe a 50-year installment plan.”
I might not even live that long.
”Excuse me, but what is the output of that household Mana Reactor? Since it’s called household, it’s probably not that large?”
”In terms of simple Mana volume, it can power about 1200 ordinary households for a day.”
”Household?”
At my words, Papa Scientia muttered as if involuntarily. Well, hearing only the output, it makes sense.
”I call it household because its size is such that it can be placed in an ordinary home.”
”That’s the scale used for the power source of a small aerial battleship.”
Tarchis said with a wry smile.
”Lumi, is your boyfriend so far removed from common sense?”
”At least, he can incorporate requests into new Magic Devices in about 10 minutes.”
”I see, so this is what people mean by ‘Tatara-ing,’ huh?”
Wait, is that a common saying?
”However, making something so valuable must take time, right?”
”No, from creation to installation, it takes about 30 minutes. Including the work to lay Mana conduits within the institute, it will be finished in an hour.”
’One hour’
The City Mayor and Papa Scientia’s voices overlapped. Since I built two houses in two hours, modifying the internal conduits from the Mana Reactor should be finished in about that time.
”Also, Tatara, has your Crafting speed increased again?”
”If I craft with Golems, we can divide the work, so it can be done much faster.”
”Really, you…”
The City Mayor muttered resignedly as I pressed on.
”City Mayor, since it’s planned to be introduced to the Central Administration and the Central Hospital eventually, let’s conduct an experiment here once.”
”…Haa, yes. Having more operational data is better.”
The City Mayor relented at my words. I inwardly did a victory pose and immediately started working.
”Well then, I’ll quickly make the Mana Reactor and head to the power installation. Director Tarchis Scientia, if you have it, please provide the institute’s floor plan. If not, I’ll ask for permission to use ‘Appraisal’ on the institute.”
”Ah, yes. Please wait a moment.”
Papa Scientia, who agreed to my request, left the laboratory. Next, I confirmed with Scientia.
”Scientia.”
’Yes?’
”…Kalmia, I’d like to borrow a place to put things.”
”Ah, then please use this workbench.”
”Thank you.”
When I called her by her surname, Mother Scientia also reacted, so I had no choice but to call her by her name, but it felt strangely off. Ignoring that, when I confirmed with Scientia, she lent me a large workbench. I immediately took out the materials and first created the ‘Alchemist’s Egg.’ Then, I reinforced 10kg of copper plate into reinforced copper and began crafting the household Mana Reactor. As declared, I finished crafting it in 10 minutes and waited for Papa Scientia. After a short while, Papa Scientia returned, out of breath.
”Sorry to keep you waiting… but, the Magic Device is really done.”
”It was amazing. Starting from combining over 1000 Mana Stones, he finished it in 10 minutes.”
”I see, that’s ‘Tatara-ing,’ huh?”
Even Papa Scientia says so, but I received the floor plan. It’s a rather large building with 2 floors above ground and 3 floors below, totaling about 100 rooms.
”The Mana Reactor will be near the center of the 3rd basement floor.”
”Yes, and please include Tatara-style defense functions.”
”Understood.”
I input the read floor plan into the Magical Word Processor and decided on the Mana Reactor’s installation location. My opinion was accepted by the City Mayor, and I wrote on the floor plan outputted from the word processor.
”Sorry, but could you draw a little more Mana conduit here and here?”
At that moment, Papa Scientia pointed and made a request. While marking it, I looked at him and he explained.
”These two places are mandatory routes to the center. If we draw more conduits, we can increase our interception facilities from here.”
I agreed with his explanation and increased the conduits to four times the normal amount. Then, I showed the plan to install intermediate relays and distributors for each section and created those two Magic Devices. The design was completed, and I immediately started working.
”Wait, Tatara, are you going to do that now!?”
”As the saying goes, ‘strike while the iron is hot.’ I’ll finish it quickly… ‘Come out!’”
In front of the City Mayor, who tried to stop me, I commanded the Golems in my Inventory. Then, starting with the leader, Golems appeared one after another, filling the laboratory, so they began lining up in the hallway.
”Eh… 100 Mithril Golems?”
”Cute.”
While Mother Scientia looked aghast, Scientia, stroking the head of a small Tatara nearby, murmured.
”From now on, we will perform minor renovations on this institute. Everyone’s task will be to install conduits and intermediate relays and distributors to supply Mana from the power room on the 3rd basement floor to each room, as shown on this floor plan.”
’Ta-!’
’Did it speak!?’
Seeing me and the Golems interact, the parents involuntarily exclaimed. Meanwhile, Scientia’s eyes sparkled.
”This is the floor plan. Leader, memorize this and direct the other Golems.”
”Ta!”
”Well then, be safe!”
’Ra!!’
In response to my command, the Golems, carrying reinforced copper wires, scattered throughout the institute. It should be fine, probably.
”Well then, Papa Scientia, please guide me.”
”Ah, yes… yes?”
Papa Scientia responded lightly to my request, then tilted his head. He seemed to have a question.
”What’s wrong?”
”I thought I heard a strange way of calling just now…”
”Did you?”
”Could you call me again?”
”Eh, Director Tarchis Scientia…?”
”Hmm, was it not him?”
He seemed to have thought something about how I called him. It’s long, but there’s nothing I can do about it. And then, guided by Papa Scientia, I entered the central room on the 3rd basement floor. It was a storage room, but with the help of the small Tatara who was with me, we immediately cleared it out and converted it into a power room. While reinforcing the walls with magically-infused concrete mixed with Mana Stones, we continued the work of channeling Mana throughout the facility using reinforced copper wires. As a result of cooperating with the Golems and Papa Scientia, the institute’s renovation was completed in just under an hour.
”…It really finished in an hour.”
”At least, don’t ask anyone other than Tatara to do the same thing, okay?”
”Honestly, I don’t want to make enemies of the craftsmen~desuwa.”
When we returned to the laboratory, Mother Scientia and the City Mayor were having such a conversation.
”With this, research should become a little easier.”
”It’s not just a little easier, it’s on a whole different scale.”
Papa Scientia replied with a wry smile to my words. It’s not noticeable, but we’ve done extensive work on the institute, so it’s understandable.
”Well then, Scientia.”
’Yes?’
”…Kalmia, I’ll have you arrange for additional Magic Devices later through the City Mayor. It seems there are budget issues.”
”Tatara, talking about budget when you’ve left behind an item worth 5 billion is hollow.”
”In that case, I’ll donate it under my name to the institute.”
”You really…”
The City Mayor sighed at my words. Scientia seemed to be enjoying watching us.
”Tatara-kun, thank you for today.”
Scientia expressed her gratitude with that expression.
”Don’t worry about it. I was able to advance the development of Magic Devices, and above all, it was a request from the City Mayor.”
”Even so, you know.”
Seeing Scientia smile while hiding her mouth, I felt a sense of déjà vu. What is it?
”Also, Scientia, since your surname is long, please call me by my given name. Nicknames are fine too?”
”No, that’s…”
”You seemed to have trouble calling me by my name when your family was all here today. So, call me whatever you like?”
Seeing Scientia’s expression, I sighed, knowing I couldn’t escape.
Kalmia or a nickname. Come to think of it, she was called Kara or Lumi.
Then it should be Kara──
<p style=”filter:blur(1px);”>[Tatara-kun]</p>
<p style=”filter:blur(1px);”>[What’s wrong──]</p>
A voice and a name flashed in my mind. For some reason, my heart fluttered, feeling compelled to call out that name.
”Tatara-kun?”
<p style=”filter:blur(1px);”>[Tatara-kun?]</p>
”No, it’s nothing, Mia.”
That name slipped out naturally. Scientia’s eyes widened greatly upon hearing it.
”Sorry, if you don’t like it…”
”No, if it’s Tatara-kun, Mia is fine.”
Mia, with a face that looked like she was about to cry, said so.
