”Yuna has grown strong. She can live on her own now without relying on me, her older sister. That’s why I’ll use this Guardian Contract: Metatron to protect you, Shin. Because I am here.” Schuna insisted, her voice dripping with possessive fervor.
Oh, look at this girl, shamelessly borrowing some classic, dramatic line¹. Was she just trying to ditch the fight and let Yuna-chan handle it? Shin mused with a wry smile.
”…Schuna-chan, I can’t let you get away with that. I’ll undo this seal for you, so go on and fight hard! Honestly!” Shin chided, though his exasperation was light.
A soft, magical chime, Popopopo-pon!, filled the air.
”Myaaah! Wait! Shin… what are you doing to me there? …Shaunyaah²! I, I’ll go get ’em!” Schuna squeaked, her face suddenly flushed with embarrassment and surprise.
”Go fight, I said. Go on, strong one of the Lax Empire. Teleportation Magic: Solo!” Shin commanded, immediately sending her away.
”…Master. What was that round, squishy object?”
”Oh, this? It’s kind of a control magical tool made specifically for Schuna-chan.”
”A control magical tool? A secret treasure of the Lax Empire?”
”Yep… wait a minute. Yuna-chan and that Sid person… did they run off to the Rigesh River on the Regain Kingdom side? …Well, in that case, let’s sneak into the Lax Empire right now. We can use this gap they made.”

”…As expected, I’m still being pushed back in a one-on-one fight,” Yuna murmured to herself, grit hardening her voice.

”A new Master? What nonsense is that? Never mind that, you’ll be coming back to the Lax Empire now. Prepare for the Brainwa—!”
Whoosh! Before he could finish his magic, a figure appeared.
”Shin is so mean! Why would you abandon meeee! Guardian Protector!” Schuna cried out in a heartbroken wail.
”Schu—Schuna Elder Sister?! Why are you making an appearance at this exact moment?!” Yuna exclaimed in shock.
CRACK! Schuna’s barrier deflected Sid’s attack with a sharp sound.
”I came to save my precious little sister, Yuna!” Schuna declared, though her eyes were dangerously unfocused.
”Th—That’s definitely a lie! Your eyes look diseased! I can tell you absolutely just didn’t want to be away from that Master of ours, Schuna Elder Sister!” Yuna challenged, her gaze sharp with immediate suspicion.
”…I truly wanted to settle this before the sisters were together,” Sid sighed, irritation lacing his command. “At this rate, the fight will drag on until the Descent Festival.”
”Too bad, Sid. This is a request from our new Master. Prepare to be defeated.” Schuna smiled, a terrifying possessive light in her eyes.
”…Yes, even if it is against my own will, and truly unfortunate for me, I must stand against you, Sid-san,” Yuna stated formally.
”You… You both truly betrayed the Lax Empire! I will give you the divine punishment on behalf of Lady Serah! Flame Forged Punishment Blade!” Sid roared in outrage.
”…It’s no use. Not against you now. Guardian Mirror.”
”Don’t think for a moment you can break through our combined defense and offense!” Yuna announced with newfound confidence.
”……This power of theirs… What is this? ……Darkness’s?” Sid wondered, completely baffled by the source of their new strength.
A massive DOGOOOON! of impact echoed across the river.

This place was the dark counterpart to the brilliant white Holy Capital. A black altar, black candles, and black chalices decorated the space. The most insidious and cursed place existed within the Holy City.
”No… Please, no… Pope-sama. Have mercy on us…”
”We did nothing wrong. We are innocent.”
”For the Heavenly Messenger, we need prayer and a sacrifice…” The robed figures chanted in unison.
”Hah!“
THUD… SLASH!
””Gyaaahhh…!”” Screams of agony erupted.
”Ohohoh… The sweet, lovely screams offered to the Heavenly Messenger… simply the best…” Serah giggled, her voice filled with sadistic delight.
”Pope Serah-sama, I apologize for interrupting your ceremony (hobby), but the person (thing) in question is about to arrive in the Holy Capital.” Eugenio Lax announced, his face a mask of subservience.
”Kih! ……Understood. Then, once they arrive, we shall grant them an audience right away. My sacrifice for my pleasure… no, not my sacrifice, but the Holy Maiden (sacrifice) for the Descent Festival, to ensure the prosperity of the Lax Empire.” Pope Serah, the Supreme Leader of the Lax Religion, spoke, her red eyes gleaming with avarice.
”Yes, everything is as Serah-sama (Lax Empire) desires… (I will absolutely get my revenge someday… you fake)” Eugenio Lax, the First of the Eight Holy Cardinals, thought, his inner monologue cold with vengeance.
