Chapter 69 The Saintess Rescue and Dark Nova Catastrophe in the Sacred City
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Honestly, though. Jeez. Hey, you, the guy who looks like a Holy Knight captain, got a second?” Shin drawled, his voice carrying over the murmuring, starving crowd.
”Whaaa—oh! W-woah! Mary, you’ve gotten so thin!” the captain-like man wept, dramatically embracing the anxious, thin young man.
”F-Father… Shin-san is talking to us,” the young man nervously pointed out.
”Huh? Who’s that, then?” the captain-like man asked, blinking.
”This is the Lax Empire’s food supply for a while,” Shin explained, pointing to his storage. “Please, distribute it throughout the whole country while I’m busy finishing off, uh, Pope Cera or whoever that is.”
A booming, rattling sound erupted from the Storage Charm, echoing across the starved streets.
A massive cascade of grain and preserved goods poured out, a veritable avalanche. Shin had deployed a monumental bounty. He had released enough food to feed the citizens of the Lax Empire for several months. All of this was thanks to the Religion of Shin’s people… no, thanks to Lala-chan going absolutely crazy and farming for years now.
The booming, rattling sound intensified, the grain pile growing higher.
”Father… that’s an incredible amount of food,” the anxious young man breathed out.
”H-H-Hiii! This is unbelievable!” the captain-like man gasped, his eyes wide with shock and relief.

(Seraphim Grand Cathedral)
My name is Lala Eushuria Melektorc. Today, I, as a member of the nobility, will be killed by the head of the Lax Empire, Pope Cera.
”…The outside seems noisy. Did something happen, Lord Ayle?” Pope Cera inquired, his voice falsely calm.

”…I don’t know,” Yugio of the Celestial growled, suspicion heavy in his tone. “It might be that Sid fellow returning.”

”The other Eight Sacred Lords are quite late as well. I am worried they may have been caught in some sort of trouble,” Catoria of the Blessing voiced his concern.

”Hehehe… it matters little to me,” Pope Cera cackled, a manic edge returning to his voice. “When the time of the Advent comes, as long as the Saintess of Lax and the Holy Scriptures are present in this country, the ritual can still be performed. Yes, it can certainly be performed. Isn’t that right, you missing, traitorous Lala Eushuria Melektorc?”
”…Yes, Your Holiness, Pope Cera.” Lala replied, her tone strained and fearful.
”Ah-heh! …Well done,” the Pope praised, his unnerving laugh echoing slightly. “You have acknowledged your sins of your own accord. I shall commend you! Ahahaha!”
”Ah, thank you so much, Your Holiness, Pope Cera,” Lala mumbled, her politeness sounding automatic.
Th-this is terrifying, desuwa… the person right in front of me isn’t the actual Pope Cera… Shin-sama. I’m going to be killed by this person today…
”…Lord Yugio. Doesn’t Pope Cera seem strange today? He’s usually a lot more tempestuous, isn’t he?” Catoria whispered, his gaze fixed on the Pope.
”The Saintess Lala has returned, so I suppose he’s managing to maintain his self-control… that impersonator,” Yugio muttered back, his suspicion deepening.
”Impersonator?” Catoria questioned softly.
”…No. It’s nothing at all…” Yugio dismissed.
Hmph! So that old lady isn’t human, huh? Shin mused to himself, watching from a distance. In that case, there’s no problem if I just smash him to bits, right?
”Catoria. Did you just say something to me?” Pope Cera snapped, his unnatural composure breaking instantly.
”? No. I haven’t said anything at all,” Catoria replied, his tone slightly bewildered.
The Sacred Lords were talking among themselves. Had something happened? Lala suddenly noticed the change in the air. This aura… could it possibly be?!
”The Great King of Darkness—come to my hand! Tremble in fear! This mark of black flame sorcery… Dark Nova!”
A deafening, explosive thunder ripped through the cathedral, shaking the very stone.
”?! What was that?” Yugio shouted, spinning around.
”T-The whole Grand Cathedral is exploding?!” Ayle cried out in shock.
”I’ll protect His Holiness, Pope Cera…” one of the knights declared.
”Ahahahaha!! …Huh? Did something happen?” Pope Cera questioned, his voice suddenly vacant before a new wave of realization hit him. “Nnnn? My sacrificial Saintess! Lala Eushuria Melektorc has vanished from the altar!”
”Oh yeah, it absolutely did happen, you bet,” Shin called out, his voice sharp and full of righteous anger, as he stepped into the light, Lala already clutched safely by his side. “If you just try to snatch my exclusive D-M Saintess-chan, well, of course I’m going to get mad enough to surpass the Rage of Heaven!”
”A-A-Aah… S-S-Shi—” the Pope stammered, finally recognizing his tormentor.
”Yep. Thanks for waiting, Lala-chan. I’ve come to fetch you,” Shin announced, his voice softening just for her. “Let’s go home together—to our place, yeah?”
”Shin-sama—I’M SO GLAD YOU CAME, DESUWA!” Lala cried out, throwing herself onto him in a sudden, desperate embrace.
”Woah! Gross! Lala-chan, you’re getting snot on me. Can you let go, please?” Shin complained, pulling back slightly.
”H-how awful, desuwa! But I’m so happy you came to save me, desuwa! Shin-sama!” Lala wept happily.
”Mhm. Good, good. Now, we’ll just exterminate everyone trying to stop us from leaving, and then we can get back safely,” Shin stated, his tone turning cold as he looked at the Sacred Lords. “Away from this fanatical Lax Empire, you know… Oh, but wait, the festival was supposed to start first, wasn’t it? The Festival of the End festival…”

Summary:
The chaotic rescue of the Saintess Lala from the Seraphim Grand Cathedral has begun! With the starving city now flooded with miraculous food from Shin’s Storage Charm, the Lax Empire is distracted and its authority is crumbling. Inside, a desperate Lala, terrified of being sacrificed by the manic Pope Cera (who is, as suspected, an impersonator), finds hope in the sudden, shocking arrival of her protector. Shin bursts onto the scene, not with a quiet entrance, but with a mighty Dark Nova explosion, immediately challenging the Eight Sacred Lords and reclaiming his beloved Saintess. The villainous heir is ready to wipe out all who stand between him and his escape, turning the Advent celebration into a bloody Festival of the End.

Character Insight:
Shin’s actions in this chapter reveal the core of his personality: he is pragmatic, strategically generous (using the food to create political chaos), and intensely possessive of Lala. His casual dismissal of Pope Cera and the Sacred Lords, along with his immediate and very loud deployment of a Dark Nova, proves he does not fear this powerful Holy Empire. The brief moment of tenderness he shows Lala—before complaining about her snot—underscores their bizarre, emotionally charged relationship, a key dynamic of this Isekai fantasy.

Behind the Scene:
This chapter is the climax of the invasion of the Sacred City. The immense amount of food that Shin dumps onto the city streets isn’t just to be nice; it’s a calculated move to cripple the Empire’s ability to control its citizens through famine, ensuring that the knights and soldiers are too busy with relief efforts and managing the mob to stop his rescue mission in the Cathedral. The explosion is the official signal that the protagonist has arrived and the main conflict is now live.

T/L:
1 The narrative voice shifts here as Lala, a character who typically uses the first-person pronoun watakushi (a very formal, noble way of saying ‘I’ or ‘me’), reflects on her dire situation before the rescue. ↩
Notes:
• Lala – Delusional saint candidate from the Lax Empire who becomes fanatically devoted to Shin, founding a religion in his name and often speaking with the quirky suffix ‘~desuwa’
• Sera – the top figure of the Lax Empire’s church, currently possessed by or being a tool of a darker force. He wears white and gold papal robes and has a gaunt, manic appearance with crazed eyes. He is smugly preparing for a ritual using Lala as a sacrifice. His personality is unstable and menacing, focusing solely on the success of the ‘Advent’ ritual.
• Ayle – the No. 6 Holy Paladin of the Lax Church’s Eight Holy Lords (Seiibitsu no Ayl). He is a young man in simple white religious robes with an earnest expression. He is a minor supporting figure inside the cathedral, representing the slight concern over the external situation.
• Yugio – the No. 1 Holy Paladin of the Lax Church’s Eight Holy Lords (Tenmon no Eusio). He is a mature man with severe facial features, dressed in imposing church armor. He is cautious and serves as a check on the Pope’s increasingly erratic behavior, though he remains loyal to the Church’s system.
• Catoria – the No. 5 Holy Paladin of the Lax Church’s Eight Holy Lords (Shukufuku no Katria). She is a mature woman wearing ornate blue and white religious vestments. She is gentle and expresses concern about the missing Holy Lords and the Pope Sera’s unusual temperament.
