Chapter 91 A Villainous Heir’s New Route and the Golden Forest’s Fairy King Dilemma

(The Golden Spring)
”What is the meaning of this?” an unseen voice thundered. “Why were they allowed inside?”
”This goes against our will. What is that one thinking?” another voice spat.
”We must hurry, or it will be stolen from us. It’ll all be meaningless if we lose it, especially after we lured them out and made sure they followed the correct marker!”
”What do we do? What do we do?” cried a frantic voice. “My revival can’t be known yet. If it is, they’ll surely counter me!”
”Then let us kill them before they can find the feather, and then we shall secretly revive. After that, we’ll go underground and wait for the time to come.”
”First, let us kill that one. We must kill the traitor.”

The mass of flesh fragments shrieked as one, and then they all plunged into the golden spring.

(A Strange World)
”Huh? Where am I?” I wondered, blinking. “I’m sure I went into the spring with the shopkeeper, didn’t I?”
”…The Golden Sea of Trees?” Karentisia murmured. “No, it’s too sparse for that. It looks more like a plateau, perhaps?”
Elmia groaned, clutching her head. “I feel all dizzy and woozy!”
”Nya-nya… why did you bring us to such a strange place, nya-a?” Silvia mewed, looking around with a wary gaze.
Karentisia-chan and the others were close by, which was a relief. The surroundings were strange: a vast expanse of grassland and sparse foliage, with one small wooden shack sitting in the middle. The landscape felt oddly artificial, like a piece of terrain that didn’t belong.
”Bocchan. Bocchan… are you alright, Bocchan?” the shopkeeper’s voice called out, full of unsettling concern.
”Shopkeeper? Oh, thank goodness. You’re safe, too,” I sighed, feeling a wave of relief.
”Ihihihi! Indeed. Thanks to you and your companions, Bocchan…” The shopkeeper let out his chilling chuckle. “Bocchan, I have just one small favor to ask of you. Would that be acceptable?”
”Eh? What is it?” I asked, already guessing. “Is it the Golden Feather?”
”Oh, as expected of my Bocchan. You understand perfectly, don’t you? In that case, might I trouble you to open the door to that shack? My true objective is most likely inside there.” The shopkeeper, a bizarre smile plastered on his face, pointed toward the shack’s door.
”In that shack? Got it. I’ll open it right away. Let’s go together, Shopkeeper.”
”Ihihihi! …Thank you so much, Bocchan.” The shopkeeper’s disturbing laughter echoed slightly.
”What?! Hold on! Wait a minute, you idiot!” Karentisia snapped, completely exasperated. “Can’t you see how suspicious this shopkeeper is? Why are you agreeing so easily… Ugh! You’re already opening the door!”
Elmia looked at me with a mix of fear and disbelief. “…He’s so reckless, he is!”
”Nya-nya. He’s not wary of that person at all, nya-a,” Silvia observed with a worried twitch of her ear.
I stepped into the shack with the shopkeeper, and Karentisia-chan and the others followed right behind us. Inside, the place was simple: four chairs, a large table, and… a small box sitting on top of the table.
”…It’s a very simple house, Shopkeeper,” I commented, looking around the small, dilapidated room. “It’s practically empty and falling apart.”
”Yes. This was the starting place for myself and that person, you see. Our first home, filled with fond memories. Ihihihi.” The shopkeeper chuckled again, his voice tinged with dark nostalgia as he scanned the room.
”Your objective is this, right?” I asked, gesturing to the small box.
”Oh! Yes, exactly, exactly!” he exclaimed. “You found it so quickly, Bocchan… Thank you! Ihihihi!”
He smiled at me, an unsettling expression that seemed to promise trouble.
”What are you planning to do with it?” I inquired, my tone becoming serious. “That’s the Sacred Artifact, ‘The Golden Feather of the Fairy King,’ isn’t it? One of the Seven Great Sacred Artifacts.”
”…Yes, Bocchan. We finally found it, thanks to all of you. We have finally succeeded in getting it back.”
”And what will the shopkeeper do with it now?”
”Hmm, a good question…” The shopkeeper leaned in slightly. “Bocchan, I promised you a Sacred Artifact in exchange for finding this golden feather, did I not? So, I shall hand this over to you.”
”Are you sure? I thought we were supposed to be enemies?”
”Ihihihi… Yes, but we haven’t actually fought yet, have we, Bocchan? No, Seyfried-san.”
”N-no, that’s not right! Your Majesty!” Elmia cried out, frantic now.
”Nya-nya. That’s right, nya-a! If you do that, that person will be furious, nya-a!” Silvia added, panicking alongside Elmia.
Elmia-chan and Silvia-chan’s panic confirmed it: they must have been working with the shopkeeper.
”…From now on, the two of you must follow Karentisia-san’s orders,” the shopkeeper commanded, his unsettling smile unwavering. “Also, Bocchan, I shall pass on all the tools I’ve collected over the years to you. Please use them effectively when things inevitably become violent.”
”If you do that, you’ll vanish, won’t you? Oberon, the Fairy King of Calamity.”
”…Ehh? The Fairy King? That shopkeeper? No way!” Karentisia gasped, her shock evident.
I couldn’t blame her; it was a ridiculous thought. Who would believe that this unnerving man, the shopkeeper, was the King of this small, golden forest world?
”…How do you know the Fairy King’s name, Shin, you idiot?” Elmia stammered.
”Nya-a… did he know the whole time, nya-a?” Silvia whispered.
”Ihihihi. So you had figured it out, then.”
”Yes. From the very beginning…” I responded quietly. “Did he take control of your body?”
”Yes… by my closest aide, no less. I was advised to become the world’s Calamity, and when I refused, I was betrayed. My body was then stolen, and I was reborn in this form.”
”By the fairy Puck… also known as Robin Goodfellow?”
”…You know even that much?” Oberon asked, a true trace of surprise in his voice. “Yes. That subordinate destroyed my wife, Titania, my retainers, and even this world. While he rampaged, I managed to tear off the feathers from his back and his outer skin, and I cast him out into the external world.”
”And once he was outside, did he start to rot the Sea of Trees and turn the fairies and demi-humans living there into discarded fairies?” Karentisia asked, her sharp mind making the connections.
”As expected of the daughter of the Phoremus Clan. To deduce the answer to this entire incident in such a short time is truly impressive.”
”So, you couldn’t handle him anymore and asked that person for help?” I asked, knowing the score. “Even though you’re enemies. You led me here to force me to defeat the rebel, didn’t you?”
The image of that person—the one sipping tea elegantly in the Regain Kingdom’s castle—flashed in my mind. Honestly! To drag her son into such a major incident! What a terrible mother!
”…That is correct. He must be defeated before his growth is complete. If not, this world will surely be destroyed.”
”The world will be destroyed? Hold on… Please wait a moment, Fairy King. What do you mean by that…?” Karentisia asked, utterly bewildered.
It was at that exact moment that the bad guy arrived. He tore a hole in the wall of this tiny, secluded dimension—a wall that should have been absolutely impossible to breach by any normal means—and forced his way in.
CRACK… CRASH!
”WAAAAAAAAAH! Why is the King of Lost Paradise acting so high and mighty? Give it back, give it back, give it back! Give the golden feather you stole from me—the true Fairy King—back to me, Oberon! I’ll slaughter everyone! I’ll slaughter every single one of you who cooperated with Oberon!” The sound was monstrous and echoing.
It was a terrifying, throbbing mass of insects and corrupted, rotting flesh. It appeared suddenly from the golden sky, shrieking and roaring like a monster.
”See? If you fall to the dark side, even the shopkeeper would end up looking like that,” I said cheerfully, offering a lighthearted joke to ease the tension. “Good thing you avoided that, huh?”
My joke was not well received.
”Aaaah! That disgusting bug!” Karentisia screamed. “Stop saying stupid things, you idiot! Eliminate it immediately! Eliminate it! Get into a battle stance!”
”…That wasn’t the promise! You said you would save us and our clan!” Elmia cried out in terror.
”Nya-a… his body can’t even hold its form anymore, nya-a. That’s gross, nya-a!” Silvia shuddered, trying to hide.
”…Ihihi. I can’t maintain this form for much longer myself,” Oberon admitted sadly. “Would you kindly defeat both my corrupted body and the traitor here, Seyfried-kun… no, Bocchan?”
Oberon, the Fairy King who I was supposed to have fought and antagonized in Karentisia’s route, was now asking me for a favor.
…In the original Maidens x Cross-dressing routes, this event never happened. This was an original route completely unknown to me. How could I not accept?
”Yeah, I’ll do it,” I agreed instantly, a determined smile on my face. “I’ll take on that request, Oberon-san. I, Shin Seyfried, the villainous heir, will do it.”

Summary:
The strange journey through the Golden Spring throws Shin, Karentisia, and their companions into an unnaturally formed dimension. Here, the suspicious Shopkeeper—revealed to be the exiled Fairy King Oberon—confronts Shin about a stolen Sacred Artifact. Oberon admits his betrayal by a subordinate, Puck (Robin Goodfellow), and manipulates Shin into a new, unexpected adventure to defeat his corrupted body and save the world from imminent destruction. The fantasy showdown begins immediately with the monstrous entry of the rage-filled, insect-mass form of the true antagonist.
—
Character Insight:
Shin Seyfried, the villainous heir, demonstrates his greatest strength here: his ability to remain composed, charming, and perceptive even when faced with immediate danger and a massive plot twist. He quickly processes Oberon’s manipulative plan and embraces the emergence of a non-canonical ‘original route,’ showing his determination to conquer the game’s fate. His lighthearted demeanor in the face of the disgusting monster highlights his emotional resilience in this high-stakes isekai setting.
—
Behind the Scene:
This scene establishes the true nature of the Golden Sea of Trees’ decay and introduces the main threat: Puck, the traitorous fairy. It fully shifts Shin’s story onto an ‘original route’ that deviates from the expected Yuri RPG narrative of Maidens x Cross-dressing, confirming that his presence has fundamentally altered the game’s course. The Fairy King, initially a potential end-boss, is now a resigned ally, setting up a climactic boss battle immediately following this conversation.

T/L:
¹ The use of triple brackets `[[[]]]` for the collective shriek is a common narrative convention in this genre to denote a unified, overwhelming sound or declaration, often from a monstrous or powerful entity. ↩ ² The image is placed here to capture Shin’s pivotal, determined moment of accepting the quest, setting the tone for the coming battle. ↩
Notes:
• Silvia – Another one of the ‘Hidden Eroins’ from the original game, her full background is not revealed in this chapter, but she is highly protective of ‘Karen’ (Karentisia) and recognizes the Protagonist’s Sacred Artifact. She is easily angered and speaks with an intense, aggressive cat dialect.
• Oberon – The former Fairy King, currently appearing as the ‘Mysterious Shopkeeper’ but revealing his true identity. He is a wise, cryptic figure who helped Seyfried eliminate a future threat at the cost of his physical form.
