Volume 5 Chapter 2 Misaki’s Determination꞉ The Full Disclosure of the Gift’s Intimate Recoil
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Wait… where did Hirose go?”
”Hmm, I think he said he was heading toward the field…”
”Okay, I see.”
The next day, Misaki had planned to talk to Hirose during lunch break about the issue that had been nagging at her since yesterday. However, she found his seat in the classroom empty. After asking a nearby male student where he went, she was told, “He headed toward the field.” Hearing the reply, Misaki got up without hesitation and pushed the door open.
”…Misaki too? Tch. What the hell’s going on? I’m an E-Rank Adventurer! What’s so great about Hirose, anyway?”
The student who’d told her where Hirose went was one of the few high school adventurers in the school. He was high on the class caste system and usually surrounded by girls. But Misaki didn’t care about his title or his ego. Her focus had always been purely on tennis.
”—Hirose, what are you doing here?”
”Huh… oh, Misaki-san. This? I have work for the beautification committee after school today. I’m scheduled to lead it, so I’m just getting ready.”
Misaki found Hirose near the water fountain by the field, checking the locations on his smartphone and taking notes.
”I have to clean all the water fountains outside the school today. So I’m checking their spots and getting the cleaning tools ready.”
”…Do you have to do that right now?” she asked.
”I could do it after school, sure… but hey, there’s no point rushing around once the time comes, right?” he reasoned.
”You’re a weird guy.”
”Haha, well, I like doing it,” he shrugged.
Misaki was utterly confused by this brief exchange. No one was watching this work. Even when the beautification committee met later, no one would know he’d prepared beforehand. Yet, he was doing this for everyone without being asked—that, she realized, was exactly the kind of person Takanashi Hirose was.
”So about—”
Just as Misaki was about to broach the main topic, a shadow approached silently from behind him.
”Ugh… Hirose-senpai is hanging out with another girl… this is why I call you a playboy…”
The speaker, Kozuka Rio, was a kouhai (underclassman) with slightly sharp eyes who had been transformed into a beauty by Hirose’s Gift. She was a close friend of Aoi and also on the beautification committee.
”Hey! Stop saying that in public!” Hirose hissed.
”Wouldn’t it be better for the world if fewer people fell into your wicked clutches, Senpai?” Rio retorted.
She said whatever she pleased. And she wasn’t particularly close with Misaki yet, causing a nervous sweat to bead on Hirose’s forehead.
”Hmm. So Hirose really is a bad guy. Hanging out with beautiful girls, so that’s what they meant,” Misaki observed, narrowing her eyes.
”Misaki-san!? Don’t believe everything she says!” Hirose pleaded.
”But it’s the truth, isn’t it?” Rio insisted.
”Rio-chan!? Seriously, stop it… she’s just a classmate I barely know…”
It was Rio’s friend, Aoi, who had coined and spread the ‘playboy’ rumor. Now, Rio was flawlessly passing the message to Misaki—a perfect game of telephone.
”Hehe, I’m sorry. Senpai is always surrounded by cute girls, so I can’t help but tease him sometimes… Oh, and if you’re doing beautification committee prep, you should have told me! I’d help you.”
”I’m not going to involve a kouhai during her precious lunch break. Aren’t you eating with Aoi?”
”Well, I was going to… but I was just walking down the hall and saw you, so I just came by.”
”Rio-chan, you’re so kind,” Hirose said warmly.
”Tch! N-Nonsense! I’m not kind at all! See ya!”
With a red flush spreading across her cheeks, Rio scurried away as if she were fleeing. Misaki watched her retreating back and commented softly,
”…Hirose, you really are well-liked.”
”Did you really see that in that conversation?”
”She looked like she was having fun, despite calling you a playboy… did you, maybe, sleep with her too?”
”—I-I would never! She’s my underclassman!” Hirose stammered.
”You’re bad at keeping secrets, aren’t you.”
Misaki didn’t miss his momentary pause. When she pointed it out with narrowed eyes, Hirose hurried to deny it. He had done it, but he couldn’t admit that here.
”Hehe… I feel like I’m starting to figure you out, Hirose.”
Watching the interaction with Rio, Misaki was beginning to grasp his personality. It hadn’t changed much from her initial impression, but even more than that—she saw a face that was definitely too kind, almost foolishly good-natured.
”—Is that all you need?”
”Ah, yeah. Thanks… but you didn’t have to help me this much.”
The two of them were now in the supply closet to gather the cleaning tools for the beautification committee task. They were currently setting up the necessary tools in their respective buckets for the teams cleaning the water fountains. Misaki had gone out of her way to help Hirose with his preparations.
”Since I came all this way, I wouldn’t feel right just standing around… Anyway, about yesterday… is that talk of ‘Mole Removal’ true?”
”Yeah. It’s true. I’m telling you this because I trust you won’t tell anyone, Misaki-san—I have a Gift called ‘Beauty’.”
He could have used Kairi’s ‘Pledge’ skill to secure her silence, but based on Misaki’s character and behavior so far, he judged she wouldn’t spread the information deliberately.
”‘Beauty’… isn’t that a pretty amazing Gift?”
Just the name of the Gift was enough to send Misaki’s thoughts racing.
”Yeah… I have several skills within it, and ‘Mole Removal’ is one of them. I learned it recently, and I haven’t actually used it yet.”
”Oh… wait, is that why you have so many cute girls around you!?”
”Well… something like that,” Hirose admitted.
”I see… that makes sense. I thought you were unremarkable, so I wondered why… but now I get it.”
”You’re just outright insulting me,” Hirose replied, sighing.
All the questions Misaki had been holding quickly clicked into place. Why were so many beautiful girls around Hirose? Why did they deliberately seek him out in the classroom without him making the first move? The reason was now clear.
”But… just having a Gift wouldn’t be enough for that, right? Is it still your personality that makes them act that way?” she wondered aloud.
”…Do you believe that I actually have this skill now?”
”The pieces… fit together,” Misaki acknowledged. Having heard this much, Misaki couldn’t afford not to believe him. Still, she hadn’t asked about how the skill worked.
”—And this next part is really important, so I need you to listen carefully.”
”O-Okay…” Misaki held her breath. Hirose was making a grave face, even though he was only supposed to be giving an explanation.
”To activate ‘Mole Removal,’ I have to touch the area directly. The duration… it’s shorter than before, but still about six minutes. And we need to do that six times, a few days apart.”
”So… during the skill, you’d be touching my thigh?”
”Yes… but I still don’t have a relationship of trust with you, Misaki-san. You shouldn’t have to let someone like me touch your thigh, logically, right?”
”……”
Everyone he had treated before had hesitated the same way at first. But most eventually agreed that if they could fix a lifelong insecurity—they could endure being touched for that purpose.
”And there’s one more thing.”
”Wait, there’s more?”
”Yes… while the skill is active, the skin becomes highly sensitive, and the body heats up.”
”Um… come again?”
”It becomes sensitive, and it heats up,” he repeated, maintaining his sincere, unsmiling expression.
”S-Sensitive? What happens if I get sensitive?” she asked, blinking repeatedly.
”Steel yourself. Every person I’ve treated, without exception… ends up making strange noises.”
With those words, the remaining dots finally connected for Misaki.
”C-Could it be… that everyone just melts under your touch!?”
”I know it sounds weird coming from me… but that’s what happens,” Hirose confessed, unable to look her straight in the eye now. Misaki’s cheeks were now faintly flushed.
She’d never had a boyfriend, but she wasn’t completely inexperienced with attraction.
”The risk of this side effect exists in exchange for improving a person’s insecurity. So, if you decide to receive the treatment, I need you to fully understand that one thing.”
(He didn’t have to tell me about this Recoil. He could have just kept quiet. But Hirose told me everything. He showed me his honesty…) She now understood why those beautiful girls treated him so warmly. It wasn’t a fake smile. They truly trusted and were drawn to Hirose. It wasn’t just the Gift—this man possessed something else that drew people to him. Misaki was struggling internally.
”…Think about it for a while. We’re in the same class, so you can tell me anytime.”
”I understand…”
Saying that, he brought the conversation to an end, and they started to leave the supply closet—just then.
”Ah!”
Misaki’s injured leg snagged on a leaning broom. This caused the other cleaning tools to fall toward her simultaneously.
”Misaki-san, look out!”
”Kyaa!”
A cloud of dust was swept up, slowly clearing away. There was Hirose, shielding Misaki’s body from the falling cleaning supplies.

”—Ouch.”
”H-Hirose! Are you okay!?”
”I think so… More importantly, are you okay, Misaki-san?”
”Thanks to you, I’m fine, but…”
”Good. It would be terrible if you couldn’t compete in the tournament, so I’m really glad you weren’t hurt.”
”——”
(…Our faces are so close. I can hear his breathing. And his skin is clearer than mine… is this also the Gift’s Effect? His hair is so smooth, and that faint good scent…) Hirose helped Misaki up and brushed the dust off her uniform. Then, he checked on her once more with a worried look.
”Are you really okay?”
”I’m fine.”
”I see…”
A strange, delicate atmosphere hung between them. Misaki’s eyes trembled as she spoke.
”—Hey, if the mole is gone, will I be able to wear a swimsuit? Or go to hot springs and pools… And if I ever get a boyfriend… will I be able to show him my body without feeling ashamed?”
The questions were directed at herself, yet Misaki addressed them to Hirose.
”…Actually, I know someone who had a similar problem. They couldn’t wear the clothes they liked, they hid their skin even in summer, they skipped swimming class, and they gave up on romance. But—”
”But what?”
”After the treatment, they wore whatever they wanted without worrying about anyone, and their whole personality brightened up.”
He was talking about Koharu and Kirino. As soon as their insecurities vanished, their world seemed entirely different. The procedure had drastically changed everything for the better.
”Yeah. Yeah…”
Listening to Hirose’s gentle tone, Misaki solidified her feelings. And then—
”—I’ll take your treatment, Hirose.”
She had made up her mind to receive the ‘Mole Removal’ procedure.

Behind the Scene:
This chapter is the climax of consent. The narrative builds Misaki’s trust through observation and Hirose’s honesty before hitting her with the full truth of the Gift’s intimate side effects. Her decision is not one of ignorance but of brave acceptance—she knows the sexual risk but chooses it for the sake of her lifelong dream of being free from her insecurity. This sets the stage for the highly intimate procedures to come.
Notes:
• Kozuka Rio – Aoi’s best friend. She has a neat, precise look with side ponytail black hair and is slightly shorter than average. She was initially friendless, making her connection to Aoi incredibly important. She is highly suspicious of Hirose and what he’s done to change Aoi, viewing him as a threat.
• Rio – A member of the Beauty Committee who previously worked with Hirose and already holds a negative opinion of him, seeing him as a ‘playboy.’ She has short dark hair and is dressed neatly in her school uniform. She is Aoi’s friend and is currently determined to ‘rescue’ her.
• Kirino – Strikingly beautiful with blue long hair (F, 168cm), Kirino is gifted with ice magic and feels isolated because of her appearance. Hirose’s Beauty skill helps her improve her self-image and social comfort, directly affecting Kirino’s relationship with her family and classmates.
