”H-hey, Kento,” Tania pleaded, her pointy ears twitching, “don’t push yourself, alright? I’m totally happy with the relationship we have now. V-verily, I understand. An Elf woman is a heavy burden for an Only Human like me. I won’t promise to change your diapers when you’re a senile old man, or take care of your great-great-grandchildren for all time, or even to guard your grave for the several hundred years until I die! I won’t say those things!”
”Alright, alright,” I soothed, petting her gently, “let’s just enjoy the present without worrying too much about the future, yeah? I’m not planning on dying for a few more decades, and I’ll leave you all sorts of magical items. If that’s not enough, I’ll even get reborn and come back to see you.”
”The Rite of Soul Reversion² is forbidden magic, though! Please, just rest peacefully when the time comes…” Tania murmured, looking deeply troubled.
As I calmed her, it was clear she was expressing some kind of intense, hard-to-understand love. I gently rubbed her pointed ears, making them go piko-piko. I hadn’t dared to touch them outside of—activities—before, thinking it might be rude. But since my future life and post-mortem peace seemed guaranteed, I figured I’d touch them as much as I liked.
”Oh, Sister,” a cheerful voice cut in, “you look just like a well-trained doggy! That’s wonderful, just wonderful!”
”‘Doggy,’ huh?” I wondered, turning to the newcomer. “What do Beast-people think about that sort of thing? You know, animals that share traits similar to your own?”
”Huh? That’s a strange question, Shopkeeper. Some tribes are proud of their similarities, but I don’t really think anything of it,” Laika shot back, shrugging her shoulders. “Only Humans don’t consider monkeys to be their ancestors, right?”
”Ah, so Only Humans are kinda treated like monkey-Beast-people,” I noted. “But don’t the nasty people call dog-Beast-people ‘doggy’ sometimes?”
”Hmm, I don’t know about that…” Laika mused, her ears twitching. “There are certainly people who call Only Humans ‘those tailless monkeys,’ too. But maybe… is it possible some people enjoy the joke, or even act a bit like a dog when they’re teased?”
”Hmm, like if someone says ‘shake’ and you accidentally find yourself wagging your tail while giving them your hand?” I asked, intrigued by the Beast-people’s cultural values.
As I said that, two hands were placed onto my palm. One was Laika’s, and the other was Tania’s. Startled, I made Tania’s ears twitch again, and she closed her eyes, letting out a blissful, soft kwooon sound.
”N-no! This is different! I just… reacted without thinking, that’s all! Ah! Maybe, maybe you have the talent of a Tamer or a Monster Handler!?” Laika stammered, flustered.
”If Kento wishes to keep a female dog, I am not averse to the idea,” Tania stated calmly, accepting the new reality entirely.
”No, that wasn’t what I meant at all…” I groaned.
There was the completely flustered Laika, and the utterly accepting Tania. I couldn’t quite figure it out, but I found the whole situation oddly stimulating. Lily-san, please stop violently butting your forehead into my back! It hurts, it really hurts! Is something sharp sticking out?!
”Ahem. Anyway, Laika… how much has Tania told you? I actually need your cooperation with something.” I pivoted the conversation.
”Just call me Laika! You can call me Kento! I heard that Sister was helping with experiments and, you know, easily gave you her body. Oh, and that new product, the ‘Hot-Hot Ddo Buddy’ is amazing!” Laika responded, her tail beginning to wag.
”Ah, that thing…” I trailed off. “I actually wanted to ask you to ‘experiment’ with that one.”
I explained the recent events at the Royal Palace: the ‘Hot-Hot Ddo Buddy’ was banned, I was trying to use its heating function to create a warming magic item instead, and I had been asked to verify the effectiveness of the ‘Tremble-Dōdo-Buddy.’
Both women were extremely disappointed about the ban of the ‘Hot-Hot Ddo Buddy,’ but nothing could be done. As a thank-you for the ‘Fire Rat Fur’ gathering quest, I gave them a sample of the item. The talk then moved to the efficacy verification of the ‘Tremble-Dōdo-Buddy.’
”So, you want me to use the ‘Tremble-Dōdo-Buddy’ during my Heat period and let you watch…?” Laika asked, her tone serious now.
”Yes. I need a clear, detailed record that can persuade the Ministers at the Royal Palace and the Priests at the Church. Your name will, of course, be kept secret.” I confirmed.
”You’re just saying that, but you’re planning on consuming me right after Tania, aren’t you?” Laika shot me a suspicious, narrowed-eye look.
Yeah, I guess my credibility is shot, I thought. But I couldn’t let such an important collaborator slip away.
”No, not this time. I won’t add any unnecessary elements other than the ‘Tremble-Dōdo-Buddy’ until your Heat subsides, because I need a proper, scientific record.” I insisted.
”Hmm, I guess that makes sense. Okay, I’ll help with the ‘experiment,’ then.” Laika agreed easily.
”Huh, you will!?” I was taken aback by how quickly she’d agreed. If she had refused, I would have been in trouble, but to accept without any hesitation was almost too brave. Laika must have seen the surprise on my face, because she continued, a slight blush on her cheeks.
”It’s for the sake of my important Beast-person Association comrades, you know? I know people who can’t get the ‘Tremble-Dōdo-Buddy’ and are suffering, so I can’t let my gender down by just standing by!” Laika declared passionately.
”I see. Thank you, Laika. I owe you one.” I acknowledged.
”Yeah. Only… that Heat period is a bit of a problem.” Laika’s expression darkened slightly.
”A problem? I don’t actually know much about the Heat period. Could you explain it to me?” I requested.
”Oh, you don’t? Okay, I got you. So, first, Kento, do you know how often the Heat period happens?” Laika asked.
”Uh, most animals get it once or twice a year, so about the same?” I guessed.
”Zero difference, you are totally wrong! For most races, it happens about every month. And if you don’t do anything about it, the symptoms last anywhere from three or four days to a whole week. Only Human women have ‘periods,’ right? Think of it as something similar to that.” Laika explained with wide eyes.
”W-wait, it happens that often? That sounds incredibly difficult!” I exclaimed, amazed by Laika’s information.
I was astonished by the frequency Laika described with such heated breathing. I hadn’t realized all Beast-people struggled with something so severe. During my adventurer days, I’d often envied their innate physical abilities, but this was a shocking revelation.
Considering Laika’s explanation, female Beast-people obviously have both the Heat period and a regular period. If both last three or four days to a week, some women might be suffering from some form of discomfort for half the month.
”Exactly! That’s why everyone’s having such a rough time!” Laika threw her hands up.
”I see. Now I understand why the Beast-person Association meeting was organized so quickly and on such a large scale.” I nodded slowly.
”Yeah, yeah, it’s super tough. Every single month, we get hit with this crushing sexual desire we just can’t control. If we even catch a whiff of a male’s scent, our crotch gets wet and our holes just throb and squeeze,” Laika whispered, her ears drooping and her tail hanging limply.
She was rubbing her lower abdomen and her cheeks were slightly flushed, clearly recalling the symptoms of the Heat period. The air around us suddenly seemed to take on a pinkish hue, so I quickly tried to steer the conversation back on track.
”A-and on top of that, you have guys trying to mess with you while you’re feeling so terrible, which must make it even harder.” I offered.
”I know, right? If it was just our comrades, everyone would understand the suffering, so it wouldn’t be a problem… but the Only Humans find it funny, or try to exploit it, and then they shame us for being ‘lustful’ or whatever…” Laika sighed, her voice laced with bitterness.
”I… it feels strange for me to say this, but I’m sorry,” I apologized.
”Nah, I know not everyone’s like that,” Laika reassured me.
”But you know, about that problem I mentioned earlier… I’m actually one of the Beast-people who gets a relatively light ‘Heat’ period, though.” Laika admitted, looking slightly sheepish.
”Ah, so there are individual differences, like with a period,” I realized.
”Yeah, it’s the same kind of thing. So, I’m willing to help with the ‘experiment,’ but I’m worried that my record alone won’t be convincing enough.” Laika explained.
”My mistake. I didn’t think about that… I suppose I’ll have to visit the Beast-person Association again and recruit more cooperators,” I sighed, considering the implications.
That reminded me that Aerith from the Garou Merchant Guild had mentioned having particularly severe Heat periods. It wasn’t my favorite idea to be indebted to her, but asking her might be an option. The captain of the Merluza Royal Guards who testified might also cooperate, but that would also incur a debt, just like with Aerith. Then there was that cat-eared older sister who looked like a secretary… she was certainly to my taste, but…
No, I can’t let self-interest or ulterior motives get in the way this time. I decided. I would simply consult with them and ask anyone who agreed to cooperate.
”I think that’s a good idea. I’ll ask my acquaintances too, if I can.” Laika offered.
”Ah, thanks again. You’re a lifesaver.” I expressed my gratitude.
”Heh. Like I said, it’s for my comrades! Besides, if Kento, an Only Human, is putting in all this effort, I, a party directly involved, can’t just stand around slack-jawed, can I?!” Laika said, giving me a bright, determined smile.
Laika’s smile was dazzling, and it made me, who developed adult magic items purely out of self-interest, feel a little ashamed. I needed to refocus and redouble my efforts to make the re-release of the ‘Tremble-Dōdo-Buddy’ happen.
”So, speaking of the ‘experiment,’ when do you think you’ll be able to do it?” I pressed.
”Hmm, I just finished my period a little while ago, so it’ll probably be this week or next. There are always a few warning signs, but it comes on suddenly, so I might just barge in here without warning. Be ready for that!” Laika warned.
”Got it. I’ll be ready. Thank you, Laika.” I replied.
”You got it, Kento!” Laika returned, and we shook hands firmly.
However, at that moment, I knew practically nothing about the Heat period. Over the next month, I would come to understand the Heat period more than I ever wanted to…

He has dark hair and an unremarkable appearance, typically wearing a plain, slightly suspicious-looking shop owner’s clothes looks like Kazuma Satou from certain series. He has a minimal amount of magic power, enough to craft his specialty items.
• Tania – An Elf adventurer who, despite her race’s reputation for low sex drive, is secretly quite passionate. She initially seemed ‘wasted’ (emotionally dry) to her friend Raika, but was easily introduced to the pleasure-items sold at ‘Harvest.’ She is easily embarrassed and attempts to maintain a dignified facade, despite her recent, frequent purchases. She wears practical but light armor over a simple cloth tunic and short pants, highlighting her grace and agility. Her primary relationship is one of friendly senior-junior with Raika.
• Lily – the sl*ve and primary experiment subject for the magic shop, ‘Harvest.’ She has striking pink hair, Blue eyes, medium breasts, which the Protagonist associates with being ‘wanton’. She has a working knowledge of magic, which she kept hidden from the slave trader.
• Merluza – The Captain of the Royal Guard, a veteran soldier and Lion Beast-person. She testifies to the military necessity and effectiveness of the ‘Tremble Ddo-Buddy’ (which she calls ‘Bob’) for female beast-person soldiers, ensuring job performance isn’t compromised by ‘heat’. Have dull yellow hair, large feline ears, wearing armor, and large scar over the right eye.
• Aerith – A wolf beast-person and Ouka’s daughter. She is intensely attracted to Kento’s creative genius and is not shy about showing her interest. Have gray fur hair and tail, wearing elegant dress.
