Chapter 117 Secret Treasure Orbs and Future Policies
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Speaking of Secret Treasure Orbs, that’s it. The orb embedded in Cleonora’s magic sword, Miseric¹.
Cleonora didn’t have the talent for sorcery, but the story was that she could draw out the abilities of the Secret Treasure Orb. If I recall, that ability allowed for high-speed movement.
”Iris. What is the type and grade of the Secret Treasure Orb…?” I asked.
”The type is ‘Body.’ The grade is second grade, ssu,” Iris replied.
”Wh-at…!?”
”Even for someone related to a Councilor… a commoner possessing a second-grade Secret Treasure Orb…!?” Liliarette exclaimed.
Both of them are incredibly surprised. On the other hand, Ami-chan and I, whose knowledge of Secret Treasure Orbs is shallow, are completely lost.
”Um… if possible, I’d like you to tell me a bit more in detail about Secret Treasure Orbs…” I said.
”Ah… that’s right. It’s something unfamiliar to you, Shoichi,” Liliarette replied.
”To begin with, unless you’re a noble or a possessor of Magic Power, you wouldn’t be familiar with them… Secret Treasure Orbs are mysterious crystals that can only be refined in the Holy City of Ragnarond², ssu,” Iris added.
Various abilities are sealed within Secret Treasure Orbs. It seems only those who possess Magic Power and further have the aptitude can draw out those abilities.
Cleonora can draw out abilities from the Secret Treasure Orb of the magic sword Miseric, but this isn’t something just anyone with Magic Power can do.
”There are three major types of Secret Treasure Orbs. Those that enhance physical abilities, those that trigger phenomena like sorcery… or those that fall into neither category, ssu,” Iris explained.
Secret Treasure Orbs with sorcery-like abilities are type ‘Mind,’ those that don’t fit either are type ‘Skill,’ and those that improve physical abilities are type ‘Body’… It seems together they represent Mind, Skill, and Body.
All of these have grades, and the higher the grade, the higher the performance of the Secret Treasure Orb.
”So the Secret Treasure Orb Cleonora has is the ‘Body’ type, then,” I said.
”No. Mine is the ‘Skill’ type,” Cleonora replied.
”Eh…?”
”It’s certainly confusing since it allows for high-speed movement. But it’s not like my physical abilities themselves are improved,” she explained.
Apparently, it’s not that she can move fast as a result of increased physical ability. It’s simply the ability called ‘High-Speed Movement.’
”A second-grade ‘Body’ type allows for extremely high-level physical enhancement. To begin with, second-grade Secret Treasure Orbs themselves don’t circulate much, ssu,” Iris said.
”Is that so?” I asked.
”Yes. Basically, first-grade ones only exist in the Holy City of Ragnarond. Even then, there are few people who can draw out their abilities. Even second-grade ones rarely flow outside the Holy City, ssu,” Iris replied.
It seems the Holy City of Ragnarond possesses many such unique technologies.
Furthermore, every country desires Secret Treasure Orbs, and many countries reportedly dispatch high-ranking nobles to the Holy City every year to obtain them.
”They prepare various souvenirs and, while negotiating, occasionally have a Secret Treasure Orb passed to them. To obtain a second-grade Secret Treasure Orb, I imagine they must have put in considerable diplomatic effort and prepared a vast sum of money, ssu,” Iris added.
A second-grade ‘Body’ type. Those who can draw out the ability of this Secret Treasure Orb can reportedly gain the power to fight a large force single-handedly. They say a common sorcerer would be no match for them.
In the first place, those who can draw out that ability are rare, and looking at that alone, I understood well just how valuable a person that old butler was.
And yet, Vectra-san, who completely suppressed that old butler without even using her halberd while holding Iris, is just too strong…

”High-quality Secret Treasure Orbs and those who can draw out their abilities. These are indispensable in measuring national military strength. To think that a butler of a single merchant guild would possess such a Secret Treasure Orb…” Liliarette muttered.
”The Councilors of the Republic really are something else…”
But hearing that story strengthened my thought that the one putting pressure on us not to disclose Iris’s kidnapping is likely the Kelnar merchant guild³.
They have powerful individuals that even an old butler can’t touch, and they showed teleportation abilities. I suspect they’re thinking of whether they can negotiate somehow rather than becoming enemies…
By the way, the Holy City of Ragnarond is apparently not a country, but only governs a single town.
However, many who handle first-grade Secret Treasure Orbs are stationed there, and its military power is said to be something that can never be underestimated.
Furthermore, it’s said there is a bloodline that is the only one in the world capable of using recovery sorcery. Among the high-ranking nobles of various countries, some apparently have major injuries healed in exchange for a large donation.
They have many unique technologies, but all of them are kept strictly secret. No country can force them to listen, so they all act humbly and try to somehow get the leftovers… I suppose that’s the gist of it.
”I understand the situation. Well, none of it is confirmed information. For now, I think I’ll head out to the town again with some fruit,” I said.
”Eh…?”
”…I see. Watching the situation that way might be one option, ssu,” Iris replied.
At any rate, unless I settle the relationship with the town once and for all, I can’t even go to Japan in peace. Even though I want to buy new cosplay outfits…!
If Liliarette’s thinking is correct, there’s a possibility they are also considering seeking a relationship with us. No matter which way it falls, the conversation won’t move forward unless we make contact from this side.
After all, they can’t come to the depths of the Demon Forest⁴ from their side. As far as the opponent is concerned, if I don’t make contact, they can’t take any action. …No, wait.
”Come to think of it. When I came to this forest from the Kingdom, I was carried by a flying bird with a person on it… Is that creature not kept in the Republic?” I asked.
”That would be the demonic bird Skygoon⁵ and its rider, a Barnail⁶, ssu,” Iris answered.
”Ah… I see. Certainly, if they can handle a Skygoon, they can peek at our situation from the sky,” I muttered.
That’s right. I had been a little curious. It’s known to them that I live in the Demon Forest.
I thought that if they knew the location, they might come from the sky to see how things are.
Or rather, that bird had such a cool name…
”The demonic bird Skygoon only lets those who have opened their hearts onto its back… such beings are not common. There are fewer of them than those who can draw out abilities from first-grade Secret Treasure Orbs, ssu,” Iris explained.
”Is that so…?” I asked.
”Yes. There’s only one Barnail in the Kingdom… and I believe there was one in the Empire as well, ssu,” Iris replied.
It seems that man who discarded me in the forest possessed a considerably rare skill.
”Unless one is a Magic Girl, it’s impossible to fly through the sky, after all. Barnails are usually busy communicating information to various places and don’t often fly all the way to the Demon Forest, ssu,” Iris added.
”So for now, they won’t be flying over from the Republic,” I noted.
That bird was flying at an altitude higher than a Magic Girl and at a considerable speed, after all…
That man called a Barnail was also young, and since he had a rare skill, he must be getting a large salary.
Dammit…! So you’re succeeding as an elite while young…!? For some reason, anger welled up inside me.
”Then, as expected, we won’t be able to see the opponent’s move unless we go to the town from here…” I said.
”What about leaving things as they are?” Ami-chan asked.
”No. I want to make our relationship clear,” I replied.
I cast a glance at Iris-chan. If we leave the town as it is, she won’t be able to go there freely during her spare time.
I want her to stay by my side as a Slave of Love⁷ forever, and I want her to use her power as a Magic Girl for the sake of Ami-chan and me.
Seeking a relationship with the town is necessary to keep Iris-chan by my side for a long time.
Basically, I’ll have her wield her power in the Dominion⁸, but if something happens, she can go to the town. If I can bring it to this state, Iris-chan should work hard to be of use to me forever.
I’ve really learned a lot from her as a Dominator Quester⁹… I also understood feelings that surpass Affection Level¹⁰ and love.
Humans, depending on what sits on the scales, can take unexpected actions regardless of how much their Affection Level has risen, depending on their emotions at the time.
”I think I’ll try going starting tomorrow. The members will be Eme-chan and… just in case, let’s have Vectra-san come along,” I decided.

Summary:
Shoichi learns the significant military and monetary value of ‘Secret Treasure Orbs’ from Iris and Liliarette. He realizes the old butler he faced was an elite, making Vectra’s easy victory even more impressive. To secure his peaceful life and keep Iris by his side, Shoichi decides he must settle the diplomatic tension with the nearby town. He plans a trip to the town the following day, accompanied by Eme-chan and Vectra. The group also discusses ‘Skygoons’ and their rare riders, confirming no aerial threats are expected soon.

Character Insight:
Shoichi shows significant growth as a ‘Dominator’ by moving beyond simple stat-checking; he now understands that ‘Affection Level’ isn’t a guarantee of loyalty against all circumstances. His decision to reconcile with the town isn’t just for diplomacy, but a calculated move to ensure Iris’s long-term happiness and utility. He also reveals a petty, relatable side when he feels competitive anger toward the ‘elite’ bird-rider who once abandoned him. This blend of strategic coldness and human insecurity defines his current leadership style.

Behind the Scene:
The author notes that ‘Secret Treasure Orbs’ (Hihouju) have been mentioned in passing since very early in the series, but their mechanics are finally being fleshed out. The chapter serves as a bridge between the recent combat/kidnapping arc and a new diplomatic/exploration arc in the Republic’s town. The author also promotes their other work involving ‘Senjutsu’ and school monsters, highlighting the fan-service elements in the new volume’s cover art.
