Chapter 139 The Convent Ddo-Buddy Factory Project ③

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”Ah, here we are. Welcome to the Canarias Convent¹!” Amelia said.

 ”Whoa… Talk about a building with character…” I muttered.

Guided by Sister Amelia, the Canarias Convent I visited was, to put it kindly, a prestigious building where one could feel its long history—or to put it bluntly, a total shack. No, maybe that was going a bit too far…

It was a tall, single-story building with magnificent carvings in various places, making it quite a grand structure. However, the walls, roof, and fences were covered in repair marks, which didn’t look great. Moreover, those repairs clearly radiated an amateurish ‘we fixed this ourselves’ vibe.

 ”Hehe, please don’t be polite. It’s a worn-out, pathetic-looking building, isn’t it?” Amelia asked.

 ”No, well, I mean…”

Amelia didn’t seem offended by my honest reaction and spoke with a smile. I stammered, unsure of how to reply, but she didn’t look ashamed at all—in fact, she seemed almost proud.

”Our convent belongs to the ‘Ascetic Faction’², you see. During construction, we worked to make it unnecessarily sturdy and grand, but since then, we decided that if we had the time or money for such things, we should provide for the believers rather than ourselves. The result is this current appearance.”

”I-I see… I mean, I don’t intend to complain, but building it with so much effort just to let it deteriorate through hardship… isn’t that a bit too perverse…?” I asked.

”Hehe, not at all. It might seem like a pointless ‘asceticism’ at first glance, but when it was built, there were few people and no city walls, so it served to protect and reassure the people. And once people gathered and it became a large town, the sight of us spending our own resources without flaunting authority must have given many people a sense of trust. The noble ‘asceticism’ of our predecessors is exactly what we take pride in.”

”Ah, I see. That definitely makes the ‘asceticism’ worth it… Sorry, I said something disrespectful.”

”It’s fine. Even I thought, ‘Wow, what a wreck…’ when I first saw it, and frankly, I still think so now. However, we of the ‘Ascetic Faction’ do not live for the sake of looking good.”

In response to my apology, Amelia said this, still smiling. She added, “Of course, we pay enough attention to be distinguishable from those receiving our charity,” and fluttered her habit tailored from simple cloth.

She was still a young woman. She probably wanted to dress up more at times. But she said she didn’t live for appearances. Likely, this attitude applied to everything in her life.

I thought she was truly ‘noble’ in a genuine sense. Which only makes that ‘training’ appearance of hers all the more mysterious…

”Now, please come in, Kento-san. I believe everyone is waiting for you!” Amelia said.

 ”Yeah, thanks for the guidance.”

Following her lead, I entered the convent grounds and was led to the largest building. It seemed the interior was a chapel, but as expected, the inside also bore prominent marks of amateur repair work.

There were rows of built-in benches, and a few sisters were offering prayers toward a statue of a saintly figure. And the person I was looking for was also there, spending a moment in tranquility.

”Sorry to keep you waiting, Mother. I’ve brought Kento-san.”

”Good work, dearie-aan♡ Welcome to the Canarias Convent, Shopkeeper-san♡” Marian said.

It was Mother Marian, exuding her usual strange, heavy sex appeal. Her figure as she offered prayers didn’t look like a nun at all; from her ample breasts and hips to her overflowing purple hair, she was just pure eroticism.

”Yes, I look forward to working with you from today onward.”

”Hehe, I look forward to it too-waan. Who would have thought things would turn out like this after that whole Inquisition fuss?♡” Marian said.

Since we were official business partners starting today, I spoke politely. Yeah, I didn’t think it would come to this either. I gave a vague, wry smile and nodded, but she didn’t seem to mind.

”Now then, Sister Amelia, please go and call everyone who’s scheduled to handle the work. I’ll show the Shopkeeper around-waan♡”

 ”Yes, understood.”

At Marian’s instruction, Amelia bowed and left. I felt somewhat awkward being left alone with her so suddenly, but I followed her quietly.

”Don’t be so guarded, I’m not going to gobble you up or anything♡”

 ”Ah—sorry. It’s just a bit of a reflex…”

”Hmm, well, I suppose I’ll just have to make it up to you through our work♡ Now, this is the workspace. We just put some desks in what used to be the training room, but will this be okay?♡”

 ”Training room…?” I asked.

 ”Yes, the training room♡”

Marian smiled suggestively as we arrived at a small room. I wondered what kind of intense ‘training’ had been carried out here. I couldn’t help but be curious about the stains on the floor, but I managed to divert my consciousness and inspect the room.

”Yeah, I think it’s good. We’ll need space for materials and the finished products, so it might get a bit cramped…”

”Oh, is that so-waan. If it seems necessary, I’ll turn the room next door into a storage area♡”

”Yes, that might be best. At our place, we only keep the day’s worth of work in the workshop and store the rest in the warehouse.”

”Understood♡ Um, were the tools for the work supposed to be provided by you?”

”That’s right. Our staff has decreased, so we have surplus tools at the moment. However, if we ever want to increase production, I’ll have to ask you to share that burden.”

We continued discussing the business outsourcing. Matters like getting materials delivered directly here from the Tasogare Merchant Guild³, the products being sold through the Church of Demon-Subjugation and thus being transported from here to the Cathedral, and the profit distribution ratio.

Though, since these were things we had already exchanged letters about through Amelia, it was mostly just confirmation.

”Hmm, I’ll ask again, but are you really okay with these conditions-waan? Isn’t this a bit too favorable for us?♡”

 ”Eh, is it?” I asked.

”Yes. I was certain you resented me and would make us do something closer to slave labor♡”

”N-No, I wouldn’t do something like that. Amelia always takes good care of me, and this time you’re helping us out of a pinch. Besides, I don’t even resent you in the first place. Sure, it was a struggle, but you had your own circumstances, and thanks to that, I’ve made various connections.”

When I said that, Marian blinked in surprise. I wondered if she felt a sense of debt or lingering discomfort toward me on her end.

”To be able to brush that off as ‘having circumstances,’ Shopkeeper-san, you really are a softie-waan…”

”I don’t intend to be… But if you’re going to say that much, shall I change them to stricter conditions?” I asked.

Marian blinked again as I said it with a smirk. I’m the kind of person who lives on jokes and sexual harassment, but was it really that unexpected? Then, she smiled happily.

”Oh♡ How cruel, Shopkeeper-san. I’m good at being bullied, but don’t say things like that-waan♡ I’ll feel like I have to give you something in return♡”

 ”A-Ahaha, it’s a joke, just a joke…”

”Nfufu♡ Hmm, I can starting to see why that girl is so head-over-heels for you-waan♡”

For some reason, Marian licked her lips and leaned in close. Her sex appeal exploded. As I instinctively backed away, she moved closer by exactly the distance I had retreated.

Wait…? Is this one of those situations…? I was overwhelmed by a way of closing the distance—both physically and psychologically—that I hadn’t encountered before, and I was backed into a wall.

And finally, just as her explosive breasts, pushing up against her habit, were about to touch my chest—

 ”Excuse me, I’ve brought everyone.”

There was a knock at the door, and Amelia’s voice could be heard. Marian immediately stepped away and welcomed them as if nothing had happened.

 Summary:

Kento visits the Canarias Convent with Amelia to set up their new production line for Ddo-Buddy adult goods. He meets Mother Marian, who maintains her provocative demeanor despite being in a place of worship. They finalize the business contract, with Marian expressing surprise at Kento’s lack of resentment over past events. The chapter ends with a near-intimate moment between Kento and Marian interrupted by the arrival of the other sisters.

 —

 Character Insight:

This chapter highlights Kento’s remarkably forgiving nature, which Marian characterizes as being an ‘ojousan’ or a ‘softie.’ His ability to view the Inquisition incident as a series of ‘circumstances’ rather than a personal attack shows his pragmatic and non-confrontational mindset. Meanwhile, Marian’s reaction suggests that beneath her seductive exterior, she carries a degree of guilt or at least an expectation of karmic retribution, making Kento’s kindness even more disarming to her.

 —

 Behind the Scene:

The ‘Ascetic Faction’ (Kugyo-ha) mentioned by Amelia provides cultural grounding for why the convent looks so dilapidated despite its history. It serves as a narrative excuse for the ‘amateur repairs’ and the humble atmosphere that contrasts with Mother Marian’s overwhelming presence.

 T/L:

1 Canarias: Likely named after the Canary Islands, following the author’s trend of using European-sounding names for religious locations.

2 Ascetic Faction: ‘Kugyo-ha’ in Japanese. A sect that believes in self-denial and physical/mental discipline to achieve spiritual growth.

3 Tasogare Merchant Guild: ‘Twilight’ Merchant Guild. The primary trading organization Kento interacts with.

4 Church of Demon-Subjugation: ‘Majin-Toubutsu-Kyou’. The overarching religious organization in this world.

Notes:

• Amelia – The Sister of the Church of Demon-Subjugating, who usually buys from Kento, has light blue hair.

• Kento – The owner of the magic tool shop ‘Harvest,’ which discretely sells adult goods. He’s a former overworked, ordinary salaryman from modern Japan who was suddenly transported (isekai’d) to this fantasy world. He has dark hair and an unremarkable appearance, typically wearing a plain, slightly suspicious-looking shop owner’s clothes looks like Kazuma Satou from certain series. He has a minimal amount of magic power, enough to craft his specialty items.

• Marian – A ‘Mother’ and supervisor from the Church of Demon-Subjugation. Her appearance and demeanor defy the Church’s purported ‘chastity,’ instead she has wavy purple long hair, busty, black nun, tear mole under eye, and monroe walk. She has arrived with a clear purpose: to confront Kento about the ‘Devil’s Stick.
