Chapter 161 Begging for the ‘Ddo-Buddy’

The day after I went to see Lady Tina Badcage and ended up engaging in intense, night-long relations. I ended up staying until she was somehow able to stand up on her own.
As expected, I couldn’t leave the care of the young lady, who was covered in various bodily fluids, to the maids who had simply stepped into the room, let out a soft “Hee…” and collapsed in shock. I carefully put her in the bath, and in the meantime, had them somehow clean the bed and prepare a change of undergarments and clothes.
The maids’ gazes shifted to an atmosphere that seemed to be a mix of fear and intense curiosity, but as they watched me devotedly caring for Tina, they managed to return to a calm state.

Also, though I had left the house while Lily was pregnant, the retainers of the Badcage family were excellent and apparently got in touch with Aerith from the Garou Merchant Guild² and Sister Amelia. The three of them spent yesterday together, and I received a message from Lily saying, “Please do not worry about it.”

”Umu… It seems the military forces are evenly matched, but nothing specific. I am merely running around adjusting domestic interests and supplying materials and personnel as requested noja. I talked with the recovered Tina about the things we couldn’t discuss yesterday. In the end, I only found out that there are things we don’t know, but she had a slightly refreshed look on her face.
We also talked about the peerage, but that wasn’t much different from what I heard from my Master’s wife. Ultimately, it seems negotiating with Her Majesty the Queen is the best path. However, Tina said she would participate in negotiations if the time came. It’s heartening.
Instead of just a morning return, I was even treated to lunch before leaving the Duke Badcage estate. I could have just gone home, but I felt like looking into various things regarding the war. Especially the current situation of the Coalmine Kingdom⁵ and such. Perhaps there is something I can do as well.
With that, I arrived at the Tasogare Merchant Guild⁶. Ideally, I could speak with President Chromans of the “Beast-person Association⁷,” who has strong ties with the military, but he would surely be busy and I’d just be in the way.
In that regard, the Tasogare Merchant Guild isn’t directly involved in the war, and there’s a high possibility they have information through civilian trade networks. I’ve also become curious about the Coalmine branch I heard about before.
The Tasogare Merchant Guild faces the main street that runs through the Royal Capital. Stepping inside, as usual, muscular men are lifting and lowering cargo.
”Hello there, I’m Kento from the magic tool shop ‘Harvest⁸‘. Is Sera-chan here?”
I’ve become quite familiar here compared to when I first visited. Since starting sales to regional areas, I often come to have meetings about distribution. When I called out, a young employee I’d seen a few times responded.
”Oh, if it isn’t Mr. ‘Harvest’. Is it another meeting or something?” the employee asked.
”No, today is a different matter. I thought of it suddenly so I don’t have an appointment, but if Sera-chan or Badatt-shi are in, could I have a bit of their time?”
”That’s good timing. Sera and the manager are just in the back talking about something. It’s probably about your products, isn’t it?”
”That’s perfect, could you lead the way?”
”Yeah, this way.”
Sera-chan, who is in charge of our shop, and Manager Badatt-shi. The two of them have helped me out in various ways, and it seems they usually think about a lot of things. Feeling grateful, I let the employee guide me. Where the two are located seems to be Badatt-shi’s office.
”Manager, Mr. ‘Harvest’ is here to see you,” the employee said.
”Kento-san!?” Sera exclaimed.
”Well, well…! I was just consulting with Sera about whether we might be able to speak with you,” Badatt said.
Entering the room, I was greeted by the surprised faces of Sera-chan, with her usual “class president” style braids, and Badatt-shi, with his usual crooked merchant face.
No, looking closely, neither of them looks very energetic…. Especially Sera-chan; her complexion is as poor as Tina’s was yesterday. It seems they weren’t exactly having a pleasant conversation.
The man who guided me said, “Well, I’ll be off then,” and left, while I approached the two.
”Um, did something happen?”
”P-Please look at this! A message arrived from Gannet-san and Rigol-san!” Sera said.
”Hmm…? I feel like I’ve heard those names somewhere…”
”They are the employees we entrusted with the Coalmine branch,” Badatt explained.
According to the detailed explanation, Gannet and Rigol are a married couple who were employees entrusted with the Coalmine branch of Tasogare Shop. Both of them got married while training at this main shop and had finally been entrusted with the job.
In Coalmine, a neighboring country with which relations aren’t very good, talk of establishing a branch had appeared and disappeared repeatedly over the years, but they had struggled and made it a reality. They had hired local employees and were doing reasonably well there, but…

As someone who also runs a shop, that’s a chilling story…. Well, I’m glad they’re safe, but a few questions remain.
”I’m glad they are safe. But, what does that have to do with our shop?”
”It’s the ‘Ddo-Buddy’! The ‘Ddo-Buddy’! Apparently, the benefactor who sheltered them was a regular customer who liked the products from ‘Harvest’…!” Sera cried out.
”I also offer my thanks. Thank you very much for saving our precious employees…!” Badatt said.
Good news: “Ddo-Buddy” saves human lives. Or should I call it strange news…? I think it’s actually because this Gannet-san and Rigol-san were doing good business, but well, I’m glad our shop’s product was of help.
But it seems the story doesn’t end here. Badatt-shi continued with a difficult expression.
”And so, here is the request…. It seems the two are still in a situation that doesn’t allow for optimism. They are hiding while moving between several locations, but lately, it seems the gendarmes even visit the churches…”
”If we have the ‘Ddo-Buddy’, if we have the ‘Ddo-Buddy’, we can save them! Kento-san, please lend us your strength!” Sera pleaded.
”H-Hey, Sera! Asking like that will only trouble Kento-san!” Badatt interjected.
”Both Gannet-san and Rigol-san took great care of me when I started working here! And they just had a baby too…! For their sake, I’ll do anything…! Please, please, the ‘Ddo-Buddy’…!” Sera cried.
Hmm, did she just say anything…? Sera-chan, who usually never wants to say the word “Ddo-Buddy” herself, is now repeating it. I don’t quite see the full picture yet, but I have a reputation for being weak to the pleas of women.
Looking at Sera-chan as she pleaded with tears in the corners of her eyes, I found myself nodding along reflexively….

Her inexperience suggests a slender build, and her dress is likely formal and aristocratic, though not explicitly stated.
• Aerith – A wolf beast-person and Ouka’s daughter. She is intensely attracted to Kento’s creative genius and is not shy about showing her interest. Have gray fur hair and tail, wearing elegant dress.

He has dark hair and an unremarkable appearance, typically wearing a plain, slightly suspicious-looking shop owner’s clothes looks like Kazuma Satou from certain series. He has a minimal amount of magic power, enough to craft his specialty items.
• Chromans – President of the ‘Royal Capital Beast-person Mutual Aid Association’ and the manager of the ‘Grizzly Merchant Guild,’ a top-tier weapons and armor dealer. He’s powerful, influential, and very business-savvy. Have round, cute bear ears (sooty brown), bushy beard and hair (sooty brown), and large build with muscular physique under a expensive gown.
• Sera – A young, earnest salesperson from the Tasogare Merchant Guild, Kento’s supplier. She is characterized by her braided brown hair, large round glasses, and freckles. She’s serious about her job and easily flustered, especially by Kento’s adult goods business. Looks like Onodera from certain series.
• Badatt – The 7th-generation manager of the long-running Tasogare Merchant Guild. Despite his fat, oily, ugly bastard, have multiple rings appearance, he is a competent and respected manager who listens to his employees. He is a man of ‘good sense’ but is overwhelmed by the explicit nature of Kento’s products and the ensuing chaos.
