Chapter 108 Where We Aim Is Different. Farewell to You Both

 (Uncleared Forest Path¹)

Now that Karentisia-chan’s punishment is concluded, my lingering stress has finally dissipated.

Of course, immediately after being released from her ordeal, a rampaging Karentisia-chan retaliated with a flurry of back-and-forth slaps, effectively turning the tables of punishment right back on me.

While we were busy with that little comedy routine, it seems Alexia and Celia-chan managed to reconcile. Though, if they really made up, I have to wonder why Celia-chan’s clothes were left in tattered ribbons.

Since Alexia is right here beside me, clutching my right hand, I suppose I’ll just ask her.

”Alexia. Why exactly did you tear Celia-chan’s clothes to shreds? I really don’t think bullying is the way to go,” I said.

”…Shin-kun. I was merely conducting an infidelity investigation, nano,” Alexia replied.

”An infidelity investigation? What, against your own bridal candidates like Karentisia-chan or those two comedy-act girls? If any of those three were actually cheating, that’s simply inexcusable. Alexia, should I go and lodge a formal protest with them on your behalf?” I asked.

”The one who cheated was Shin-kun, nano~! Just what were you and Celia-chan doing together until morning, nano~?!” Alexia cried.

”H-Hey, cut it out, Alexia~! Don’t tickle me! Stop poking and prodding my body like that~!” I shouted.

”…Those two certainly are close, aren’t they, Lady Karentisia?” Celia asked quietly.

”Always have been… doesn’t matter where they are. They’re always flirting like that, just the two of them,” Karentisia muttered.

”Is that so… then Shin-sama and Lady Alexia are…”

”Well then, I guess this is goodbye for us, dayo. Karen~! Bye-bye, dayo~! Everyone, look after Karen for us, dayo~! Especially you, Shin~! Karen’s a total closet pervert, but take care of her, dayo,” Elmia said.

”Nya-nya~! Karen, make sure you keep a firm grip on Master Shin, nyaa. Stay healthy, nyaa~!” Silvia added.

”Wh—?! You two, wait just a minute! Why would you say something like that right in front of this mutt (Shin)?!” Karentisia snapped.

It seems things are getting quite lively over there for the farewell. I suppose they say tears don’t suit a parting between best friends.

They really were a cheerful pair of comedy relief characters right until the end. Elmia-chan and Silvia-chan… those two hidden heroines were fun. Parting with them now feels unexpectedly lonely.

”Good luck to you both~! Let’s meet again sometime!” I called out.

 ”Elmia-chan, Silvia-chan, bye-bye, nano~!” Alexia waved.

”Tell Fa—tell my father that I’m doing well! Both of you!” Karentisia shouted.

 ”F-Farewell…” Celia said quietly.

 ”Bye-bye, dayo~!”

”Let’s cross paths again somewhere, nyaa~!”

With that, we parted ways with Elmia-chan and Silvia-chan, bringing our strange, seemingly short yet long journey with the hidden heroines to its close.

And now, a new journey begins as we head toward the Regain Kingdom²—a place currently drifting in a decidedly suspicious atmosphere~!

”…What are you grinning about, mutt (Shin)?” Karentisia asked.

”Karentisia-chan? What’s the matter? I thought you wouldn’t even want to speak to me after I carried out my ‘Rebellion of Shin-chan’ against you?” I asked.

”That was…! I just had a momentary lapse in judgment where the blood rushed to my head…… Shin. I’m sorry for ruining your clothes and for bullying Celia. I’ve reflected on it since you scolded me. So, I’d like us to go back to talking normally again,” Karentisia said.

”Karentisia-chan… did you eat something spoiled? Don’t worry about it; I forgave you a long time ago,” I replied.

”I didn’t eat anything bad! You moron!” Karentisia snapped.

 ”He-buu?!” I grunted.

Why did she slap me right after apologizing? Honestly, aren’t Karentisia-chan’s mood swings a little too extreme?

”Are they fighting again?” Celia asked.

”No. They’re just playing around. In other words, infidelity, nano~!” Alexia said.

 (Alys Magic Academy³ Perimeter)

A dense, impenetrable fog blanketed the outskirts of Alys Magic Academy, ensuring no one could draw near. The mist seemed to pour endlessly from a particular well.

This fog felt unnervingly cold and repulsive, much like a frigid breath exhaled by some unseen entity.

”Just as I thought. No matter how we try to enter Alys Magic Academy, we’re forced through a deceptive labyrinth and find ourselves wandering back outside before we even realize it,” Zoltic said.

”Yes. Zoltic-san and I have made several attempts, but we are consistently repelled by the witch’s will,” another replied.

”I see. So they’ve taken a portion of the students hostage while allowing the faculty and the rest of the student body to escape… specifically holding Lady Lala, Shin-sama’s saint, as their captive, noja,” Lady Anastasia said.

”So the enemy’s true objective is indeed Shin-sama. Lady Anastasia mentioned that the Prime Minister of Regain Kingdom used his hidden agents to arrange for him to flee the country,” the companion remarked.

”Indeed. We are deeply concerned for our Master’s safety, noja. Shin-sama’s body is a supreme vessel; there isn’t a specter in existence who wouldn’t covet it, noja,” Lady Anastasia added.

”…So that’s why they’ve dispatched Lady Alexia as bait, intending to force their return to Alys Magic Academy?”

”Most likely… they’ve even stationed assassins along the routes our Master is expected to take, noja.”

 (Inside the Ruins Well)

”My blood ran cold when I missed my chance at that supreme physical vessel, but if I dangle such exquisite bait and seize the people most precious to my new host, they’ll have no choice but to come crawling back, wouldn’t they? …Hurry up and return to this place. My new flesh. Sha-sha-sha!!” Ghost Witch Suria hissed.

 Summary:

Shin and his companions bid a sentimental farewell to the comedy-duo heroines Elmia and Silvia as they set their sights on Regain Kingdom. Karentisia attempts to reconcile with Shin after her earlier outburst, though her temper remains thin. Meanwhile, a darker plot unfolds at Alys Magic Academy, where the Ghost Witch Suria has captured Shin’s saint, Lala, as bait. The group is now walking into a carefully laid trap designed to claim Shin’s ‘supreme body.’

 —

 Character Insight:

This chapter highlights the dual nature of Karentisia’s character; she possesses enough self-awareness to apologize for her actions, yet her deep-seated pride and tsundere tendencies cause her to lash out physically the moment she feels teased. Alexia’s jealousy has reached a point where she labels even playful bickering as ‘infidelity,’ showing her increasing obsession with Shin. On the antagonist side, Suria demonstrates a calculating cruelty by targeting Shin’s emotional weaknesses to secure him as her next vessel.

 —

 Behind the Scene:

The ‘Hidden Heroines’ serve as a bridge between the previous chaotic events and the upcoming ‘Regain Kingdom’ arc. The shift in tone from the comedy of the first half to the eerie, high-stakes reveal of the Ghost Witch Suria is a common light novel structure used to transition from a lighthearted detour back into the main plot.

 T/L:

1 アンクリア樹道 (Ankuria Judou): A pun on the RPG concept of ‘uncleared’ maps; a forest road yet to be fully explored.

2 Regain Kingdom: A major geopolitical entity in the story’s world, often associated with mystery and hidden agendas.

3 Alys Magic Academy: The primary educational setting for magic users in this world, now currently under a supernatural siege.

4 Ghost Witch Suria: A powerful spirit antagonist seeking to possess a high-quality physical vessel, specifically Shin.

Notes:

• Silvia – Another one of the ‘Hidden Eroins’ from the original game, her full background is not revealed in this chapter, but she is highly protective of ‘Karen’ (Karentisia) and recognizes the Protagonist’s Sacred Artifact. She is easily angered and speaks with an intense, aggressive cat dialect.

• Lala – Delusional saint candidate from the Lax Empire who becomes fanatically devoted to Shin, founding a religion in his name and often speaking with the quirky suffix ‘~desuwa’
