Chapter 169 The Woman Who Became Livestock

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”Good morning, livestock. …Man, you guys really stink, desu-kedo?” Lace Agate said.

”It appears a pig has soiled itself while left hanging,” Heliodor remarked.

This place lacked windows; I could only estimate the approximate time by observing the ceiling whenever it happened to open. Judging by Lace Agate’s greeting, morning had presumably arrived.

And precisely as Heliodor noted, I had relieved myself while remained suspended.

The sensation trickling down my legs was far from pleasant, and the stench emanated from the stain spreading directly beneath me.

My subordinates all maintained their distance from me. Shame and remorse intermingled within my chest.

”But Heliodor. Didn’t you say this yesterday? That a leader’s disgrace is the responsibility of the entire group,” Lace Agate asked.

 ”I did indeed,” Heliodor replied.

”In that case, what shall we do? Perhaps have her subordinates lick the floor clean?”

”That may be a suitable arrangement,” Heliodor said.

Hearing their conversation, my subordinates’ complexions turned ashen. Gh…! Damn you both…!

Lace Agate, with her long ears, fluttered down until she was directly in front of me. She addressed me while daintily pinching her nose shut.

”Fufu… why don’t you beg me like this? ‘Please, make my foolish self your livestock…’ If you do, I’ll end this suspension and treat you just like the other livestock. You’ll even be allowed to use the toilet, you know?”

 ”……”

I was utterly helpless, yet my spirit remained unbowed. I glared at Lace Agate with a fierce, unwavering gaze.

”Hmph… What an insolent woman. Everyone is suffering like this because you dared to raise a hand against the King of the Magic Labyrinth. If you don’t declare yourself livestock by the time I count to ten, I truly will make your subordinates scrub away your filth with their tongues,” Lace Agate said.

 ”…!”

”Now then, o-one. Twooo,” Lace Agate counted.

Every one of my subordinates had their eyes fixed upon me. No, it wasn’t just them. The high-ranking sorcery users and Guru Esrain were watching as well.

I could continue to persist in my pride. However, if I did so, these women would be forced to lick up my excrement.

Even I could perceive the reality of the situation by now. This woman was undoubtedly serious.

 ”Seve-en, ei-ght.”

Among my subordinates, some were even casting glares of resentment toward me.

Gh…! If they were merely members of the White Lily Knight² order, it might be one thing, but I cannot impose any further hardship upon the Gurus…!

 ”Ni-iine, te–“

 ”Please… make my foolish self… your livestock…” I muttered.

”…Hmm? Did you say something just now? Your voice was so faint I couldn’t hear a thing. Heliodor, did you catch that?” Lace Agate asked.

”I heard nothing. What did she say?” Heliodor replied.

Lace Agate directed a mocking, twisted smirk my way. You… Damn you…!

”Please make my foolish self your livestock!”

I shouted the declaration of servitude at the top of my lungs. I, a knight of the illustrious Lord Viorga-sama³…! What an absolute disgrace…!

”Oh my, oh my! And here I heard that the woman known as Alvia was a high-minded lady knight? To think she’d beg to become the King of the Magic Labyrinth’s livestock of her own volition!”

 ”What… do you… know of it…!” I spat.

”I wouldn’t know. I’m not a knight or anything of the sort. And if you’re livestock, you’d best mind your tongue. You never know what action or word might serve as the catalyst to change the treatment of everyone in this room,” Lace Agate said.

The chains suspending me began to lower. The moment my feet touched the floor where the waste had pooled, the restraints on both my arms were finally struck off.

Simultaneously, the maids sprang into action, unfastening the chains binding the arms of my subordinates. Though we were bewildered by the turn of events, every one of us was eventually released from our bonds.

At that precise moment, a section of the wall shifted, forming a doorway that led to the adjacent chamber. Beyond that point… if I recalled correctly, was the room that had housed the large communal bath.

”You all reek far too much. First, go wipe yourselves down in that room,” Lace Agate said.

It appeared they were permitting us to wash. To speak candidly, I was immensely grateful. My entire body stank, and I wished to rinse away the filth as quickly as possible. Just as I turned to head toward the door, a subordinate called out from behind me.

 ”Please wait, Commander,” Millrose said.

”What is it, Millrose?” I asked.

She functioned as the equivalent of a vice-commander for the White Lily Knights. While I hadn’t officially established a vice-commander position, she was an exceptionally capable knight of noble lineage, so I had her serve as my direct aide.

”Surely you do not intend to enter before the rest of us in that state, desuno?” Millrose asked.

 ”…What?”

In the bathing area, there would likely be an ample supply of hot water prepared once again. However, water loses its heat as time passes. It was only natural for the ranking officer to use the facilities first.

”Must I spell it out for you to understand? If you utilize the bath first in your condition, those who follow will be forced to wash in water contaminated by your waste, desuno. Could you please be the last to go, Commander, kudasaimase?”

”I understand your point. However, I too wish to cleanse this body with haste,” I replied.

Millrose is talented, but she possesses an incredibly inflexible streak. Furthermore, her tone is so abrasive that many of the other subordinates feel a sense of aversion toward her.

Regardless, if it were that massive communal bath, the water supply should be so vast that it wouldn’t matter if everyone used it to their heart’s content. My using a small portion of it should have no significant impact.

Just as that thought crossed my mind, the hovering Heliodor spoke up.

”Just as a point of clarification. There is no large communal bath for the use of livestock,” Heliodor said.

 ”…Huh?”

”Beyond that room, there is nothing but buckets of water. The supply is limited, so do not use it for anything unnecessary,” Heliodor added.

 Wh… What did you say…!

”Did you hear that, Commander? Until every one of us has finished washing our bodies, please do not set foot in that room under any circumstances, kudasaimase,” Millrose said.

 ”……” I remained silent.

Millrose took the initiative and marched into the room ahead of everyone else. The other subordinates followed her lead, filing into the chamber, yet not a single one of them spared a word for me.

I waited for what felt like an eternity. Finally, once everyone had emerged, I made my way toward the doorway.

 ”Eh…”

Beyond the door, I was met with the sight of a cramped stone room. It was unbelievable. This room had most certainly been the grand bathhouse before…!?

In the center of the room sat a single bucket of water. However, it was nearly empty and already appeared dingy. Having no other choice, I used that meager amount of water to cleanse my body.

I didn’t feel particularly clean, but I was at least in a marginally better state than before. When I returned to the main chamber, Lace Agate was nowhere to be found. In her stead, another door leading to a different room stood open.

Heliodor’s voice resonated from the air once more.

”From this point forward, you will enter that room one by one. To Lace Agate within, you are to name the one person you decided upon yesterday. Refusal to answer will not be tolerated. Every person must provide exactly one name,” Heliodor said.

The name of the person among us they hated most… the one they wished would simply disappear, which the King of the Magic Labyrinth had mentioned yesterday. I was supposed to be excluded from the selection, but still…

”Why do you seek to know such a thing?” I asked, directing the question directly since I was the exception. However, Heliodor ignored my query entirely.

”You comprehend the rules, I assume? Then you, go in first,” Heliodor said.

* * *

Once everyone had cycled through the room, the maids forced our arms behind our backs once more, binding them tightly with chains. Every one of us was cast back onto the floor, making it nearly impossible to stand. In this state, the maids began pouring livestock feed and water into the troughs built into the floor.

Once the preparations were complete, Lace Agate emerged from the room and spoke.

”Now then, livestock. It is time for your fodder. Make sure you eat every last bit, okay?”

 —

 Summary:

Alvia is forced to degrade herself by declaring she is ‘livestock’ to save her subordinates from a vile punishment. Internal fractures appear within the captive knights as Millrose leads a petty revolt regarding the meager water rations. The captors initiate a psychological torture session where each prisoner must vote for someone they want to disappear. The chapter concludes with the high-ranking knights being forced to eat fodder from troughs like animals.

 —

 Character Insight:

Alvia’s self-sacrificial nature is her greatest weakness; by choosing the humiliation of her subordinates over her own pride, she inadvertently accelerates the loss of her authority. Millrose represents the ‘crabs in a bucket’ mentality, where the pressure of captivity turns former allies into bitter rivals over the smallest resources. The captors demonstrate a masterclass in psychological breaking, using basic biological needs—cleanliness and food—as tools to dismantle the knights’ social structure.

 —

 Behind the Scene:

The shift in the room’s architecture (the bath disappearing) suggests the Magic Labyrinth is a living entity that can manipulate space to maximize the inhabitants’ despair. This chapter is a pivotal ‘low point’ in the narrative arc common in the dark harem genre, designed to strip characters of their previous identities.
