Chapter 17 An Unexpected Request to Move

”I really want to move to a room with a better bath~desuwa,” Jane-san said as her first words upon her return.
She was wearing a white dress that looked like a slip. The bright color made her warm skin look very sexy. I guess it is true: even if a girl has a small chest, a sensual person is still sensual. And then, she suddenly says we should move. I suppose for a lady-in-waiting to Princess Leticia¹—someone who takes a maid to the bath with her—a small unit bath is just too tiny. Well, if two people go in together, it is definitely cramped.
Meanwhile, Corinna was drying Jane-san’s hair with magic². Is she basically Jane-san’s maid now…?
”Corinna and I were going to have rooms near Anma-sama’s room, but I simply cannot accept a bath like this desuwa. Let’s ask Her Highness to change our rooms,” Jane said.
”Won’t that be suspicious? I thought I stayed in this room so people wouldn’t notice me,” I asked.
”We can just say it is the whim of the lady-in-waiting. Actually, it is my own whim. Her Highness might smile a bit, but she knows about the bath in this room, so she won’t say no,” Jane replied.
Well, the Princess was the one who picked the room, so she would know. I worry if Jane-san’s reputation will go down, but she doesn’t seem to care. Jane-san looked at Corinna.
”Corinna, do you know any good rooms?” Jane asked.
”Let’s see… near the maid rooms of the First Princess’s faction… no, the baths there are not much better. How about near the lady-in-waiting rooms of the First Princess’s faction? There should be empty rooms there, and everyone nearby knows what is happening. People might rumor that the First Princess’s faction is hogging you, but since the neighbors are allies, Anma-sama’s safety is sure,” Corinna explained.
”That’s a very good idea~desuwa. It would also be easy for Her Highness to visit. Let’s try to persuade her that way,” Jane said.
Just like that, the move was decided. Wait, are there really that many ladies-in-waiting serving the Princess? I heard she was going to be married off to another family.
”Are there really that many ladies-in-waiting in the Princess’s faction?” I asked.
”Usually, there are not many who work directly with Her Highness. Think of the First Princess’s faction as the many ladies-in-waiting of Queen Consort Leticia’s group who like the First Princess best. Usually they do other jobs, but because of the summoning ritual³, everyone is helping Her Highness now, so it is a large number,” Jane explained.
”I see, so they usually do other work. It’s impressive you could gather them all,” I said.
”Leticia-sama is the first child of the Queen Consort, so the Queen Consort has high hopes for her. That is why she sends ladies-in-waiting that Leticia-sama likes. She also sends other people we can trust. But even if we trust them as part of the Queen Consort’s group, we might not trust them as part of the Princess’s group, so we are careful,” Jane added.
So, the secret of me being hidden in the Princess’s group has not reached the Queen Consort’s bigger group.
”Because of this summoning ritual, the ladies-in-waiting of the First Princess’s group are all together. Sara and Flora… the ones assigned to the production-class summoners, have moved to rooms near them. So there are empty rooms, including the one I used before. I think it is fine for you to come. From Her Highness’s view, it’s better to have Anma-sama there than a strange lady-in-waiting who doesn’t know the secret,” Jane said.
”If that is the case, I understand,” I replied.
”Then, let’s go see Her Highness before lunch. She should be in her room. Corinna, please stay here. Wait for us to come back before you go to eat,” Jane said.
”Yes, I understand. Have a safe trip,” Corinna replied.

I walked through the royal palace with Jane-san. We went up three flights of stairs. I remember Nishiyama-sensei saying the women’s rooms were three floors up.
”Um, Jane-san? Is the fourth floor of this building for the female summoners?” I asked.
”Yes, that is right. Her Highness has moved to a room here for now. She said it makes it easier for the summoners to talk to her,” Jane replied.
It was the Princess’s kindness. I knew she was easy to talk to, but I didn’t think she would move her own room. Her ladies-in-waiting really like her; she must be a good person. But seeing her talk to Alisha-san before, she seems to have a bit of a sharp side too.
Two maids stood in front of the room at the end. Jane-san said, “It is Jane~desuwa. Please tell Her Highness I am here,” and a maid knocked and went inside. We were allowed in quickly.
I followed Jane-san inside and saw the Princess and Alisha-san. The Princess smiled at us.
”Good day, Anma-sama, Jane. Is something wrong?” Princess Leticia asked.
”Leticia-sama, the bath in Anma-sama’s room is too small, so please let him move rooms desuwa,” Jane said.
She went right to the main point. I guess that is how things work here.

Summary:
Jane returns from her bath and immediately demands a room change for Anma because the bathtub is too small. Corinna suggests a spot near the First Princess’s loyal attendants to keep Anma safe and hidden. Anma learns that Princess Leticia moved her room to the fourth floor to be closer to the students. Jane directly asks the Princess for permission to move Anma before lunch starts.

Character Insight:
Jane’s ‘whim’ is actually a clever way to move Anma without making people suspicious. Princess Leticia shows she is a kind leader by moving her own room to help the newcomers feel comfortable. Anma is starting to see that the palace is full of different groups and he needs to be careful where he stays.

• Nishiyama – The homeroom teacher and math instructor. She has a short stature, a womanly body with a large chest and rounded hips, and speaks in a gentle manner. Wears a white dress cinched at the waist. Her Job is Flower Mage.
• Alisha – A maid serving the Princess. She has red hair and a well-endowed chest. She is highly protective and skilled enough to easily restrain an average man.
