Chapter 194 The New Magical Girl and the Man Heading to the Holy City

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

That was why, the very next morning, we all gathered outside the mansion at the crack of dawn.

Among the group were Millrose and Mardira. With everyone’s eyes fixed upon her, Esrain began to chant her transformation spell.

”Pisula, Suzuri, Pirazuri~! O, Lapis Lazuli gem, grant me your strength!”

I’d grown quite accustomed to these transformation sequences by now, but Ami-chan’s excitement was palpable. Honestly, I was feeling a bit of a thrill myself. As for Millrose and Mardira, they simply remained in a state of perpetual astonishment.

Then, a beautiful girl emerged to shock them even further.

”Refreshing azure for you! Magical Girl, Strangle-Death Lapis Lazuli!”

 ”Whaaaat?!” Millrose cried out.

 ”Esrain is…?!” Mardira gasped.

Magical Girl Lapis Lazuli was clad in a mini-skirt style outfit.

The color palette was a deep indigo throughout. Frills adorned every conceivable part of her attire, down to her socks and gloves. She had at least fifty percent more ruffles than any other Magical Girl.

Her indigo hair, accented with white mesh, was pulled back into a simple ponytail, while her bangs extended down to her chest on both sides.

Though her voice was bright and cheerful, her eyes remained the same half-lidded, expressionless stare as always. Apparently, some things never change.

”As the Dominator and Quester, I bestow a Class upon thee…!” I said.

Now came the Class bestowal. Focusing all my strength into my eyes, I checked Lapis Lazuli’s status.

 [Strangle-Death Lapis Lazuli]

 ■Height: 152

 ■Bust Size: D

 ■Class: Blitz Master¹

 ■Attribute: Lightning

 ■Weapon: Golden Circle Akeskore² (Lightning)

 ■Attack Power: Incredible

 ■Defense: A bit…

 ■Mobility: Not bad

 ■Magic Power: Incredible

 ”Th-this is…?!” Esrain muttered.

”Wow! It’s a class specialized in lightning magic!” Ami-chan exclaimed. “She’s a pure rearguard type capable of learning devastating offensive spells!”

Oh…! A rearguard with high Attack Power—that makes her the second one after Iris, also known as Heliodor, doesn’t it?

Cleonora (aka Emerald) is a debuffing Magical Girl who can also fight in the vanguard. Liliarette (aka Sardonyx) is a defense-oriented vanguard. Reika (aka Celestite) is an attack-heavy vanguard type.

Then there is Iris (aka Heliodor) as a rearguard archer, and Aris (aka Lace Agate) as rearguard support. Now, Esrain (aka Lapis Lazuli) has joined them as a rearguard Magical Girl specializing in offensive magic.

As for her weapon, the Golden Circle Akeskore, it took the form of a brilliant gold ring worn on Lapis Lazuli’s right middle finger. It appeared she could discharge her offensive magic using that ring as a focal point.

Also, Lapis Lazuli… her height had increased slightly after the transformation. Her bust size had dipped a bit, but she was likely still the most well-endowed among all the Magical Girls.

”Esrain… are you doing all right?” I asked.

”…Mm. A massive power has taken root… boku also surprised,” she replied.

After this, Lapis Lazuli was scheduled to receive a training seminar from her senior Magical Girls. They’d cover the rules of the trade and how to manage her magic.

Meanwhile, I had my own agenda for the day. To that end, I’d asked Vectra-san to change into a different outfit.

”It suits you, Vectra-san,” I said.

”To suggest I set aside my maid’s attire… honestly. Do you truly understand that I am the head maid of this household?” Vectra asked.

Vectra-san was currently wearing trousers instead of a skirt.

Her entire ensemble was designed for mobility, giving her the air of an adventurer at first glance. I wasn’t actually sure if ‘adventurers’ even existed in this world, though.

Still, at 170 centimeters tall, she really pulled it off. I’d had her leave her halberd behind since it was too dangerous for a casual outing, but if she were holding it, she’d look every bit like a legendary warrior woman.

Yes. My plan for today was to head to the Holy City with Vectra-san.

We were going to visit Guild Master Egard of the Ludo Merchant Guild³, but there was a chance we’d be kept waiting again. If that happened, I figured we’d just spend the time sightseeing around the Holy City.

I intended to have Vectra-san act as my bodyguard. Honestly, one couldn’t ask for a more reliable companion.

”I wished to accompany you as well…” Eunos-san sighed.

 ”Me too!” Ghibli-san added.

Eunos-san and Ghibli-san both looked quite dejected. However, the wings on Eunos-san’s back were far too conspicuous, and Ghibli-san looked like a beastman at a glance.

Thus, we made the jump to the Holy City of Ragnarond via Ami-chan’s teleportation.

* * *

Upon our arrival at the Ludo Merchant Guild, the servants began scurrying about in a frantic rush. It seemed we might have arrived at an inconveniently busy time.

”Um… if you’re too busy, we could always come back another day…” I said.

”No, no! Guild Master Egard will be here momentarily! Please, follow me—you can wait in this room!” the servant replied.

The moment we were shown into the lavish reception room, an assortment of teas and sweets was brought out to us. Unlike our previous visit, the treatment was remarkably hospitable!

Vectra-san didn’t technically need to consume anything, but she picked up a teacup and began to sip the tea.

Man, why does she look so much like a masterpiece painting just by drinking tea…?

”My apologies for the wait!” Egard said, appearing at last.

I figured Egard-san was probably around the same age as me. Yet, he radiated this intense aura of a ‘high-level professional.’

Well, it made sense. He ran a massive merchant guild in the Holy City, after all. When you considered his business dealings with Count Lambdaine, there was no doubt he was incredibly skilled at his job.

After exchanging a few long-overdue greetings, Egard-san bypassed the small talk and dove straight into the heart of the matter.

”Lord Vulcain. The merchandise you provided the other day was truly exceptional,” Egard said.

”Is that so? I’m glad they were to your liking,” I replied.

I was well aware that stamina enhancers had a massive market in Japan. Since no equivalent product existed in this world, I’d predicted the demand here would be just as high.

For the record, the quality of the stamina enhancers I’d handed over to Egard-san was Grade A.

Looking ahead to potential long-term business—similar to my arrangement with Motokuro Miyakuji-san—I’d decided that delivering large quantities of Grade C items would be a hassle. It was much more efficient to provide a smaller number of long-lasting Grade A bottles. Though, ‘delivering’ really just meant pulling them out of my Treasure Trove.

”…By the way, who might this lady be? I don’t believe she was present during our last meeting,” Egard noted.

”This is Vectra. She handles various personal matters for me,” I explained.

Between her striking beauty and the fact that she always kept both eyes closed, it was only natural for Egard-san to be curious. Or perhaps he was just hesitant to discuss ‘those’ kinds of products in front of a lady.

”I see… Shall we proceed with our negotiations then?” Egard asked.

 ”Certainly,” I said.

Negotiations, huh. It looked like he was definitely ready to strike a deal.

”Both the ‘rubbers’ and the ‘stamina enhancers’ Lord Vulcain provided… we’ve confirmed that they both possess incredibly high performance. We put the ‘rubbers’ through various tests on our end… they hold a surprising amount of water. Furthermore, they are remarkably easy to put on or take off, and the contraceptive efficacy is extremely high,” Egard explained.

It seemed they’d performed quite a few ‘trials’ outside of actual use. I suppose you can’t be too careful when testing unknown items.

”Furthermore, regarding the ‘stamina enhancers’… it seems every other medicine that previously laid claim to that name will have to forfeit it,” Egard said.

 ”Eh…?” I muttered.

”Because a genuine, bona fide stamina enhancer has finally appeared. An ‘enhancer’ that significantly strengthens the male anatomy, and ‘rubbers’ with superior contraceptive properties… Good heavens, I never imagined you intended to revolutionize the adult industry in such a way… Lord Vulcain, you are a terrifying man,” Egard said.

He seemed genuinely impressed. I was just glad he’d found so much value in them.

”There are a few points I’d like to confirm…” Egard said.

 ”Sure, go ahead,” I replied.

”Are both of these products manufactured by you, Lord Vulcain?” Egard asked.

Oops… I hadn’t really expected this to turn into a full-blown negotiation so quickly, so I hadn’t consulted Liliarette-san or the others. I hadn’t prepared an answer for a question like this.

I wasn’t exactly desperate for money, so I’d just figured I’d bring them in whenever I felt like it if he was willing to buy. It was important to stockpile Rona currency for a rainy day, but I didn’t have a burning need to maximize profits right this second.

”…Well, yes. I can’t go into the specifics, but I produce both in a particular workshop,” I said.

”I see… So Lord Vulcain is a compounder or creator, rather than a mere merchant. I assume the manufacturing process is a trade secret?” Egard asked.

Even if I explained it, I doubt he’d understand. The rubbers are brought over from Japan, and the enhancers are created by converting Resource Points.

Egard-san fell silent for a moment, but he didn’t press the issue. He likely realized that asking wouldn’t get him anywhere.

”These products have the potential to completely overhaul the adult industry market. …Are you supplying any merchant guilds other than the Ludo Guild? For instance… the Kelna Merchant Guild?” Egard asked.

”I supply the Kelna Merchant Guild with products from an entirely different category. Neither the rubbers nor the enhancers have been brought to any guild other than the Ludo Merchant Guild yet,” I answered honestly.

I decided to tell the truth. If Liliarette-san had been here, she might have played it differently. I’m not exactly a master negotiator, after all.

”I see… I must once again express my gratitude to Count Lambdaine for introducing me to you. By the way… if my Ludo Merchant Guild were to buy these from you, would you be able to provide a stable, consistent supply? I imagine transporting goods all the way to the Holy City is quite the undertaking,” Egard said.

I remembered Count Lambdaine and Motokuro-san worrying about supply chains too. As a buyer, it’s only natural to want stability. And this was the Holy City. The environment was different from other towns or streets. After all, it was a city reached only by traveling a long road and crossing a lake. …Well, for normal people, anyway.

”I can’t guarantee the exact timing of every delivery… but I should be able to provide a decent amount at a pace of at least once every thirty days,” I said.

”I see… I suppose the workshop’s operating capacity must be considered. Honestly, once every thirty days is a very favorable condition. If you wish, our guild could even lend some extra hands to your workshop…” Egard suggested.

”No, that won’t be necessary,” I declined.

He likely wanted to send people over to boost production efficiency.

”…What do you say, Lord Vulcain? If you would be willing to supply a bulk amount exclusively to the Ludo Merchant Guild, I would like to purchase them at a price that is more than generous,” Egard proposed.

”So you’re looking for an exclusive partnership,” I said.

 ”Precisely,” Egard replied.

Basically, he was saying: ‘Don’t take these to any other guild, and I’ll pay you a premium.’ To be fair, I didn’t have the reputation or the connections to go to other guilds anyway.

”Just for reference, when you say a ‘bulk amount,’ what kind of numbers are we talking about?” I asked.

”Well… that would depend on the pace at which Lord Vulcain can produce them…” Egard replied.

”…For example, how would an amount like this strike you?” I asked.

As I spoke, I reached both arms under the table. I was positioned so that Egard-san couldn’t see my movements. From my Treasure Trove, I pulled out several packs of ‘rubbers’ and a wooden box containing ten bottles of stamina enhancer.

The rubbers were ones I’d purchased in Japan; they were commercial-sized packs that cost a little over a thousand yen for a massive quantity. Ridiculously cheap. I casually laid them out on the table.

 ”Th-this is…!” Egard gasped.

”There are about three hundred rubbers. The stamina enhancers are a bit more labor-intensive… so I only have ten today, but I can deliver at least this much as a baseline,” I said.

”………!” Egard’s eyes were wide as saucers.

What a gaze. I could practically hear the gears turning in his head as he crunched the numbers.

 ”…Lord Vulcain,” Egard said.

 ”Yes?” I replied.

”Three hundred rubbers and ten stamina enhancers. I would like to purchase this as a basic set for ten thousand Rona… how does that sound to you?” Egard asked.

Even if you ask me… I had no way of knowing if that was high or low. Perhaps misinterpreting my silence, Egard-san continued.

”To be perfectly honest, there are some goods that are simply difficult to price. This is one of them, partly because there are no comparable items, and partly because I cannot estimate your production costs. However, given Count Lambdaine’s introduction, I have no intention of offering you a price that would be deceptive,” Egard said.

He was basically saying he wouldn’t offer a price that would make Count Lambdaine look bad.

Well, I didn’t really care what the price was—just as I was thinking that, Vectra-san spoke up.

”Then how about paying us thirty percent of the profits earned from the sale of these goods as a royalty?” Vectra asked.

 ”Eh…?!” Egard stammered.

An unexpected counter-proposal! Essentially, it meant the amount I’d be paid would fluctuate based on actual sales.

”Producing these involves material costs, and of course, a significant investment of time. Furthermore, since no similar products exist, we aren’t yet at a stage where a firm market value can be set, are we? In that case, it would be much more rational to pay out a portion of the profits,” Vectra explained.

I see… And since he was operating under Count Lambdaine’s name, it was unlikely Egard-san would cook the books. If he did that, he’d be insulting the man who introduced us, and it would mean an immediate end to our business relationship.

”…I see. Yes… that might indeed be more beneficial for both parties. However, I absolutely do not want to let this opportunity pass me by!” Egard exclaimed.

 ”Eh…?” I muttered.

”Right now, thanks to the Demon Forest crops we procure from the Kelna Merchant Guild, our ties with the nobility are expanding rapidly! If we start pitching these products on top of that, imagine the profits we could see! Lord Vulcain, could you please manage to deliver a high volume of rubbers and enhancers at a frequent pace for a while?! During that period, I will grant you forty percent of the sales!” Egard proposed.

Apparently, Egard-san’s influence among the wealthy was on the rise. He clearly wanted to leverage my goods to secure that market.

After some discussion, we settled on a schedule where I’d deliver at least once every twenty days for the time being. During that interval, I’d receive forty percent of the sales revenue.

Once things stabilized, the delivery frequency would slow down, and my share would shift to thirty percent. Regardless, I was just happy that business in the Holy City was off to a good start.

 …Wait? I didn’t actually set out to become a merchant…

By the way, the Slave of Love skill I obtained after Lapis Lazuli joined the fold was called ‘Thunder Tremor Sword.’ Apparently, it’s a skill that allows for one massive discharge of lightning energy per day.

I finally got a skill that feels like a finishing move! I’ll have to find an opportunity to test out exactly what it can do soon.

 Summary:

Esrain transforms into the new Magical Girl Lapis Lazuli, revealing a powerful lightning-based rearguard class. Vulcain travels to the Holy City of Ragnarond with his head maid Vectra to negotiate with the Ludo Merchant Guild. They secure a lucrative exclusive deal to sell modern Japanese goods like ‘rubbers’ and stamina enhancers to the city’s nobility. Vulcain also gains a powerful new daily ultimate skill, Thunder Tremor Sword, through his bond with the new Magical Girl.

 —

 Character Insight:

Vulcain continues to show a lack of traditional merchant greed, often relying on his companions or instinct rather than calculated negotiation, yet he stumbles into massive wealth. Esrain’s transformation into Lapis Lazuli highlights a dichotomy between her flashy, frilly magical girl persona and her consistently deadpan, stoic personality. Vectra demonstrates her multifaceted utility by transitioning from a halberd-wielding maid to a sharp negotiator, protecting Vulcain’s interests both physically and financially. Egard represents the ambitious side of this world’s commerce, quickly identifying the market-disrupting potential of Vulcain’s ‘otherworldly’ goods.

 —

 Behind the Scene:

The author often uses the ‘adult industry’ products as a humorous way to bridge the gap between Vulcain’s Japanese common sense and the fantasy world’s lack of hygiene/medical tech. The contrast between the ‘cute’ Magical Girl aesthetic and the pragmatic trade of contraceptive ‘rubbers’ is a recurring tonal element in this series.
