Chapter 60 The Fourth Morning ③

”If it is your wish, Anma-sama, I see no issue with instructing Owa-sama and Nishiyama-sama in the art of contraceptive magic. Please, leave everything to me,” Jane said.

Back in my room, I’d been picking Jane’s brain about an idea that struck me during breakfast. It was a pretty selfish request-wanting the girls to learn birth control magic-but Jane simply gave me a graceful nod of approval.

”Oh, really? I mean, since they aren’t interacting with any guys besides me, it’s basically like I’m asking them to learn magic specifically so they can sleep with me. I figured they’d be too embarrassed to even consider it,” I said.

Think about it: from their perspective, they have zero contact with other men. Learning that magic is essentially like declaring to the maids, “I intend to sleep with Anma, so please teach me how to not get pregnant.” It’s mortifying. If the other girls caught wind of it, they’d immediately start whispering about “that kind of relationship.” It’s especially bad for Sensei. Between her social standing and how the others would react, it’d be a disaster. The way the other girls would look at me… it doesn’t bear thinking about.

Besides, there’s no way they could learn it in secret while living in such a tight-knit group. And teaching the both of them? That’s a whole other level of “yikes.” If they learn it together, they’ll both know that the Class President and Sensei are both planning on sleeping with me. I’d be lucky if I didn’t get a knife in my back.

At least, those were the reasons I thought it would be impossible. But to Jane, my anxieties were apparently a non-issue. She spoke with a confidence that suggested there wasn’t a single hurdle in our way.

”It would defeat the purpose if the magic was so embarrassing that no one would learn it. Officially, this spell is known as ‘Menstrual Relief Magic¹‘ ~desuwa. Its public benefits are so exceptional that nearly every adult woman in this country-or this world, for that matter-has mastered it,” Jane explained.

I see. If that’s the cover story, they can learn it from the maids without any shame. Apparently, about once a year, a couple turns up complaining they can’t conceive, only to realize they’d been using the ‘relief’ magic so habitually they forgot it was also a contraceptive.

Also, men apparently know of the magic but don’t know the specifics. Jane mentioned it’s not the sort of thing women go out of their way to discuss with men.

”I shall consult with Her Highness to see if we can arrange a lesson for all the female summoners as early as tomorrow. It isn’t a particularly difficult spell. Those in magical Jobs should master it by tomorrow evening; the others might take a few days,” Jane said.

”Whoa, that’s fast. So Sensei, being a Flower Mage, might have it down by tomorrow?” I asked.

That means… I might actually be able to go all the way with Sensei as soon as tomorrow night! The anticipation is starting to kill me. I’ll play it cool and keep her teased today, then let everything explode tomorrow night.

That got me thinking-what exactly is the Class President’s Job? If she’s in a magic-related field, I might be able to get up to some mischief with her too… though honestly, at this rate, I feel like I could make a move on her today if I really tried.

”Jane, do you know what the Class President’s Job is?” I asked.

”No, I’m afraid not. Her Highness and Alisha are aware, of course, but I have not been informed. Her Highness likely sees no reason to share that information with us, so she probably wouldn’t tell me even if I asked,” Jane replied.

”Right, I forgot. The Jobs of the Production Group are kept secret even from the maids,” I muttered.

I remember Sensei mentioning that they hide everyone’s Jobs so no one knows who has combat potential. But if magic users learn this spell faster, won’t that give them away?

”Yes. Officially, the secrecy is to prevent those who aren’t suited for it from being forced into the Subjugation Squad. But as I mentioned yesterday, it also serves to protect the privacy of those with… shall we say, ‘naughty’ Jobs ~desuwa,” Jane said.

 ”So that’s another reason.”

”The Jobs granted to summoners are truly mysterious. For the sake of the individual and those around them, some things are better left unsaid. Naturally, Anma-sama’s Job is the prime example of that,” Jane noted.

 ”The ‘prime example,’ huh…”

Apparently, revealing whether someone is a magic user isn’t actually a problem. Not all mages are built for combat. Take Sensei’s ‘Flower Mage’ Job-even though it’s magic-based, she can’t fight, so she’s perfectly fine staying in the Production Group.

I did wonder for a second if a Job like that was even useful, but then I imagined Sensei looking all happy surrounded by flowers, and it just warmed my heart. Sensei’s smile could bring about world peace. Besides, if we’re talking about ‘useless’ Jobs, I’d definitely be the first one on the chopping block.

Jane also pointed out that of all the ‘secret’ Jobs, mine is probably the one known by the most people. Usually, a secret Job doesn’t get leaked to dozens of people. However, the cover story-that I’m ‘just a massage therapist’-has been spread to thousands. People just accept it as my actual, non-hidden Job. Her Highness’s grip on information control is terrifyingly sharp.

”Wait, don’t you need a specific Skill to use magic? I think Corinna mentioned something like that,” I said.

”How shall I put this? It is a bit of a ‘chicken or the egg’ situation. Does one use magic because they have the Skill, or does the Skill appear on an Appraisal because they can use the magic? It is one of the two ~desuwa. Either way, anyone can learn basic ‘Daily Life Magic’ if they put in the effort,” Jane explained.

”Wait, you can just learn new Skills? Not just the ones I was supposed to get from the start, like my Job Skills?” I asked.

”If it is a General Skill², anyone can acquire it through diligence. Often, people find they’ve gained them without even realizing it-sometimes even Skills they didn’t particularly want. It is simply the result of one’s actions,” Jane said.

So, ‘General Skills’ are fair game. Unlike summoners, people born in this world like Jane don’t usually start with innate Skills; they earn them as they go. The only exception is ‘Language Comprehension.’ No one in this world has ever just ‘learned’ that. It’s considered a power that’s impossible to gain through mere effort.

”Possessing an exceptional Skill like Language Comprehension, alongside the mysterious power of Jobs and Job Skills-those are the things that make summoners special ~desuwa. In all other respects, you are no different from us. I believe you could certainly learn new Skills, Anma-sama,” Jane said.

”If you have to earn them, does that mean you guys don’t have Jobs?” I asked.

”Correct, we do not. Though, if you consider that it gives us the freedom to choose our own professions, it is not a bad thing,” Jane replied.

That’s true. Having your life’s path decided by a system would suck the freedom right out of everything.

”By the way… was me becoming able to do hair removal a new General Skill I picked up?” I asked.

”No, I believe that was an effect of your ‘Massage of Wisdom³.’ A normal person does not suddenly become an expert in hair removal for no reason,” Jane said.

”We’ve wandered off-topic. Let us proceed with the Appraisal. That should clear things up.” Jane said, reaching for the Appraisal Magic Tool.

”If Jobs were assigned automatically, Corinna probably wouldn’t have been a maid,” Jane remarked.

”Even if my Job was ‘Hero,’ I would have still aimed to be a maid,” Corinna replied.

”That would actually be more of a headache ~desuwa…” Jane muttered.

 —

 Summary:

Anma discusses his plan to have the female summoners learn contraceptive magic with Jane. Jane reveals a clever social loophole: the spell is publicly marketed as menstrual pain relief, making it socially acceptable to learn. They also delve into the world’s mechanics, distinguishing between innate summoner Jobs and the earned Skills of the local population.

 —

 Trivia:

 - The contraceptive magic is so common among locals that couples sometimes forget to stop using it when they want to conceive.

 - Men generally know the magic exists but are kept in the dark about its specifics by women.

 - Summoners are the only ones with ‘Jobs’; locals simply have professions and earned skills.

 - The Princess is using Anma’s ‘Massage Therapist’ job as a massive misinformation campaign

 —

 Character Insight:

Anma’s motives are dual-layered; while he is driven by lust (wanting to ‘go all the way’), he is also genuinely concerned about the social and physical consequences for the women. Jane shows her tactical brilliance by managing information and providing social cover for his lewd requests.

 —

 Behind the Scenes:

The ‘desuwa’ particle used by Jane emphasizes her ‘elegant maid’ trope, which contrasts with the gritty reality of the ‘Subjugation Squad’ mechanics.

 —

 TL Notes:

1 Refers to 避妊魔法 (Hinin Mahou), cleverly localized as a dual-purpose spell to avoid social stigma.

2 一般スキル (Ippan Sukiru), skills anyone in the world can learn through practice, unlike Job-locked skills.

3 賢者のマッサージ (Kenja no Massaaji), Anma’s unique cheat ability.

Notes:

• Nishiyama – The homeroom teacher and math instructor. She has a short stature, a womanly body with a large chest, long dark brown hair, and rounded hips, and speaks in a gentle manner. Wears a white dress cinched at the waist. Her Job is Flower Mage.

• Jane – A maid with light blue hair. She has an AA-cup breast size and is desperate for breast enhancement.

• Alisha – A maid serving the Princess. She has red hair and a well-endowed chest. She is highly protective and skilled enough to easily restrain an average man.

• Corinna – A maid with black hair wearing a maid outfit. She is described as having very large breasts that bounce when she moves.
