Chapter 63 Ena-san’s Massage ②
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Y-yes! Hehe, I guess I’m a little embarrassed,” Ena-san said.
Having her massage brought up made Ena-san’s cheeks flush a deep crimson, and she started scratching at her face. She stood there, fidgeting and swaying her body restlessly.
Seeing a high-energy girl like Ena-san acting so bashful is honestly great. That gap in personality really highlights her cuteness. Looking at her like this makes me want to tease her, but Corinna would probably kill me, so I kept my mouth shut. I’m learning to pick my battles.
”U-um, clothes! I’m taking my clothes off now! Corinna-chan, can you help me?” Ena-san asked.
”Please wait! Do not undress in the waiting room! Someone might come in from outside!” Corinna cried.
”Ena, since when did you become so comfortable exposing your skin in front of others?” Jane asked.
While Corinna scrambled to stop her, Jane shook her head with a weary, “good grief” expression. Seeing that, Ena-san’s face turned even redder and her head started spinning. I half-expected to see steam whistling off her scalp.
”That’s not it! U-um, uh! I’ll go take them off elsewhere!” Ena-san shouted.
”Stop! Just stop! Don’t go outside!” Corinna yelled.
I stopped Ena-san before she could bolt out the door to who-knows-where, and asked Corinna to lead her into the private treatment room in the back.
Ena-san, now in a total state of panic, disappeared into the rear of the suite as if she were being hauled off by Corinna. It was a pitiful sight, but adorable. For the record, I didn’t do anything, so I’m innocent.
”Where on earth was that girl planning to undress…?” Jane wondered aloud.
”Actually, I’m worried she was going to walk all the way back here totally naked,” I muttered.
Where was she even going? Back to her quarters? When I asked Jane, she simply shook her head.
”She is supposed to be living in the servant’s quarters attached to Master Owa’s room now. I heard she moved just yesterday. Surely she wouldn’t try to return all the way to her room… or so I would hope.” Jane said desuwa¹.
She seemed to lose her confidence mid-sentence. I really wish she’d stop. The idea of her walking from the Class President’s room to here while topless is a nightmare. Everything we’re trying to hide would be blown wide open. Seriously, girl, don’t just stroll through the halls half-naked.
I couldn’t help but feel anxious about whether Ena-san could really keep a secret from the Class President. Sensing my worry, Jane took a breath to reassure me.
”I admit she is scatterbrained and has no resistance to these kinds of topics, but she is a good girl with a sense of responsibility and plenty of grit. She has the ability to handle herself when things get difficult. Generally speaking, it shouldn’t be a problem.” Jane said.
”Generally speaking…? Meaning…?” I asked.
I caught a bit of hesitation in her voice, so I pressed her. Jane let out a wry smile.
”Ena was originally sent here to act as the coordinator for the crowds of people trying to speak with Master Owa. She has the ability to handle that kind of work flawlessly. However, her personality just isn’t suited for deceiving people or telling lies…” Jane explained.
”So you’re saying she’s the wrong person for a job that requires keeping the Class President in the dark.” I replied.
”Precisely,” Jane nodded. Well, that’s just great. Though, I’m the one who forced this extra work on her. Come to think of it, asking a lady-in-waiting to keep secrets from the person she’s supposed to be supporting must be a nightmare. It’s a tough spot to be in.
”Of course, she has been trained as a servant of Her Highness, so she should be able to keep up appearances unless something truly extreme happens. She just isn’t accustomed to this sort of thing, since it isn’t the typical aristocratic back-and-forth.” Jane said.
”So she’ll be fine once she gets the hang of it?” I asked.
”Yes. That said, as I mentioned the day before yesterday, Her Highness is already drafting a plan based on the assumption that the existence of someone with bust-enhancement abilities² will eventually be leaked. While we need to report the risk of Master Owa finding out to Her Highness, there is no need for you to be so guarded.” Jane said.
Jane said it so casually. I could feel her absolute trust in the Princess-the belief that as long as she was informed, she would handle the situation.
Hearing that actually helped me relax. If the Princess is on it, it’ll probably be fine.
Once I settled down, I noticed that despite her words, Jane still looked a bit restless. She kept glancing toward the back room.
From what she’d said, I didn’t think she was worried about the Princess’s handling of things. It seemed she had a different concern.
”Is something wrong? You seem a bit on edge,” I said.
”Oh, no. My apologies. It is nothing.” Jane replied.
Yeah, it definitely wasn’t “nothing.” Realizing I had caught on, she spoke up again, looking a bit embarrassed.
”It’s just… she is like a little sister to us. She works so hard, and when you see her struggling, you instinctively want to reach out and help. I just hope she doesn’t make a mistake that she’ll end up brooding over.” Jane admitted.
”Ah, you saw her in trouble and just wanted to do something for her.” I said.
”O-of course that isn’t the only reason! I have to make sure she doesn’t cause any trouble for the Summoned Hero, so I simply have to keep a close watch!” Jane insisted.
Her face flushed slightly as she kept making excuses. I watched her with a warm smile until she gave a small cough and continued as if nothing had happened.
”The others feel the same way, so Ena has plenty of people supporting her. Even if a problem arises, we can handle it, so please don’t worry.” Jane said.
”I’m not worried anymore, so it’s okay. Thank you.” I replied.
Honestly, Jane seemed more worried than I was. It wasn’t in a bad way, though-it was like a guardian watching over a child. Although, Ena-san might not appreciate being treated like a kid.
While I was talking with Jane, Corinna returned. “Lady Ena is ready for you,” she announced. Well then, time to start the massage.
…I just hope she can actually stay calm while I’m working on her.
