Volume 6 Chapter 8 Emergency Ejection

”Gate preparation OK. Mana concentration: Good. All green on the other side as well,” the staff member reported to the Sistemador¹. In the Gate Room of the research institute, the staff had been busily making preparations.
”Very well, everyone. Please attach your tags. The order is exactly as explained during the briefing. After each person passes through, we will pause briefly to perform a Gate check. Please follow instructions calmly and do not rush,” the Sistemador said.
They were being incredibly cautious, likely because they were sending the Princess through. Puruun felt the weight of the moment. The four travelers each carried a small bag and wore a tag around their necks. Even Princess Shushu Ria had a solemn expression, clearly feeling the tension.
”Princess, if you get too nervous, you’re going to end up needing a bathroom break. Why not have Mama Akari hold your hand? It’ll help put you at ease,” Puruun said.
”Ms. Puruun, you’re so mean!” Princess Shushu Ria replied, sticking her tongue out.
Mama Akari then casually took the Princess’s hand and whispered, “Princess, I’m actually quite nervous myself, so please let me hold your hand.”
”Hahaha,” Puruun laughed quietly. That was so like Mama Akari. Princess Shushu Ria gripped her hand back, looking far from displeased as she began to calm down.
”It’s time. We’ll start with Zau-san,” the Sistemador said.
Prompted by the Sistemador, Zau-san of the Spirit Clan² stepped forward. “Well then, everyone… I’m off,” Zau-san said.
Spirit Clan members really were a polite bunch. After Zau-san entered the Gate, the staff performed a status check. Once they confirmed there were no issues, they called for the Princess.
”Princess, Military Officer Saran is waiting for you on the other side, so rest assured. You remember her face, don’t you?” the Sistemador asked.
”I’ll be fine. Though it has been about five years…” Princess Shushu Ria replied.
”Safe travels then,” the Systemador said, waving a hand.
”Yes! Well then, everyone… Shushu Dwarf Engineer Ria, heading out!!” Princess Shushu Ria shouted. She suddenly sprinted into the Gate, and for a moment, it looked as if pale blue lightning crackled across the entrance.
”Wait, Princess! S-Systemador, is everything alright?!” Ms. Claudel asked frantically. The Systemador and the staff checked the readings, but there seemed to be no abnormalities with the Gate. It nearly gave Puruun a heart attack.
”That girl… she’s going to get a spanking the moment she lands on the other side,” Mama Akari said with a wry smile as she stepped forward.
”Now, now. Having that much vitality is probably better for living over there, don’t you think?” the Systemador added, also smiling wryly. “Well then, Ms. Akari. You’re next.”
The Systemador guided Mama Akari toward the Gate.
”PurPur, Ms. Claudel, Lady Beyond, Ms. Sharlin… and Karin. Give my best to the Queen, Sir Aaron, and Yuuta,” Mama Akari said. As she looked at the faces of the people seeing her off, a glimmer of tears caught the light in her eyes.
”Yeah. Leave it to me, Mom. I’ll make sure Dad hears everything through the magical communications too,” Karin said, her voice wavering.
”Well then… I’m going,” Mama Akari said, taking a steadying breath before stepping into the Gate. As soon as she vanished from sight, the staff immediately began the final inspection.
Suddenly, a shrill, deafening alarm shrieked through the room.
”What happened?!” the Systemador shouted, his face turning pale as he turned to the nearby staff.
”Wait a moment… we’re measuring a rapid drop in mana concentration near the Gate exit! It’s no use! We can’t maintain the transfer at this rate!” the staff member yelled.
”What?! What happened?! No, forget that-trigger the Emergency Ejection!” the Systemador commanded.
”Emergency Ejection!” the staff member repeated, instantly slamming the red button on the wall.
”Wait, what’s going on?!” Puruun demanded, snapping at the Systemador in confusion.
”Minister Puruun, we don’t have details, but Ms. Akari’s transfer was compromised. We had to perform a forced ejection,” the Systemador explained.
”Emergency Ejection?” Puruun asked. Just then, a human form came tumbling out of the Gate.
”Mom!” Karin screamed, rushing over. But then she stopped.
”Systemador, what is the meaning of this?! Mama Akari… she doesn’t look right! Her form is all wrong!” Puruun shouted.
”Explanations later, Minister! You, get the healers assembled immediately!” the Systemador barked. Karin clung to her mother, sobbing. “Mom! Mom!”
Several healers soon rushed to the scene and began administering emergency treatment to Mama Akari.
”For now, her life isn’t in immediate danger,” the Systemador said, his face tight with tension.
”‘For now’ isn’t an answer! What on earth does this mean?!” Puruun demanded, grabbing the Systemador by his collar. Lady Beyond stepped in to restrain her. “PurPur, calm down,” Lady Beyond said quietly.
Puruun exhaled. She was right; losing her composure wouldn’t solve anything.
”What we know right now is that immediately after Ms. Akari entered the Gate, the mana levels around the exit point dropped sharply. We realized we couldn’t maintain her physical reconstruction, so we used the reverse induction device on her tag to pull her back and eject her here. However… it’s possible there is permanent tissue loss or missing parts of her body. We need to move her to a major hospital immediately,” the Systemador explained.
”What?! You can fix her, right? You can make her whole again?!” Puruun asked.
”We will do everything we possibly can,” the Systemador replied.
A stretcher was brought in, and since she was to be rushed to the hospital in the Imperial Capital via Flying Dragon³, Puruun decided to have Karin and Ms. Sharlin accompany her.
”So… what do we do about the Princess? And the Spirit Clan?” Ms. Claudel asked worriedly. Karua-san, however, insisted that she still wanted to go through. For the Spirit Clan, the ambient mana levels didn’t affect them as much. As long as the Gate functioned, they could cross. The Systemador confirmed that the only abnormality was the mana concentration; the Gate and the tags were working perfectly.
”But we can’t make this call ourselves. Mr. Systemador, can we get a magical communication line to the Royal Palace from here?” Puruun asked. She needed to hear the Queen’s opinion.
* * *
”No… Puru, is Mama Akari safe?” Queen Asuka asked through the device.
”Yes. Her life is not in danger. But we don’t yet know the extent of her injuries. Karin is with her now,” Puruun replied.
”I see… first Mr. Yuuta, and now Mama Akari. Am I cursed?” the Queen asked.
”It was just a freak accident. Now, Your Majesty, what about the Princess? Given the situation, should we have her return?” Puruun asked.
”Shushu arrived safely, didn’t she? If we try to bring her back now… is there any danger?” the Queen asked. Puruun let the Systemador handle the technical explanation.
”Your Majesty, this is the Systemador. We’ve inspected the equipment and confirmed there are no mechanical issues. However, since we don’t know the cause of the mana failure, I cannot say with absolute certainty that the Princess’s return would be one hundred percent safe,” he said.
”I see. Then even if we bring her back, identifying the cause must come first,” the Queen decided.
”Understood. Your Majesty, there is one more Spirit Clan member here who insists he is fine and wants to cross over. How should we handle him?” the Systemador asked.
”That… is a difficult judgment for me to make. Even if I contact Chieftain Fedelate, it will take some time,” the Queen replied.
As they spoke, a commotion broke out behind them. It seemed Zau-san had returned, having grown suspicious when the others didn’t follow. As Puruun told the Queen and prepared to return to the Gate Room, Ms. Claudel came running over.
”Ms. Puruun! Zau-san came back, but he says the Spirit Clan won’t have issues with the transfer! He wants to go back through again with Karua-san!” Ms. Claudel shouted.
”What?!” Puruun exclaimed.
Puruun rushed back to the Gate Room, where Zau-san of the Spirit Clan addressed her. “[I understand the situation, Ms. Puruun. You were speaking with Queen Asuka, right? What did she say?]” Zau-san asked.
”She said the Princess won’t be brought back until the cause of the failure is found. As for your status, she said it would take time to get a hold of the Chieftain,” Puruun explained.
Zau-san and Karua-san looked at each other and nodded. “[Then there is no problem. Karua and I will go through and explain the situation to the Princess,]” Zau-san said.
”But isn’t it dangerous?” Puruun asked.
”[There is no need to worry. Even if something happens, we accept it as our own responsibility. Administrative Officer Utari here will serve as our witness,]” Zau-san replied.
Mr. Utari nodded in agreement.
”I see… well then, please explain the situation to Princess Shushu Dwarf Engineer Ria and the others on the other side,” Puruun said.

Summary:
During a cross-world Gate transfer, Zau-san and Princess Shushu Ria pass through safely, but a sudden mana drop causes a catastrophic failure for Mama Akari. She is subjected to an ‘Emergency Ejection,’ resulting in severe, potentially permanent physical trauma. While she survives, the group is left in a state of shock and must coordinate with Queen Asuka to manage the aftermath.
—
Trivia:
- The Spirit Clan is mostly immune to the mana fluctuations causing the Gate failure.
- Saran, who the Princess is meeting, hasn’t seen Shushu in five years.
- The accident was triggered by a rapid drop in mana at the exit point, not a machine failure.
- Reverse induction was used to pull Akari back into their world.
- Shushu is currently stranded on the other side until the cause is found

Character Insight:
Akari’s motherly nature is highlighted even in moments of fear, as she uses her own ‘nerves’ as an excuse to hold Shushu’s hand and comfort her. Her physical trauma at the end marks a dark shift in the series’ tone.
