Chapter 95 The 9th Floor Area Guardian and the Impact
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The morning of Day 41 of my life as a Tester. 9th Floor. Sanada Yakumo.
I cleared the rubble choking off half the entrance to the stairs and prepared to head down… or I tried to, until Rock got stuck. The stairwell wasn’t exactly built for comfort, and Rock – who was nearly one-and-a-half times my width in his full suit of plate armor – wasn’t going anywhere.
He stood there looking absolutely devastated, a comical picture of utter defeat. I let out a wry smile and told him to return to his Magic Sealing Crystal¹ state. He looked struck by the idea, as if the solution had been staring him in the face the whole time. He lumbered over to Sayaka’s side and shrunk back into his crystal form. Sayaka picked him up, meticulously wiped him down with a cloth she kept just for him, and handed him to me.
I gave her a look that said she was spoiling him way too much, but she just pressed a finger to her lips and offered a playful, silent giggle. “Good grief,” I muttered, slipping the crystal into my pocket as we followed Saizou down into the depths.
By the time we hit the bottom, the torches along the walls were already flickering to life. Saizou was already ahead, melting into the shadows to scout the perimeter. The room was massive – a stone chamber nearly fifty meters square, dwarfing any Guardian or trap room we’d seen before. At the far end sat a daunting black gate. In the center stood a single monster: a Hobgoblin variant clad in iron plate armor, clutching a heavy tower shield and a longsword.
Behind this Goblin General stood two Wizards; in front of him, a vanguard of eight standard sword-wielding goblins. It was a beefed-up version of the 8th-floor party, swapping the archers for pure magical firepower.
”Rock, front and center!” I shouted, summoning him back.
A flash of black light brought Rock back into the fray just as the Goblin General let out a blood-curdling war cry.
”Gyuooooh!” the General roared.
”Fireball! Fireball! Fireball!” I shouted, letting fly a volley of flames.
I launched the fire at the eight charging grunts and started barking orders. “Sayaka, Water Wall at full power! Snipe the Wizards with Ice Arrows from the flanks! Rock, pin that General down! Sheena, link up with Rock and break him! Saizou, you’re on maneuver duty – pick off the stragglers! I’ll handle anything that leaks through!”
”Understood! Water Wall! Ice Arrow!” Sayaka cried out.
”A rapier is the perfect tool for a man in full plate,” Sheena added with a sharp glint in her eyes. “Rock, let’s move.”
Rock let out a low, resonant rumble of agreement. Vonn!
Magic surged as Sayaka’s defenses rose and Rock charged the General like a runaway freight train. Sheena was a blur behind him. Meanwhile, Saizou was already a ghost, sprinting along the wall and blending into the darkness to hunt the goblins I’d scattered with my opening blast.
The Goblin Wizards retaliated, two spheres of flame shrieking toward Rock. I intercepted them mid-air with my own Fire Bullets. As the fireballs detonated in a twin burst of orange, two of Sayaka’s ice arrows whistled through the smoke, piercing the Wizards squarely in their chests.
Rock slammed into the General, shields clashing with a bone-shaking thud. Sparks from the overhead explosions rained down on his helm, but he didn’t flinch. The General held his ground, but then Sayaka’s follow-up Ice Arrow slammed into his visor. It didn’t kill him, but the frost instantly coated the iron, blinding him.
Sheena didn’t miss a beat. She lunged from the side, her rapier finding the unarmored gap at the back of the General’s knee. His leg buckled, and as he hit the floor, four surviving grunts tried to rush my position.
One didn’t even make it three steps before a knife sprouted from his spine. Saizou was working fast. I drew my machete, ducking under a jagged blade and disemboweling the next goblin with a clean horizontal arc.
”Wind Cutter!” I yelled.
I caught another one trying to skirt the Water Wall, severing its leg at the hip. Sayaka finished it with a quick dagger thrust. The final goblin turned to look at its leader, only to see Sheena’s rapier buried in the General’s throat and Rock’s spear through its gut.
The grunt tried to make one last desperate charge at me, but Saizou appeared behind it like a bad dream. He drove a poisoned blade into the back of its neck. The goblin collapsed, eyes wide with shock, as Saizou looked down at his kin with utter disdain. He wiped his blade, gave me a sharp bow, and went to finish off the wounded.
”Reliable as always,” I muttered, watching him work.
Once the room was clear and the Magic Stones were gathered – the General only yielded an E+ rank – I turned to the treasure chest by the black gate. Inside was a green tome.
”Wind magic? Looks like some kind of orb,” I said.
On the cover were geometric patterns and a picture of a distorted ball hitting something and bursting.
”That’s an Impact² tome,” Sheena noted. “It’s a beginner spell, but highly prized by vanguard fighters who use shields.”
”Impact… so a kinetic shockwave. If I can trigger it through the shield, it’s basically a Shield Bash.” I grinned. “Alright, let’s learn it.”
”A wise choice, Danna-sama³,” Sheena said with a smile. “At this rate, I won’t even be able to keep up with you.”
I just shrugged. Sheena was still terrifyingly fast – a whirlwind of three-dimensional attacks that I could barely track during our mock battles. That rabbit’s jumping power was nothing short of insane.
I opened the book, and it crumbled into embers of knowledge as the information flooded my mind. The spell was simple: a short-range burst of compressed air. It was useless at a distance but devastating in a clinch. I tested it on Rock, telling him to strike my small shield.
The moment his spear hit, I yelled, “Impact!”
The spear was violently deflected upward, leaving Rock completely off-balance.
”Wafuh!?” Rock huffed in surprise.
”Yeah, if I time the angle right, this is a game-changer,” I said.
The Mana Capacity⁴ consumption was efficient – about the same as a Fire Bullet. We spent a bit of time practicing; I used it to parry Rock’s thrusts and even tried it as a point-blank palm strike to his armored chest. It didn’t hurt him through the plate, but it sent him stumbling back every time. Perfect for creating openings.
We eventually moved through the black gate, finding a straight brick corridor. No teleportation circle, just like the 5th floor.
”Dungeons in my world were just endless stairs,” Sheena remarked. “This place feels experimental.”
”It’s a Test Dungeon,” I reminded her. “The Queen is probably trying to see what lures humans in most effectively.”
After fifteen minutes of walking, we hit a massive copper door, five meters high. Carved into the metal was a terrifying image: a goblin far bulkier than the General, wielding a massive greatsword.
”A Goblin King,” Sheena whispered. “D-Rank. It has high stats, but its real danger is its leadership – it can buff its kin. It’s much stronger than its rank suggests.”
”Sounds like fun,” I said. “Maybe I’ll take the lead this time.”
But first, we needed to prep. My mana was low, my stomach was empty, and honestly, the adrenaline was turning into a restless heat below the belt. If we were going into a boss fight, I wanted to be focused and satisfied.
”Let’s break for lunch first,” I said.
”Such composure before the battle with the King. Truly, you are my Master,” Sheena teased.
I didn’t mention that I was just struggling to keep my hands off them. I just gave her a smirk. I rolled out the carpet, gave Rock his drinks and Saizou his sweets, and we ate. Then, taking advantage of the safe zone, I stripped Sayaka and Sheena naked. We spent the next two hours in a heated tangle, making sure I was perfectly refreshed before we opened that final door.

Summary:
Yakumo and his party descend to the 9th floor, defeating a Goblin General and his magic-wielding guards. Yakumo learns the ‘Impact’ spell from a found magic tome, which provides a kinetic shockwave for close-quarters combat. After a long trek, they encounter the massive copper door of the Goblin King and decide to take a ‘refreshment’ break before the boss fight.
—
Trivia:
- Rock is too wide for standard dungeon stairs in his armored form.
- Sayaka is noted for being particularly nurturing/doting toward the summons.
- Saizou views other goblins/monsters as trash, showing no kinship despite being a summon.
- The ‘Impact’ magic is noted as being specifically effective when used through a shield.
- This dungeon is explicitly referred to as a ‘Test Dungeon’ managed by a ‘Queen’
—
Character Insight:
Yakumo’s tactical leadership continues to develop as he coordinates his varied subordinates effectively. His pragmatism extends to the ‘safe zone’ mechanics, where he prioritizes mental and physical relief (libido) as a form of combat preparation. Sheena’s knowledge of the Goblin King suggests her background world had significantly dangerous dungeon hierarchies.
—
Behind the Scenes:
The ‘Gabiin’ expression used by Rock is a classic Japanese 80s/90s manga trope for shock or disappointment, emphasizing the lighthearted chemistry within the party despite the dark dungeon setting.
