Chapter 75 Tenkouin Reika and Samidare Satsuki ⑥

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 Where is this?

When I came to, we were in a room I didn’t recognize. The room was made of stone, with very few light sources and quite dim. My hands were tied behind my back, and I was laid out face up. Even when I tried to move, I was firmly fixed to something; I couldn’t move an inch. Before that, I had a neck collar on, so I couldn’t even see my own body.

 …A neck collar?

I glanced upward. A massive block of iron was waiting right above my head, ready to sever my neck at any moment. In other words, it was-

 A guillotine.

”…!? Eh, why? Eh!? Why am I in this situation…!?”

I have no idea what’s going on. Why am I restrained in this execution device? I shouldn’t have done anything wrong.

No, it wasn’t just me. When I looked around as far as my neck would allow, Tenkouin-san, Torimaki-san, and Nigotori-san were all similarly restrained on guillotine platforms.

Why? If I recall, we… Tenkouin-san lost the match and became the property of a man named Sieben. But he said he didn’t want us as Servitude¹. Then we were being entertained, and while we were in the middle of one of the evening dinners with Tenkouin-san and Sieben-san, the room was covered in white smoke, and then…

My memory from there is hazy.

I think Sieben-san said something. If I remember correctly-

’This might be your last meal, so you should savor it slowly.’

That’s right. I remember now. He said that. With a truly gruesome smile on his face.

 ”Everyone, wake up! Hurry!”

I shout at the top of my lungs to somehow wake everyone. Whether that was the reason or not, I don’t know, but everyone opened their eyes.

”Nn… what is it now… what is this!?”

”Why am I in such a state!? Someone! Release me! Sieben-dono!”

 ”Kuh, I can’t move…”

They panic upon seeing their own situation.

 ”More importantly, look up!”

 ”Up… wait!?”

 ”Is this… a guillotine?”

”What is the meaning of this!? Someone explain!”

”Even if you ask that, I don’t know! Why!? Are we going to die!?”

”No, nooo! Help, someone, help meee!”

Seeing the situation we were placed in, everyone, including myself, started making a fuss. It’s only natural. There’s no way anyone could remain calm in such a situation.

”Oh my, it seems you’ve finally woken up.”

In the midst of it all, a man’s voice suddenly spoke. Turning toward the voice, there stood the man wearing a mask and smiling fearlessly, Sieben-san.

* * *

They say three women together make a racket, but it wasn’t anything so mild. Once they confirmed it was me, Tenkouin and the others started screaming their heads off.

”Sieben-dono! Just what is the meaning of this!? Were you not going to enter into a marriage with us!?”

Tenkouin glares at me. She was originally a sharp-featured beauty, so being glared at like that almost makes me want to flinch, but unfortunately for them, they are the ones restrained; there is nothing to fear.

”Now then, I don’t recall ever saying such a thing even once.”

”What are you saying!? Surely at that time…”

”Why are you taking a metaphorical story so seriously? To misunderstand on your own, aren’t you an idiot.”

At my words, Tenkouin let out an “Ah!” as if she just remembered. As usual, interpreting things to her own advantage and holding onto hope on her own. Looking at it from the side, it was the height of absurdity.

 ”Then why…”

”Well, before I give you that answer, there are some people I want you to meet.”

I open the door and invite in the people who were waiting in front of the room. Tatei and Yokoo, and the female dealer. Seeing the three of them, the girls’ eyes widened.

”Manabu… you were in a place like this? Hey, ask that person to release me. We’re childhood friends, aren’t we?”

Torimaki pleads with Yokoo. Even so, it’s ‘me’ instead of ‘us’, huh. It seems the true colors come out when one falls into an extreme situation, but to think she’d try to save only herself.

”…I have no obligation to help someone who not only fed me leftovers but also tried to extort money from me.”

However, Yokoo speaks coldly while looking down at Torimaki.

Apparently, these two were close enough that she used to prepare bentos for Yokoo until middle school, but after she met Tenkouin, they gradually became distant, and on top of that, she started demanding money for bento expenses. Moreover, those bentos were beyond lazy and could be called leftovers, and she would say “My cooking is worth paying for” while forcibly stripping him of his money.

Since then, Yokoo became unable to touch handmade food and ended up living on nothing but junk food. In addition, he developed a binge-eating disorder and ended up with his current physique.

Just how terrible was the food she served to make handmade cooking a trauma?

 ”Kozo-kun…”

”I also have no intention of helping. Especially not a scoundrel who acts like they can be trusted just to spike someone with laxatives.~degozaru”

Tatei and Nigotori also have a bad history.

Tatei’s family runs an old martial arts dojo, and apparently Nigotori’s family also ran a dojo, so the two were friends, or rather, rivals.

In the midst of that, a plan to build a large store near where Tatei’s dojo was located came up, and the surrounding houses were forcibly evicted like land sharking, but Tatei’s house apparently wouldn’t budge even an inch. Since things wouldn’t progress this way, it seems the developer, Tenkouin, and the Tatei house decided to have a kendo match with the land rights at stake. At that time, Tatei was chosen, and the opponent was that Hidaka Keiji. Yes, one of the Sugita group who bullied me relentlessly.

And, the Nigotori house was supporting the Tatei house closely, but in truth, they had already been bought off. The one who gave Tatei a sports drink spiked with laxatives while pretending to cheer before the match was Nigotori Maki, her.

Naturally, the result was a crushing defeat. Furthermore, he suffered the disgrace of messing himself. Since then, Tatei suffered from an eating disorder. Although he has recovered to some extent now, back then his weight was barely 40kg.

Initially, I intended to just throw Torimaki and Nigotori away after stealing their unique skills, but after hearing this from the two of them, my mind changed. There’s no need to let these people live.

Well, since neither Tatei nor Yokoo would be able to do it themselves, I’ll be the one to do it.

Now then, for the remaining one.

”You, the dealer from that time…~desuwaね…”

”That’s right. So, do you still not realize who I am?”

”Who… is this not our first time meeting?”

The dealer lets out a sigh, “Haah.”

”To think you wouldn’t know who I am just because I was wearing sunglasses… or was I only a person of that level to you?”

The dealer takes off her sunglasses. Her true identity is the Northern European beauty, Himezaki-san. Tenkouin didn’t seem to know who it was for a moment, but then she opened her mouth as if she just remembered.

”…Himezaki-san, is it? You were here as well?”

”…What, so you do remember. That’s right. Though, I teleported to Greedia.”

Himezaki-san stares at Tenkouin with eyes full of anger.

This is something I heard from Himezaki-san, but on that day she transferred in, Tenkouin came to her asking to be friends. At that time, it had already been revealed that she was on good terms with us, and Tenkouin intended to use money to win Himezaki-san over and further neglect us.

But Himezaki-san flatly refused, saying “Don’t think you can do anything with money.”

However, that must have touched a nerve with Tenkouin, because they bullied Himezaki-san relentlessly. Tearing her textbooks, throwing away her bento. There were even times when her gym clothes were shredded.

Even so, she was apparently able to endure because we were there, but her heart broke after thatr**apeincident.

Actually, the one who sent Sugita and the others might have been Tenkouin.

Since then, it seems Himezaki-san has become a clean-freak regarding s*xual matters.

Setting aside that thing on New Year’s.

At any rate, there are four people Himezaki-san hates to death. Three are the guys from the Sugita group, and the remaining one is Tenkouin. Even Himezaki-san, who doesn’t have very good feelings toward my Vengeance, seems to feel differently about Sugita and the others and Tenkouin, and I recall her saying she would willingly cooperate.

”Himezaki-san, I apologize for the previous matters, so could you perhaps mediate with Sieben-dono to release us?”

Tenkouin was unexpectedly stupid, wasn’t she. There are people who can study but are still idiots. Exactly that. Himezaki-san let out a sigh of exasperation at Tenkouin’s way of speaking,

”There is no need for an apology. I have absolutely no intention of forgiving you.”

She was completely unapproachable. Certainly, after having such things done to her, there’s no way she could forgive. If someone could still forgive after that, that person is either a saint or an incredibly naive fool.

”Besides, there are people who hate you even more than I or Tate-Yoko do.”

Saying that, Himezaki-san looks toward me. Tatei and Yokoo do as well.

”Sieben-dono does? What does that mean…”

Tenkouin and the others look toward me wonderingly.

It seems they still don’t understand. Losing track of a true identity just by wearing a mask is a staple in manga and anime, but it’s surprising how people actually don’t notice. Well, since she didn’t know it was Himezaki-san just because of sunglasses, it might be unavoidable.

When I took off the mask, Tenkouin and the others’ eyes widened and they gasped.

 ”Eh, why…”

 ”I, I heard that you died…”

 ”No way…”

 ”Sasaki…-kun… you were, alive? “

I’m relieved that they hadn’t forgotten my face. If I were told “Who?” I would have been a bit depressed.

”In short, that’s how it is. Everything up until now was a farce. All for the sake of getting Vengeance on you. Especially you, Samidare.”

 I glare at Samidare.

Even though I saved her from the bullying from Tenkouin and the others, to return a favor with enmity. I’m not saying she should have saved me when I was being bullied by Sugita and the others, but I never thought she would side with Tenkouin, the very person who was bullying her.

”W-wait! That was only because Tenkouin-san said she would bully me if I didn’t… that’s why I had no choice! I really didn’t want to do something like that!”

 ”Samidare!? What are you saying!?”

”What? It’s the truth! Right, Sasaki-kun? I only did those things because I was threatened by Tenkouin-san. So I’m not at all to blame; the bad ones are Tenkouin-san and the others. Believe me!”

”Hmm, I see… For someone who had no choice, you sure seemed to enjoy bullying me.”

”T-that’s not true! Why would you say such a cruel thing!?”

”So, ‘what’s the truth? Speak honestly.’”

”It was fun! Watching Sasaki-kun writhe in pain, it was so much fun… eh!?”

Ah, as I thought. It was the right move to make her Servitude. I’m glad I could hear her true feelings. Now I can get my Vengeance without hesitation.

”Wait, no, that was wrong just now.”

 ”It’s not wrong.”

”That’s why I’m saying it’s wrong! Listen to me!”

”There’s no value in listening to your words. Not to the words of someone who only makes excuses without even an apology.”

 ”…Ah.”

What, she only just noticed now? Even though until just now she was shifting responsibility like crazy and saying things like she wasn’t at fault. How could I forgive her? I can’t forgive her even more than Akiyama and the others. To be honest, just killing her won’t satisfy me. That’s why.

 ”Don’t want to die?”

 ”Of course I don’t!~desuwa!”

 ”As if I’d want to!”

”I don’t want to die in a place like this!”

”I’m not at all to blame… so help me.”

I feel irritation toward Samidare, who still hasn’t reflected and continues to blame others. I’m driven by an impulse to drop the blade on Samidare’s neck right now, but I endure it.

”Is that so. Then let’s play a game. If you win, I’ll let you live.”

Now, let a new game begin.

 —

 Trivia:

 - The girls think they are there for marriage until the reveal.

 - Yokoo’s eating disorder and trauma were directly caused by Torimaki’s ‘leftover’ bentos and extortion.

 - Tatei’s family lost their dojo because Nigotori Maki poisoned him with laxatives during a high-stakes match.

 - Himezaki was severeley bullied and potentially assaulted due to Tenkouin’s instigation.

 - Samidare’s confession of ‘fun’ was forced by her status as Sasaki’s property/servant

 —

 Character Insight:

Sasaki’s coldness has reached a peak; he is no longer just seeking death but a psychological breaking of his enemies. Samidare is revealed to be the most treacherous, lacking even the ‘noble’ arrogance of Tenkouin.
