Chapter 133 Magic Items for the Field
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Night. Day 46 of the “Tester Life.” My Room. Sanada Yakumo.
”Phew. That hit the spot,” I muttered.
I stepped out of the bath inside the Magic Tent we’d pitched on this deserted island. Glancing toward the beach, I saw Lucy trading blows with Saizou, her oversized knife flashing in the moonlight. I ducked back into the living room of My Room.
I slung my Magic Pouch over my shoulder, grabbed a beer from the fridge, and headed for the Service Room, popping the tab as I went. I flicked on the lights, settled into a chair, and took a long, cold pull of beer before booting up the Magic Crystal¹.
”First things first: the payout,” I said to the empty room.
I set my beer aside and began unloading Magic Stones from my pouch onto the plinth. I tapped [Magic Stone Exchange].
[Total Exchange:]
* 122 E+ Rank Magic Stones
* 30 E Rank Magic Stones
[Total DP Earned: 79,200 DP]
I’d actually slaughtered more Orcs and Green Wolves than that, but a fair chunk of their stones had gone into fueling Sanada Karen’s magic gun. Costs of doing business, I suppose. Next, I liquidated the twenty silver coins I’d scavenged. They traded in for a neat 10,000 DP. My hunch was right – silver was worth exactly 500 DP a pop.
Between the stones and the cash, I’d raked in about 90,000 DP, bringing my total balance to a comfortable 1.37 million.
”Not a bad haul. The bronze chest drop rate is hovering around fifty percent, but this floor is still a goldmine. Now… let’s see about this scrap of paper.”
I pulled out the event item – a ragged piece of parchment – and set it on the plinth. I tapped [Item Appraisal]. The screen flickered to life.
===
[Name: Transit Pass (Fragment)]
Collect seven pieces to trigger the appearance of a Checkpoint.
===
”A checkpoint?” I asked.
So the paper scraps were just parts of a travel permit. Those random characters I saw earlier, ‘Ma’ and ‘Sei,’ must have been part of the word ‘Pass.’ And if I get seven, a checkpoint appears?
What is this, the hunt for the Dragon Balls?
The “Queen” who designed this dungeon definitely spent as much time reading manga as she did playing video games.
”She’s just toying with us at this point… but what actually happens when the checkpoint shows up?”
In the real world, checkpoints were border controls – territorial markers used to catch spies or squeeze travelers for tolls. At least, that’s what I remembered from those Sengoku-era manga. If one was going to appear on a dungeon road, it stood to reason that passing through it would trigger a floor transition.
Wait – do field-type dungeons not have Guardians? No, that seemed too easy. You can’t just collect some paper and walk to the next floor. That’s too soft. It made much more sense to assume the Guardian was stationed at the checkpoint.
Either way, I needed seven pieces. I’d cleared four settlements and walked away with two fragments. If my luck held, I could probably finish the set by tomorrow – assuming there were more encampments every three kilometers.
”Well, no use dwelling on it. I’ll find out when I get there,” I said.
To get there, however, I needed to gear up for long-term survival. The Magic Tent was sturdy enough, but it wasn’t invincible. If an Orc pack decided to use it as a punching bag, it would eventually give out. I had no idea what happened to the people inside when a tent collapsed, and I wasn’t exactly eager to find out.
I planned to have Rock, Saizou, and Lucy pulling sentry duty outside, but I couldn’t expect them to fight through the night indefinitely. I needed to bolster our perimeter with magic.
”I know I saw a section for this…”
I scrolled through the [Various Items] tab in the Shop until I hit the magic item cluster. There it was: Magic Pouches, Storage Rings, tents, Bracelets of Power, and Anklets of Swiftness. Nestled among the high-end gear were the camping supplies.
I looked for the specific items Sheena-san had mentioned while I was soaking in the tub.
”Found ’em. Warding Incense, Barrier Stones, and the Bells of Vigilance. She said this was the ‘Safe Sleeper’ starter pack.”
The [Warding Incense] (30,000 DP) worked by channeling mana into it, releasing a ‘holy’ scent that monsters find repellant. The refills lasted 24 hours but cost 5,000 DP each. The catch? It only worked on C-Rank monsters and below. Orcs were E+, so it would handle them easily, but the price tag stung.
There was a cheaper version called [Warding Grass], but it capped out at E-Rank. At 2,000 DP for only three hours of protection, the math didn’t add up. The incense was the better investment.
The [Barrier Stones] (100,000 DP) came in a set of four. You set them up to create a perimeter. The smaller the area, the stronger the wall. Sheena-san claimed a tight perimeter could hold off a B-Rank monster for five minutes. I could stack multiple sets for a layered defense, but for now, one set would have to do. 100k was no joke.
The [Bells of Vigilance] (20,000 DP) were a pair of resonated bells. If one detected a disturbance – like a barrier being struck – the other would ring in sync. If I kept the receiver inside the tent, I’d have an early warning system the second things went south.
I saw some other cool stuff, like [Auto-Turret Mana Ballistas], but they were 50,000 DP a unit. I’d need four to cover every angle. 200k for some turrets felt like overkill when I had three powerful summons.
Total damage: 155,000 DP. It was a hit to the wallet, but you can’t put a price on not getting eaten in your sleep. Besides, this floor style wasn’t changing anytime soon. It was a necessary cost.
”Alright, let’s buy… wait. [Portable Magic Crystal]? Was that always there?”
I paused before hitting the buy button. At the bottom of the list was an item I swear I’d never seen before. My heart skipped a beat as I tapped for details.
===
[Name: Portable Magic Crystal]
A mobile interface providing access to [Shop] and [Appraisal] functions.
* Note: [Slave Purchase] is disabled.*
* Note: [Wall-Butt²] services are available only if the user is within a room with walls of sufficient structural integrity.*
===
”Yes!” I cheered.
This was a game-changer. I could use the Wall-Butt service while we were out in the field!
The “structural integrity” requirement was a non-issue as long as I was inside the Magic Tent. This meant we could stay out for weeks if we had to. If Ichinose Sayaka and the girls couldn’t keep up with me, I could just call in Freya and the professionals to handle the overflow.
”Urgh… 100,000 DP…” I winced at the price, but the justification came fast. “No, this is essential. I can buy fresh groceries on the fly. Sayaka-san will be thrilled.”
I could even replace broken gear in the middle of a dungeon. Besides, I could make 100k back in a single day of hunting. I tapped the purchase button for the whole lot before I could talk myself out of it.
A series of items materialized on the plinth: a small white box, two bells, a silver incense burner, a conical blue stone, and a black crystal accompanied by its own miniature plinth.
I opened the white box – four Barrier Stones. The blue cone was clearly the incense; I’d have to ask Sheena-san exactly how to prime it with mana later.
Then there was the crystal.
It was much smaller than the one in My Room – about ten centimeters across, roughly the size of a softball. The plinth was scaled down too. I channeled a bit of mana into it, and a tablet-sized holographic display shimmered into life above the stone.

The menu was stripped down to [Shop] and [Appraisal]. Tapping the shop showed me the usual lists of food and gear. The [Slave Purchase] tab was there, and while I could browse the catalog, the “Buy” button was grayed out. However, the [Slave Management] screen was fully functional. I tapped [Wall-Butt Succubus], and all the familiar service tiers appeared, ready for booking.
”Perfect. Everything works,” I muttered.
I closed the display, pointedly ignoring the fact that my balance had dipped to 1.03 million DP.
Who cared? I could call a Wall-Butt girl to the middle of a monster-infested forest now. I wouldn’t even have to deal with Mia being in a bad mood when I got back from the expedition.
”Dinner should be ready soon.”
The sound of laughter and chatter wafted in from the living room. I’d been in here longer than I realized. I stashed the Barrier Stones and my new portable crystal into my Magic Pouch. Best to get out there before they came looking for me.

Summary:
Yakumo returns to his private room after a bath to manage his dungeon earnings. He identifies a new event item as a ‘Transit Pass’ fragment and realizes he needs seven to progress. To prepare for overnight camping on the field floor, he purchases expensive defensive magic items and a portable crystal interface.
—
Trivia:
- Yakumo is already on Day 46 of the dungeon test.
- Silver coins are worth exactly 500 DP each.
- The ‘Queen’ is hinted to be a fan of Earth’s pop culture (Dragon Ball).
- Orcs are ranked E+, while the Warding Incense works up to C-Rank.
- The portable crystal allows Wall-Butt services but NOT new slave purchases
—
Character Insight:
Yakumo displays his usual mix of pragmatic survivalism and ‘degenerate’ luxury. He is willing to spend 155,000 DP on safety, but the real highlight for him is spending 100,000 DP on the ability to summon succubus services while in the field, justifying it as ‘essential’ for morale.
—
Behind the Scenes:
The ‘Wall-Butt’ (Kabeshiri) trope is a common adult niche in Japanese media involving characters stuck in or through walls.
